aubrey !!

uh oh the reactions to this one will be tough..

beannieswife

oh no….. a moment of silence for this one😔

RoZiiii

My condolences :(

Night Sterling

The pain never ends 😭 For real though they did a wonderful send off for Nanami, he got a lot more compared to the manga.

FTN Chicken

Ngl, i was definitely dreading this moment all season

Ferdz

I’m sorry for your loss. He’s in a better place now🕊️

iice woy

The time has come.

ThaDoubleB

I’m really interested to see how the anime is received at the end of this season and after next season.

Joie Dianzon 🇵🇭

It hurts, doesn’t it? Our Nanamin. 💔 Most anime viewers couldn’t react properly after that scene too. They were quiet the whole time so it’s understandable. They cannot enjoy the whole episode and Yuji’s VA said this is a very special episode for him. 😔

𝑳𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒊 ♤

I didn't expect mahito to fight yuji and nobara simultaneously cuz he split himself in two. God I'm so nervous for next episode. I gotta say, personally this was one of my favourite episodes of the entire show. There's literally no one in this manga with plot armor according to manga readers no matter how much potential they have as characters and it took me until this episode for that fact to sink in. Rip nanami my favorite anime daddy

RunAwayCloak

Nanami would get absoluty beat probably one shotted even if Nanami was full health 3 of them struggle to fight dagon who is so much weaker then Mahito

le

Nanami had to go because he was the one Yuji cared for most here outside of maybe Megumi. Unfortunately out of the two, Megumi had the most left in his character. Nanami’s scene also showed that as long as he was alive he would keep fighting and he would never have gotten that rest. It showed where Nanami could have turned around and sought out that life but kept going to save others (seeking out megumi Maki etc ). His whole character is no matter what he will always return to be a sorcerer even if it causes him endless pain - he will just never rest. It made sense in that respect to choose nanami to go but it destroyed me and I’m so upset. It sucks, but that’s the way the author wanted to go to torment Yuji and build hatred for Mahito even more so that was the choice

aubrey !!

rip to the goat... all he wanted to do was save some kids and help others. he was truely selfless.

Silver

Why Nanami? To break Yuji's soul piece by piece

Keith

nanami was yuji's mentor, narratively it is a fantastic choice to choose him. His sacrificial nature led him to go and find megumi and see if he was ok, he fought those transfigured humans to put them down. All so yuji can see the death of this man who couldnt be selfish. This is a death that hurts but one that really cements this story as one of the greats

SoySauce

Guess who's in Malaysia

RunAwayCloak

And the reason that they killed Nanami is because mahito wants to make yuji fell pain and break him down mentally. Mahito is a human curse of fear and hatred.

Night Sterling

This is just my headcanon but Nanami smiling in his hallucination is cause he knows he wont have to deal with gojo anymore 😂

Mateo Villa

The scene with Nobara is happening simultaneously to the fight with Yuji. Remember Mahito split himself up into two bodies during that flashback with Jogo and the others. One body is fighting Yuji and the other is fighting Nobara

Kat

I had Nanami’s death spoiled for me back when watching season 1 but I had no idea how it went down. And it did just feel disrespectful the way he was taken out. Just so brutal and upsetting. And Carlie and Ange don’t apologize for your reactions, very understandable. I felt very similar 😭

Ferdz

Nanami was in overtime during the Shibuya incident btw. It's his self-binding vow. By limiting his cursed energy in normal working hours (10-6), he receives increased cursed energy after working hours. And Shibuya Incident arc starts at 7pm

Keith
>>122929459

also gege is notorious for not letting you breath with death. A lot of ppl hate him for that reason. I personally think its a great choice because in a story like this you cant sit and mourn, you have to kill these curses because they wont take a pause. These characters have to watch their friends die and then just move on and we get to feel what they feel. It makes it a lot more heartbreaking when you reflect on it though it makes you feel weird in the moment. All that to say all feelings towards the story is valid. I love gege's work and this is one of my favorite stories i have ever experienced and i hope that you can see it the same way after sitting back and thinking about it.

LuciusArtoriusCastus

Nanami was also Gege Akutamis favorite character, and he killed him off just like that 😭 u can’t have favorites in jjk cuz no one is safe, not even the authors favorite

LuciusArtoriusCastus
>>122929459

I actually love how Gege kills off characters. It’s the right mix of anger and sadness, mixed with realness because in a situation like that irl, u don’t have time to mourn, u just gotta keep going and fight.

Mango

In jjk main/side/npc characters are not safe :,)

Night Sterling

And in regards to where the manga is in relation to where the anime is at the moment this is around chapter 120-130 ish of the manga and the latest chapter is 242 and still going.

Martina

don't worry guys, he's in Malasya reading his books! delusion is the only way to stay happy in the jjk fandom. 😭 as sad and shocking this scene was for you, I'm glad it wasn't spoiled for you! but now I'm worried what other scene HAS been spoiled EDIT: okay wrote this before listening to the whole discussion haha. damn what kind of sick person spoiled this for you, knowing Nanami was your favorite. now I only hope other scenes haven't been spoiled. but I'll tell you, I've known for a long time this was about to happen and it still hurt so much oh and also. Mahito hate club reporting for duty!

Ygjez

Fun fact the author gege favourite character is Nanami apparently. I understand why he wrote this part of the anime like this because how chaotic Shibuya is and there isn’t much room/time for yuji to grieve nanamis death.

Night Sterling
>>122929979

He's just saving his favorite character from having to deal with his least favorite one anymore 😂

Uchiha With Some Gas

i’m surprised that this was what u we’re spoiled, because at that time when u said that u were, there was huge spoiler attacks, by no life idiots, about another scene, if u call so

sav

I heard that gege was shocked when nanami died and he was his favorite character too. And everyone’s like “ bro didn’t you write this?😭😭”

KawasakiGPZ

Regarding the purpose of killing off Nanami, Gege(creator of jjk) basically just likes to fuck with people

Alhoss

When you watch it back Mahito splits in two one goes to the surface and the other stayed underground, even the times you can see that Mahito is fighting both Yuji and Nobara at the same time

Hasy Arco

I was one of the manga readers who knew this was going to happen but even after seeing this live in anime I still got so upset. Nanami is a special character for me too. So you guys don’t need to apologize for your reaction! A lot of us feel the same way.

Felix
>>122929656

We dont know that. Only the fact that he did split into two doesnt tell us anything about when these two encounters happen. Because Mahito was mentioning that he still has a trumpcard at the end of the Yuji fight-scene rather tends to make us believe that he already might have Nobaras corps.

Martina
>>122930531

yeah he said "he got carried away" like??? Gege, when I catch you, Gege

beannieswife

in my opinion, your reactions to the episode are extremely valid, when i read this chapter in the manga i literally had to take like a month break cause it was TRAUMATIZING, he was so fucking tired all the time but still decided to fight and protect others, the author even said that nanami wanted to get married but couldn't while being a sorcerer since there was always a possibility that he won't make it back home, SICKENING. nanami was gege's favorite character, if he did this to his fave well, expect no mercy for anyone else on the show lol💀

Martina
>>122930742

I mean we can meme, but there is definitely meaning behind killing off Nanami: - traumatize Yuuji - symbolize "passing on the mantle" to the younger generation - criticism of a society where good and honest people (Nanami) die where selfish and corrupt people (spoiler for next episodes) get to live out their dreams

Martina
>>122929459

I honestly think Nanami got a good sendoff, unlike some other characters, Gegeee

KawasakiGPZ
>>122930742

Oh yeah absolutely i was just saying that its Gege style im a manga reader and every time new chapter comes out im like "Oh Man whos gonna Die this time"

Night Sterling
>>122930531

I wanna know what he's on and where i can get some 😂 the man seems to be having the time of his life if i'm being honest

Raden

Mahito made my top 5 most hated characters list, my guy just wanted to go to Malaysia 😭😭😭

Izaya

Thank god this bastard died already. Couldn't stand the random fanboysm over him. He did his overtime alright, overtime on the show... Good riddance. now shit gets good. and contrary from what you may think this was the most enjoyable JJK reaction to watch from you two. I was eagerly waiting to all reactors faces when the moment came when Mahito exploded that overrated bum. Thats why i watch reactions.... I liked Nanami in the magna but then all anime onlys started to fawn over him and lick his balls for no rational or understandable reason and it made me start hating the character just because of the his fanclub. Same with Gojo. From here on out i have my fun in this arc. ANd for salty Nanami stans in the comments, dont even mind a salty reply, i waited for this moment for years and now im gonna enjoy it to the fullest

Maya Coleman
>>122932465

Your a piece of shit and you are just jealous that there were no fan boys who were fanboying over you

poisonivybag

Nanami's death, and the death of all the civilians before this, really hammers in the message that the Shibuya incident is ruthless and utter chaos. I also want to point out what an incredible job Yuuji's VA is doing like his screams last episode, his shaky voice calling for Nanami etc. You can hear him breaking. He's just a 15-year-old boy who has lost 2 mentor figures, his friends are in danger and his body was used to kill thousands.

Marcus

Nanami's death was spoiled for me too because naricistic assholes on Youtube, put a youtube "short" where the thumbnail said RIP and then a picture of Nanami. (This was months before this episode happened) Unfortunately people can spoil all they like for views and Youtube doesn't give a shit so I'm being exceptionally careful when browsing now.

MWS

What would be left for Nanami in the story? He’s at the point where his strength doesn’t make much of a difference anymore, he was a mentor to Yuji who values life, he had a prevailing arc with mahito and His character arc was complete

Valde

Are people forgetting that Mahito split? I’m pretty sure the Nobara scene is happening while Yuji is fighting the other half of Mahito.

Martina
>>122932952

I also got spoiled some stuff from YT thumbnails, reported to YT but they don't care.

DRACO

This reaction is what i want to see! Very authentic.👌

YellowboyRickLee

In the OP, there's actually a shot of Nanami's lower-half body, I'm sure they snuck it in there just to f-with us

Carlie & Ange
>>122933102

Yeah carlie actually mentioned this and my dumbass must have cut it out of the edit in the discussion 😬

Valde
>>122933102

Oh right. I hope that means Mahito’s strength is also split in half. Makes me less nervous for Nobara 😮‍💨

Shroomy

Ange your cover of “specialz” is probably the best thing i’ve ever heard

Maxine

"the return of nanami" "we'll check in to see how nanami's doing" and the edited laughs.....oh i knew this would not be an easy ep for yall 😭 and mahito being an s-tier troll does NOT help anyone's emotional state this ep hehe

Danny C

Was absolutely dreading this episode from you guys. The death aside, seeing Ange sad and angry actually hurt more. No time to mourn

Danny C

Quick clarification, Mahito vs Nobara is happening at the same time as Yuji vs Mahito. That scene with the rest of the curses showed us that he split into 2 and ran off

Yokimbo

I also knew nanami was gonna die because it was literally the first search hit when I put Nanamis name in to google some time ago lol. I appreciate the raw salt in small dose :D

Aaron Mitchell

Your bitterness is understandable, and fact about gege akutami the author he known for not being afraid AT ALL for killing beloved characters in all of his works no matter who they are, so understandable. Also really sorry you got spoiled Carlie😔😔

Moody
>>122930512

Please don’t hint at spoilers, especially on Patreon

Luke Elrod

Let's give some credit tho. Look at the emotional reaction this media has been able to create. JJK is meant to reflect the more brutal aspects of reality. The unfairness of sudden loss, the idea of hopelessness, with characters that refuse to give up and grow. As much as I too hate to lose an amazing character this is still an amazing piece of art.

joyzki

I 100% agree. I think they did his death beautifully, but they really needed to end the episode on that, or Yuji witnessing it and flipping out. I cant believe it was directed like this tbh...

alexis ♡︎

idk know if this is true (so someone correct me if i’m wrong) but i think haibara lost his bottom half when he died … nanamin really was his other half 😔 i’m so sorry for the pun i had to 😭💔

Swoobmeister

Mahito is obviously mvp, what did Nanami do in this episode to deserve mvp?

Tae Kellz

I mean i felt like the scene was beautiful but it didn't affect me very much. Nanami was a beast but i didnt care for him much myslef. Kinda to monotone for my taste in characters but i see why people may like him. Ive cried and got emotional in a bunch of anime but that scene just didnt fully do it for me. I love the risk of killing off characters. Also, it seemed clear to me that he wasn't at full strength after taking the attack from Jogo so he was probably using his last bit of strength to continue to fight.

Raul Velazquez

Whenever ruined the death for you Carlie is a POS, I hope you blocked them at least.

Unholy

I had to pause the episode for a long few minutes and let the tears out..

Coils J

This was what the apologies were for in the beginning of the season

Ty
>>122932465

You such a lame bruh hating on Nanami cuz other love him your just salty asl you couldn’t enjoy his character like everyone else did if you think Nanami is a bum then idk what to tell you but one thing is for sure he’s one the best written characters in the show so cope

floatin_g

Nobara ran into Mahito's body double, from that scene that showed Mahito splitting into 2

Jakai

Nobura was not at a different time than yuji. They point of showing the jogo scene was to show that mahito made a clone of himself. She’s currently fighting a clone of mahito at the same time as yuji who is fighting the real one.

Vanessa
>>122932465

I mean you can hate whoever, but being jealous of fictional characters spells DEEP ISSUES to me. Hope that the void in your heart can one day be filled by irl people, because Nanami's death won't solve your problems lol.

Ginta Liepiņa

I think your reaction was very fitting for this episode. I was feeling very similar. Mourning Nanami, feeling hopeless about the whole situation, feeling sorry for Itadori and scared for Nobara. I kind of felt similar after watching the Red Wedding episode in Game of Thrones. After that episode I stopped rooting for/having favorite characters and just watched it without getting too invested in the fate of the characters. Just enjoyed it for what it was. Might have to do the same here :D

joyzki
>>122938368

Fair point, my bad, would've been weird to jump here straight after Sukuna destroys Shibuya. Something just felt different about the way they handled this. When Junpei died, the fight after didnt feel off. Nanami dying is 10x times more sad, the fight is supposed to be super intense and emotional, and they decide to play the jazzy OST? Idk man, maybe I'm being too harsh. The voice actors killed it aswell, deffo not that.

Toasted Toad

Was dreading this episode for the two of you. The more invested you became in Nanami the more this was on my mind. No getting around it, it’s a tragic moment.

StackCanary

As you touched upon, the writers did a good job if they made you care that much for a character. Who else have you had this reaction to dying? I personally "liked" they way it was done, it just showed the hopelessness for the situation. The guy survived Dagon, Jogo, and in the end it was too much. This arc has just been an onslaught where nobody is safe.

Ariadne

It's okay I'm with you guys, I also think it's not proper to kill off Nanami at this time, I mean even for the whole story. It's just a too light and meaningless way to kill a such important character. I have to say I appreciate the writer's creativity and character building for the most of this story, but I still really did think Nanami's death here is too lightly spoken. The animation staff made it very beautiful with the beach scenes, but the main problem still lies that this plot didn't give the audience any more than simply tragical fact. A well-built character like Nanami deserves more writings and thinkings on him, and a marvelous scene with overwhelming effects on stories afterwards when it comes to his death.

Khalayx

Nanami wasn't a favorite character for me (don't hate plz), but I agree that something about the execution of this didn't quite work. I think the issue is that the season did him dirty multiple times over. First he killed creepy sword guy - except then that got taken back. Then he was killed by Jogo - except that got taken back. And without much explanation. Now he's been killed again, right at the start of the episode? We should have gotten to spend a little bit more time with him after Dagon/Jogo but before his death. Bringing him back from the dead just to quickly kill him off again a few minutes of screentime later was not very satisfying imo. All that said, I do think they're doing a good job building Mahito into a peak anime villain. But even there - it takes a little of the tension out of this fight with Yuji, because it feels like neither of those characters can die yet.

Noctis

naw i most likely would have cried harder if i didnt knew he was dead in the manga... i dont have favorite characters that arnt the MC alot and him being the few that are makes this shit suck even more, nobara is my 2nd... then yuji... whats happening in shibuya guys

Josh Knoebel
>>122932952

I've had every major anime spoiled by tiktok and YouTube short advertisements. Even if I skip as soon as I realize what it is, it's too late. Like, I can't hate on people wanting to discuss their favorite Manga, but it really really sucks knowing how a thriller like AoT ends. Same with what's coming in Demonslayer, Haikyuu, MHA pre season 6... just sucks.

V D

"I'm pissed off and I can't get over it" is how I feel for this entire franchise starting from this point

Nguyen Anh Quan

Gege is honestly a bad writer. JJk's deaths are more "shock factor" and just leave you with a bad aftertaste.

Decaf

I never get swayed by spoilers. Even with screenshots and evidence, it could've been photoshopped or just some character's imagination so I don't believe it until I see it myself. It's just something I learned when I watched 'The Usual Suspects' and 'The Sixth Sense' when I was a kid.

GildedGrimoire

I don't feel like Gege wrote Nanamin's death to be enjoyed, I feel like we're supposed to be unsatisfied and to feel what Yuji is feeling in that moment which is extreme hatred for Mahito.

JadonTheEternal

It's really horrible how much sadder they made Nanami's death with all those cuts to the beach, but they also made it quite a bit less gruesome compared to the manga, which is crazy because it was already so sad. Also, idk why they changed it but they made Mahito get Nanami from behind, in the manga it wasn't from behind.

JadonTheEternal

Itadori and Nobara are fighting the different copies of Mahito, and it's around the same time btw

Mekhi

The JJK Red Wedding 💔

Dune

Damn it really sucks someone spoiled that for you. Manga readers get way too excited and love to ruin the fun for everyone. That aside I think this is a fitting death for nanami in this moment because it was less about nanami and more about mahito. He's a true villain with no care for human life or even the life of a curse. Plus he knows how much the death of junpei affected yuji so killing nanami in that way in front of him was the optimal way for him to throw yuji off his game. It does suck that we lost such a beloved character. Plus we still don't know how inumaki, maki, naobito, panda, and that one guy with panda are doing. So yeah the only people I could see realistically coming to help nobara are panda and his partner otherwise there's a good chance she dies.

Anton

Where is re zero? Cancelled?

le
>>122932465

The fact you paid money just to wait for this moment is so fucking lame 😭

Tempered Glasses

Honestly it almost felt like Mahito, in spite of his wicked nature of pure evil, had a tiny bit of mercy by killing Nanami instead of transfiguring him and keeping him alive in perpetual pain. Or maybe Nanami was already too damaged to "use" for his purposes.

MADHOUSE

I don't know how Nanami's death was done in the manga, but I agree with you two, Mappa did us dirty by killing him off at the start. Others also say that they didn't really care for the Yuji vs Mahito fight because they were so shocked prior to the fight. I DO, however, appreciate that the author let him go out with parting words to Yuji. He even managed to stop himself from cursing Haibara (remember how Yuta accidentally cursed Rika in JJK 0). Nanami was a legendary character that will never be forgotten. This episode was full of L's for the JJ Sorcerers and big W for Mahito, that patch-face dickhead. P.S. I mean this in a good way, but I'm glad you two are so upset about Nanami and angry at Mahito. It shows just how much you two are invested in the story and the characters. I do feel bad that Carlie got spoiled. Always happens to me, and it pisses me off every time. It's crazy that the character death just had to be the fan-favorite. Now, let's hope Nobara can make it out alive

Noirium

Gege (The Mangaka's) favorite character was actually Nanami. Gege said that they aren't afraid to sacrifice characters for the vision of their story, which I find very respectable. If Mahito wasn't redeemable before he definitely isn't now, and I believe that is the point of this. To get you to hate him more.

Noctis
>>122976049

junpei was all my reason to hate mahito it just gets worse and worse

Joie Dianzon 🇵🇭
>>122959391

THIS! If not for the redeeming qualities of some legendary characters, the whole story is just average. I don’t know, maybe I am just upset. 😑

Rae

As someone who knew the manga going into this arc, I knew that this was coming and that you guys would be veeeery upset when we got here. RIP to the GOAT. Nanami was one of my favorites too. He deserved better.

Cayseron
>>122929656

isnt the fact he split in the two "the trump card" as in even if the half that fights yuji loses and yuji kills that half, other half gets to live (which is really such a cheap copout but seeing how mahito is a child in terms of curse age it makes perfect sense that he would do something so cheap :D)

Cayseron
>>122930531

he originally planned to make nanami lose an arm but instead went and fully killed him off. original idea was not where his writers inspiration lead him in the end so even he was surprised with final product. yes it is troll to say it but also not really a lie

Cayseron
>>122932465

i dont think i ever seen more insecure and jealous post. "i liked the character but then everyone started liking it so now i feel miserable every time i see it and i am glad its dead." trully as miserable as the souls get. id take pity if not for the malice behind the post P.S. i feel like i found who spoiled Carlie about Nanami

Carlie & Ange
>>122972881

Nah eps 4 and 5 are on their way. The full lengths are around 24 hours away and the edited ones should closely follow

Aizensalami

Nanami :( He went out like a hero. Even after being burnt and exhausted, he kept fighting. I think it was suiting to be him, not only to trigger Yuuji off, but also to trigger all the viewers because everyone loved him. Mahito is probably more evil than Sukuna in some people's mind now XD. That fight/Beach sequence was ELITE!

Keith
>>122959391

Every single death has purpose, if you think they just exist for shock factor you are bad at media literacy

Алта

No waayyyyy Carlie was spoiled on nanami😣 I’m so sorry

The Great Santini
>>122933063

AND we got to see him have his badass moments in this arc. I agree I don't see what was left on the table in Ange's eyes.

The Great Santini
>>122959391

As if character deaths are the only thing that factors into being a good writer lol. Get over yourself.

Michalovesanime

This show treats most people the same. How many people did we see die similarly or worse deaths, why would Nanami get special treatment? And I appreciate how Nanami, especially considering what's happening, died in the first half of the episode ( purely from a story telling and theme perspective, his death hurt) and we were forced, like Yuji, to continue to go and have no time to grieve. I mean Haibara was an important character to our faves and we didnt even see him die. We barely saw him in general. Still he had such an impact on the story. Nanami was special but Nanami was just a human. I appreciate how this show really plays with expectations, theyve done it a lot in the openings ( showing a version of the story that would feel more comforting but ripping it out of our hands in the show). I wish Nanami wasn't dead but I appreciate how the show does its thing.

Nguyen Anh Quan
>>122959391

No? That's not the only thing bad about gege's writing. Lots of useless plot points that is abandoned, lots of wasted character's potential,... Writing unsatisfied death is just one of it. Gege's write JJK to have cool fight, let's not act like the story is anything special. Maybe you should get over yourself instead.

Ghoullie

no i actually agree with Ange on that, for me it also felt kind of weird to immediately go into a fight. Or really, following up with a fight scene that was framed to be more "epic" after Nanami. Like, its a little tonally dissonant for me to hear crescending sad piano music, followed up by a more beat heavy action track When I read that scene (no worries, no spoilers) vs. watching that scene, I realized that because you read panel by panel, ANY panel can have the sensation of being "the end of the episode". I cried so hard I dry-heaved and I couldn't continue for days. So when I finally did, I felt I had time to grieve and then be ready for what came next. Bc of run time I guess? We just didn't get that time

Ghoullie
>>123932606

extra note: I LIKE how jjk, specifically Gege, makes you feel the mortality of the characters and that any danger is real danger, BUT I don't think the argument of realism holds a lot of water on its own. Creators have to make the scenarios feel "real" but they also need to play the role of psychologist to see how their work will be understood

Healthy Truth

Best reaction of all time, true nanamin supporters. Ange killed it,also if carlie wasnt spoiled then this reaction wouldve went beyond, a perfect reaction to send off the great legend himself. Imo i feel some how he'll come full circle too

KaijinGarou

I don't think it was the author's fault. I didn't read the manga so I could just be wrong but I bet the timing was better there, like Nanami's death happened at the end of a volume and gave it more time to breathe or something and it was Mappa who got to that part at the middle of an episode and went "you know what, throw that fight in immediately after, we still have half an episode left to go". First time in anime history we could actually have used a little of filler xD. Plot-wise it makes sense that Yuji was raring to go after Mahito after watching that but I agree the timing wasn't great. Although I felt like Yuji could have done more about it TBH. He just let that happen in front of him after all he'd just watched before. Nanami was probably done for regardless once Mahito had put a hand on his back but Yuji didn't even try to stop him just in case and stood there listening to them chatting, when we know how fast he is. Ultimately it likely wouldn't have mattered but I'd have liked to at least see him try. They're being even more disrespectful to Maki though. If Nanami barely made it after Yogo, I'm 99% sure she's already dead and they didn't even show her to us...
