100% I had one of these in my house as a child and I COMPLETELY forgot about it until now.

Maria Jenkins

The irony of this is that apparently onions and potatoes, when they are stored close to each other, tend to make each other sprout.

Monroe

I would very much like a potato bin!

Kelly Semon

Does anyone know the episode # of the original potato bin question? I didn’t remember it at all and I feel I would have been equally flummoxed at the idea of potatoes on the kitchen counter (all in the light!! No!!)

Unrelated to potato bins, but related to the episode, I would love it if you guys would talk about your spiritual/belief/whatever you want to call it journeys. hearing people talk openly about something that is often kept private, and the process of changing as part of a full and healthy life is so helpful!

Growing up, we had a potato bin as well. I didn’t realize it wasn’t a thing everywhere. What about a bread box? Is that also something that everyone doesn’t have?

Nicole Zeig

Just as curious.. are all bread boxes the same size? If a bread box is small or large for its species, is it still bigger or smaller than a bread box?

Colin Ringle

I listened to Rhett and Link's journeys, and feel like I know them so much better now. I 100% agree with this, and would love it if you guys are comfortable sharing that with us! I understand that it is deeply personal, so I do understand if you'd rather not, but I believe this is something a very many of us would appreciate!

Unrelated to potato bins, but relevant to the episode; I only started using twitter so I could promote my own podcast (on the fence about a shameless plug... so here’s a not so shameless plug for Tales from the Waystone, a Kingkiller Chronicle Re-read podcast). I was nervous about wading into a cesspool of vitriolic garbage (my view of Twitter from the outside was quite negative three months ago). I’ve learned, however, that if you a: aggressively block or mute all political posts - even ones you agree with , and b: only follow other podcasts, the writing community (because your friends that are on twitter are indie authors), and Fire Emblem: Three Houses fan art, the experience is far from terrible. It also doesn’t feed me too many things that make me angry (viewing latest tweets instead of top tweets helps), and I get bored with the scroll pretty easily. All I’m saying is, there’s hope.

I bought one of these the other day after hearing this on the pod. Totally great investment

I want to add a small "maybe" next to the "Onions" sign

I live in St. Paul, MN and it's VERY COMMON for turn of the century kitchens to have built in potato drawers!! We have one and put our trash can in it.

Terrie Gilland

These were popular here in Ohio in the 80's when "country" decorating was big. They usually had "Taters 'n Onions" carved in the top.

Ashleigh Hanlon

This is a pretty standard item in most Australian kitchens. It keeps the koalas out. 🐨
