I shed some tears watching this one. There’s a difference between dramas that stage manufactured, performative moments to make audiences cry or boost views, and dramas that offer a realistic, authentic look at life in its beauty and ugliness, its joys and sorrows. Most dramas fall into the first category, trauma-dumping for shock value, which can be entertaining for the short run. Very few feel genuine and leave an emotionally lasting impact and imprint on you. The ones that come to mind are this drama, WLGYT, Misaeng, Mother, Lost (the K-drama, NOT the US show), and My Liberation Notes. They are heavy, but they never feel exaggerated purely for impact.
