In this week's episode, Hank read a response from a listener about the conversation with Mayim regarding the tradition of female coverage in some religions. Aashini linked both the article above and this one, to help give us a broader perspective.

Thanks, Aashini!

Opinion | The Freedom of the Hijab

For someone who passionately studied and works for human rights and women's empowerment, I realized that working for these causes while wearing the hijab can only contribute to breaking the misconception that Muslim women lack the strength, passion and power to strive for their own rights.

Really glad someone addressed this. It was strange to realize how pervasive the idea that "hijab is inherently repressive" is in the west.

Thank you for posting this. It's important to follow up when you've missed something. Muslim Girl is a great resource for more insight.

Thank you! I actually just finished listening to this episode and was concerned about MB's commentary as someone who has taught and spoken a lot with young Muslims girls about their choices when it comes to covering. The idea that it must be a form of oppression "they" just haven't realized it yet because of their culture is false and hurtful.
