Progress Report - Week of April 21, 2024 (Patreon)

Hello, all! Normally, I would release this on a Sunday, but I'm going to be busy with my wedding reception, so I'm going to go ahead and get it out of the way today. This was a fairly productive work week, and the new video is coming along nicely. It probably won't be done by the end of the month, but only because I have so much wedding-related stuff to do. Second or third week of May is looking strong for a release date, assuming I can keep up this pace.

VIDEO RELEASED: "The 'Problem' With Problematic Media: You Are (Probably) Not a Bad Person" released on Sunday and has been very well received! It's gotten almost fifty thousand views since release, which is typical for a video that isn't attached to a majorly popular show like Bluelock or Mushoku Tensei. I've spent around four hours of working time this week reading and responding to comments, and they've been overwhelmingly positive. I was worried about this one, since it's (by definition) a pretty sensitive subject, but people seem to enjoy calm and measured takes on important issues, so I'm happy to provide. Hope you all enjoyed this one. It couldn't have happened without you!

ANIME CLUB: We had a very productive anime club discussion about Oshi no Ko. It was our most-attended discussion so far, peaking at around 55 concurrent viewers, so thank you to everybody who showed up! The discussion was close to two hours and forty-five minutes long, with some leftover time for making the thumbnail and such. All the time spent watching Oshi no Ko is wrapped up in last week's progress report.

NEW VIDEO: Starting last week, I started rewatching Solo Leveling for the new video, and Monday was the first day this week that I spent working on the script. It was basically done on Tuesday and officially finished on Wednesday. After looking over the script on Wednesday and making some final revisions, I got straight to recording and editing the audio. It took longer than usual to record, since I'm including a song in this video, but I got all of the audio recorded and edited in one day, which is new for me. After taking a brief break to get married on Thursday, I dove straight into video editing on Friday. And. . . I wasted six hours of working time on an ambitious project that wound up going nowhere. What I have of that project was posted on Patreon earlier today as a little bonus to you guys, but even though it turned out really well, it's not something I can justify spending that much time and effort on. I decided to work for a while on my (typical) day off to make up for lost time, and after four and a half hours of editing, I'm around two minutes into a twenty-one minute video. Editing is going more slowly than usual due to me using more pictures from the show, itself, instead of just taking pictures from the enormous stockpile of pictures that I already have, but the video is turning out great. Can't wait for you to see it.

RESEARCH: Aside from two hours spent finishing my rewatch of Solo Leveling, we had our typical anime night on Friday to check out new stuff that might make for good videos (or that might just be good to watch). We watched two episodes of Kaiju No. 8, which I'm enjoying a lot. Two episodes of Astro Note, which is downright delightful. And four episodes of Bartender: Glass of God, which is. . . okay. I don't think we saw anything that I'm going to make a video about, but it's always good to be informed of what's going on in the anime sphere, so I always see it as worthwhile to carve out this weekly little patch of time to watch new things.

NEXT WEEK: Next week will likely be slow-going with little progress on the new video. I'm going to California to hang out with the in-laws and do my second wedding reception. Honestly, I probably won't have a chance to work on the new video at all, so I doubt I'll post a progress report. Just keeping you all up to date!

And I think that's it! Hope you all had a good week, and that you enjoyed my little extra post.
