The school I teach at in NY is also currently shut down because of staff illness and quarantines from Christmas break. It's a frustrating situation for us all. We're hopeful, with the new CDC guidelines, that this will be the last time we will have to fully go remote because of this situation, although the cost-benefit analysis of those guidelines is a little worrisome. I completely understand our families' frustrations and how difficult it is to keep kids learning at home, not to mention the other losses kids and families suffer with remote learning.

John, there is a book I think you will benefit from reading, on many levels. It is called Our Uncommon Heritage by Charles Perrings. (As part of my masters class, a select few students, including myself, [so much punctuation...] were invited to work on the book with him, one on one, right before he published it. He and his wife Ann Kinzig were the two people in my life that helped to shape me as an adult (I earned my MS at 24, am now 38.) I love you and your brother in the same way that I love them. I wish I could steal you four and create my family out of you and a dentist. And a chef. Here is a link to the book. I would send it to you signed, but I want to know that if I did, it would have meaning. Snuggled up in a bunch of John's faces.. John faces....
