The episode 8 performance was EPIC! Loved Bocchi's solo. And the Yamcha cameo in episode 9 of course! 😆

the 8th episode performance is legendary, I love that they actually had the musicians play a worse version of the first song so you could actively hear everyone sounding off even tho it was clear they still KNEW how to play

MWS

Bocchi on the spot adlibbing an amazing intro to the next song was easily a top 5 anime moment of 2022 for me, this show really is perfect

FTN Chicken

Fun fact: Hitori literally translates to “one person” while her sister’s name: Futari literally translates to “two people”

Raziel_BBT

About not having male characters, I don't actually know why, but I have a guess. I think it's a joke about how in many shounens most of the characters used to be only male. So they did the opposite here

Mango

3 EPISODES??? Thank you very much 👏 Also was very exited for episode 8.

Noctis

virus bocchi was one of the most hilarious things from the show that literally had me laughing out loud i had to pause for a solid 5 minutes

Decaf

Yamcha meme will last forever

I think one of the strenght but also the weakness of bocchi is that it references a lot of anime so sometimes even if a scene is funny in its own way it's too bad that people miss some stuff. an exemple is like in episode 8 when bocchi is in all blue at the isakaya its a bigand beautifull reference to the end of a anime/manga called ashita no joe. It's a typical box shonen where the young will climb the world of boxing (of course it's simple in the premise but the writing especially of jo is really good). In the last arc Joe fight the world champions jose. Basicly the fight was supposed to be over quick but joe managed to impress and enrage jose, even tho he's pushed back and hit again and again he manage to put on a huge show for all his friends and rivals watching the match and knock down the champion multiple times the fight is basicly a big emotionnal shonen moment that give you a lot of chills. Finally the match go 15 round and so the winner is decided by points. When the referee finally enter the ring to give the name of the victor: Jose, The referee raise the arm of the champions as a symbol of victory but after taking so many of joe powerful punched he can't stand or look straight and his hair became white he look more like the vanquished than the victor. Joe's coach go to confort joe who is sitting in his corner of the ring but joe doesn't answer he stays stil and the whole crowd stand up looking at joe in silence waiting for him to do something. The silence is broken by Joe's voiceover "i burned my fire, until there was nothing left. All that's left is pure white ash" and then a hauntingly beautifull blues guitar start playing with a beautifull wistle "singing" along as we see Joe in all dark white and blueish tone sitting in his corner head down resting on his chest a smile on his chest. And that is the last page of the manga and the last frame of the anime, the finality of joe's climb, the end of joe's story and that scene is damn epic beautifull frustrating and sad at the same time. And so here you are years latter watching a slice of life anime of highschool girl playing in a rock band and you see those exact code of tha last page on bocchi comparing joe's fight to death with bochi first concert out of her cardboard box and that's is really really funny. I mean some one even says "no that the wrong show bocchi".

JGaffney90

I had to laugh when Bocchi cut off Ange's monlogue with her opening solo, and the 5 second speedrun story arc he went through when Nijika was just getting some fresh air.

About not having any main male characters: Bocchi the Rock! is part of a sub-genre of the slice-of-life genre that western fans call “Cute Girls Doing Cute Things”. Its a pretty common trope of these shows to not have any male main characters.

peetskeet

Have you guys ever seen whiplash? Think it’d be a great reaction for a drummer if you guys haven’t. Or even kids on the slope, granted those have more jazzy songs.

KaijinGarou

Ange's totally right. I thought drunken senpai was Bocchi's age at first too. Anime age is so difficult, man.

KaijinGarou

Wait you're summer people? Your my favorite reaction channel and my first Patreon but this reveal is too much for me to handle. Even after all these years. Sorry, as a winter person, I'm unsubscribing 😭😭😭

Gerry Octafrre

The soundtrack album is amazing. Not only as "anime song" but as actual j-rock music too. I actually put the entire album on my "main" playlist that I listen to everywhere like in the car when I'm driving around with other people. You know most people like to listen to anime music as guilty pleasure or something you don't want other people to know but I don't need to worry about those since the whole thing is just good rock music in general

Hey Bocchi’s got a father, and a good one at that. That’s better than 90% of anime out there already lol

GraffitiTurtle

ngl, I didn’t even notice there were hardly any male characters at first lol

KaijinGarou

I almost died with the Yamcha joke. The comedy is too good.

Lightweiss

sorry for the off the topic, but for the time that i sub to carlie & ange, the bocchi cover just hooked me ever single ep, i really would like to ask ange to cover the whole intro, the guitar tone is so accurate, pure awesome work!

stedeu

Carle's familiarity with Bocchi's childhood and Ange's familiarity with the band scene makes your channel seriously the best one to cover this awesome anime. Also, I think they do show male characters but it's specifically Bocchi's dad whose face they never show. If there's any manga readers out there who know why that is, please share.

stedeu

And wow, I think Ange's the first person to actually catch that they weren't playing well in their concert. How do you hear that?? That is impressive

FF at 15

Hi Carlie and Ange, are you guys planning on reacting to the OP and EDs when you finish the show? Perhaps some of the full songs as well? Idk how strict the copyright is with those. Either way I highly recommend checking out the full album in your spare time! Thanks for the content!

Lmao what? It’s incredibly noticeable especially towards the end. I’m not even a musician and I recognized that. I know other reactors have too, you must not have watched any

CornCobBob
>>116113318

I didn't know. It's easy to catch once you know what the song is supposed to sound like or when someone points it out, but yeah I didn't catch it at first myself.

stedeu
>>116113318

that's cool. I definitely couldn't tell and of half a dozen reactors I've seen, I didn't see anyone catch it. But it's cool that you did.

Steve.

I hope you guys react to the EDs after you finish, there are 3, and each is sung by a different girl from the band!

Ecodude

Bocchi is a "Kirara series", that's why lol. The series published in Manga Time Kirara magazines are 4-komas focused on cute girls doing cute things (like K-ON) so the main cast and supporting characters are all girls.

JustGab

Would be awesome for them to watch Her Blue Sky as well if they're looking for a movie and music anime

NanoPIX

Any idea of which anime will replace Bocchi after next week?

Alderanex

So much so in fact that it topped the actual Japanese album charts in late 2022 early 2023, from Billboard to Oricon, and got certified gold by the RIAJ. Which would be great for any band let alone a „virtual“ band out of an anime. Needless to say it‘s in my regular rotation too, and available everywhere, including lyrics videos on yt. And the two new songs from spring, released on EP, are great too (Into the Light, Blue Spring and Western Sky).

AnakoX10

You missed many anime references. They have a lot and music references

piqs

Thanks for the reaction! it enjoyed watching you two enjoying Bocchi. I lol'ed at the Kanto > Pokemon! remark. I learned about Kanto from Pokemon too! but after looking it up it turns out a real region name in Japan where Tokyo is located. Same with Ange, I'm also impressed with the detail that they have a special "worse" version of the first song in ep 8. Not only the instruments are mismatched, but you can hear a slight nervousness in Kita's singing, so they rerecorded that part too.

Maximillian S.

I actually live near the station that Starry is at, its a real place (albeit with a different name). Something that's really cool that most English-speaking viewers don't get (understandably so) is that the locations in this show are dead accurate to real life. Some of the background shots of Shimo-kitazawa are so accurate I could go to them in real life. Especially in episode 9 when they go to Enoshima, its basically a 1:1 recreation of the Enoshima experience. Those stairs are really no joke. But the funny bit is they actually barely went past the first flight of stairs. The escalators are right at the beginning lol. Knowing that adds to the humor of the situation. Also the recurring theme of having a band unite them is a big pun with their band name. Kessoku band means ziptie (which is why there's a ziptie on their t-shirt), but kessoku on its own means unity. Kessoku (unity) + band = Zip tie. or Unity band.

Manoi

there's a lot, LOTS of reference in Bocchi the Rock. I suggest maybe checkout the complication of BTR references video

Watch Clannad. The mother and daughter look the same age.
