Confused Canadian here, I have never heard of a pocket book. My best guess would be a standard size mass-market style paperback as they sometimes fit in larger pockets, or maybe one of the Penguin Minis, I constantly see John's books in that format.

I was thinking the same thing (I live in the GTA) so I looked it up and at first I thought the question might have been referring to the e-reader brand but that's not even available in North America. The Wikipedia page for paperback books says that the term is synonymous with paperback in North America because of the Simon and Schuster label but I guess it's just one of those words that some people are familiar with and use on a day-to-day basis but others have never heard of 🤷

Latecomer here, but I'm also a Canadian, and I haven't seen pocket books in Canada or the US BUT I know in the Philippines, pocketbooks tend to be a format for some romance novels (where on the cover the couples are dramatically holding each other and their hair is blowing in the wind).
