John - I have tomato-saving tips for your garden. We had a huge problem with deer our first year, and built this super easy fence that has saved them since! The fencing is made of http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=83923066 (altho we got plastic coated stuff, not just steel). Even though deer can jump 12 feet, they have to have a "safe" surface and the various stakes and whatnot we had for tomatoes must have made 6ft doable. We also installed a simple door. It took like an afternoon to put up with just 1 person. Protect those tomatoes! They're the best part of gardening! Oh, and your strawberries will be lost to birds. Not deer/squirrels. Sorry, dear.

And since you WILL have an overabundance because of my excellent advice, you should make a LOT of sauces. Pasta and pizza sauces. NOM. Ooo and grow some basil so you can have pesto too.

Is there such a thing as pickled tomatoes? Or too acidic?
