The acting of the two leads is just amazing. They played their characters to PERFECTION. Whoever did the casting knew what they were doing! Nam Koongmin is known for his eye acting, he doesn't need to say a word! His eyes tell it all. Ahn Eunjin is known for bringing her characters to life! Like she will carry you into her story and make you feel what she feels

I don't know if you guys feel it or not, but Namgoong Min's acting tone, pronunciation, and vocalization are really amazing. I'm not trying to make a comparison, but honestly Namgoong Min actually relieves the frustration that was built up towards Crown lol

this was such a significant episode to the real history of what happened to the women in Ganghwa Island. There was no real reason for Gilchae and her group to go to the island, but the story had to be told through her eyes.

I must say that the two friends, Eun ae and Gilchae complement eo very well. Eun ae reads her really well. She noticed very quick on the boat that her friend wasn't okay. Gilchae runs on two modes; Survival and safe mode. Survival mode kicks in when the intruders are around and brings out her best qualities, she takes charge, strategizes very quick and saves everybody, making sure no one is left behind. Safe mode is when she was back in Neuggunri, before the war, this is bright, cheeky, mischievous, not-the-best reputation Gilchae who sleeps in, and snores very loudly. Safe mode now only kicks in when Seobangnim, Janghyun is around! You might think that she is reverting to her old self, but not really. When the Man, Janghyun is around, she feels secure and does not automatically go into survival mode. Survival is good, but she cannot function on it long term. She wasn't meant to. In survival mode, she needs Janghyun around to do the saving. In safe mode, she needs Eun ae around to guide her and telll her where her heart is.

the decision Gilchae made to save Jong Jong, and the decision of the women in Ganghwa island were all made cause the king and the higher ups refused to do their jobs, and make the decision on time to save the people. While they were stalling waiting to see what the enemy would do, the people who had no choice but to survive were left to their own means. Every single action by Gilchae is so intentional, cause the writer was trying to bring out how dire the situation was and how the king was more interested in saving his own life. This drama is a major social commentary on Joseon's idealist culture(Confucian, I think). That's why the 1st episode begins with the kids in school reciting some ideals....also remember Janghyun refused to sit the exam once he learnt what the topic was. That was very intentional cause he was not about that life.
