Could this be the greatest performance unit performance we've seen?

It just might be.

HOLYLILI YABBAY Y'ALL THIS WAS GLORIOUS.

Seriously, I mean, I don't know how many times we've said a track/vid is our favourite SVT track or performance, period, but I really mean this when I say this is likely one of our favourite SVT performance unit choreos, and potentially of SVT choreos in general (specifically the clock thing).

And even more so because we went into this thinking that it won't be as serious. How does something that's called Lilili Yabbay be this beautiful?

Unbelievable.

Oh, not to mention, even the Hiphop team cover was top tier stuff.

We NEED to talk more about this.

So let's do so.

And for now, we ask you to share links for Trauma, the hiphop unit track :D

Okay. That's it.

Love <3

I really hope after reacting to the unit songs in this album you guys can react to seventeen on rolling stone!!! Or atleast the performance units section

Fay

Lmao they couldn’t be serious for most of it

Misz Nana

Lilili Yabbay is the turning point for the whole Performance Team Color for their upcoming songs 🥰🥰🥰

The LEGENDARY Performance Unit song, Lilili Yabbay woohoo! Looking forward to the time you're done with the unit tracks and finally get to check the Rolling Stone 'In My Room' version.

Yupz react to svt rolling stone

The Vernon struggling thing was bc he was under everyone else at the start and the others are heavier than him so he was kinda getting crushed by them (I'm also pretty sure he complained abt it at some point, jokingly ofc). And also bc from other angles you can see him really struggling doing the fast "windmill" thing in that one part which he was the one doing. I hope that made sense.

LILILI YABBAY!!! A classic performance team song that I knew you'd like. I love how each PFU member can show off their individual styles and also have moments where they dance as one. This song I feel is like a combination of all their creative souls. From Minghao's grace, Jun's AMAZING voice, Dino's charisma and Hoshi's power and precision, this is the one song and performance that proves that performance team isn't just the "dance" unit. They're the PERFORMANCE team. Also Han-C saying svt b-sides are so similar to what you produced before, omg are you Woozi's secret twin? 🤭 "Nothing tops this", but you haven't seen Moonwalker, IDUBILU and Spell yet 🤭🤭🤭 Lol about HHU's cover, my bad if I kind of misled you on the Vernon struggling part lol. Their performance was really supposed to be serious (and they did amazing!! Vernon's tone always gets me), but if you look closely it was chaotic. In the beginning, Mingyu raises his arms early which threw off the timing. And poor maknae Vernon, whose idea was it to put him at the *bottom* of the beginning choreo pile below all of his hyungs ??😭😭😭 He was also the one doing the fast spinny arm during the clock choreo. If you wanna check out those details and the HHU talking about it here are some short clips: - https://youtube.com/shorts/hH1zTo3mke0 - https://youtube.com/shorts/k2oopQskUmo Some past references to Lilili Yabbay that you also encountered in GoSe: - If you remember TTT 2019 (the camping one), they play a game guessing the song from Woozi playing the recorder. This song was one of those - In Going Company (1st ep of GoSe 2021), when the members were trolling Dino on not making content for him ("theres no 13th month so we cant do content for the 13th member"), Dino said something like "what about the dance of the 13th month huh???!"

I think Lilili Yabbay remains in the top 3 best performance unit songs no matter who you ask. Also, when D'some said "it sounds like a spell", just you wait for your reaction to 17 Is Right Here album, if you remember this comment I hope you have a good laugh about it. The song is so amazing, the performance is so good, everything is S-TIER. And honestly if Han-c loved this song and it reminded him of the stuff he made + how much he likes Change Up, I feel like he'll really really like Rain by the performance unit. Ways off still but I'm starting to understand the tastes in SVT B-sides you guys have and matching songs that will suit them. Also you mentioned something about the MV camerawork that I think can't be overstated. I just rewatched SVT's Blue Dragon Awards 2019 appearance (HIT+AJU NICE) and the camera did not work that day. It did not clock in. And it certainly affected the dynamic of the performance. Next we have TRAUMA!!! I think it's a really interesting song lyrically so hopefully you can listen to the lyrics well and learn some stuff about the members. I definitely agree that this was the strongest performance unit song so far, and like someone else mentioned I think it's the point where they start to hone in more on their sound as a unit. Not personally my favourite performance unit track, which just goes to show how strong their discography truly is! I love how many unit tracks we get from Seventeen compared to other groups, I feel like it helps them to have these niches where they can explore more diverse sounds/genres outside of the team's overall general sound (which is already fairly diverse). Add to that their solos and mixed units and their discography is truly incomparable and has something for everyone. Agree that the hip-hop team crushed that cover, their huskier tones made for a...different experience XD. You only have one other unit left from their 2021 Caratland unit reverses now! The performance unit covered a vocal unit song, other carats please feel free to add details if you know them but as far as I can tell it's an outside song the vocal unit worked on? Chocolate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgjsss-LyKo Performance Unit ver: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An8OOWIBip4 This might be nice to get to at the end of the album when you're watching additional performances/videos before moving on to the next album, since you've already watched the other unit reverses featuring songs from this album. There's also a recording behind and a dance practice behind that includes footage from all 3 units. Recording Behind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOA2jBRff5g&t=451s Dance Practice Behind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJOvy5lzyo8 Totally understand if you don't want to add that many videos to the list, just thought I'd suggest them here since 2/3 songs are from this album. If not they can be added to the forever list and revisited maybe when you have a chance to dive into Caratland!

Thunder Monkey

I love Seventeen and Handsome Sausages so much! Yeeehawww! 🤠

Thunder Monkey

We are all performance team whores on this one. No other group is as smooth as our boys! Like water. Yes, this performance they are like 4 Taemins!!!

Thunder Monkey

Hip hop team is good but they are so muscle-heavy and not like water. But they are good! My husband, coups, is the leader so I always prop him up. But come on, performance team #1! But i still love the hip hop unit so much too!

Thunder Monkey

Can't wait to see when you finally get to the Rolling Stone live!

Normal SJA

Lilili Yabbay is actually the era where Performance team finally getting the grasp of their unit sounds. After trying and experimenting few themes and style, this songs finally sets out what performance team do best - being SEXY! In Caratland Performance unit is often dubbed as slutteen. You gonna understand more in the future lol. No matter what genre they try after this, sexiness is the main concept which is so fun that it celebrates their 4 distinctive vocals.

This song is good. PU do remind me of swans!!! And I have also always wondered what does Lillily Yabby(?) mean? I cannot tell the correct name even now, hahah. 13월의 춤 is easier to remember, haha. Also, for HU, there is practice behind, they did practise with the performance team. And the issue was, Vernon found the members lying on him a bit uncomfy cuz they were more built than PU. The PU did show the right way to lie on each other, but I guess they were again misaligned during the performance. So Vernon kinda taps on Mingyu, and he thinks he has to start to dance, so even Coups starts to dance, but they were early. Hence, they were laughing later. Wonu had to sit up so he didnt do the mistake. Also, there is a zoom in on Vernon when they do that clock-like hands, you can see him struggle there haha. It's also funny how they're laughing during the cartwheel and all. (These shorts can help you understand it: https://youtube.com/shorts/k2oopQskUmo?si=G-xk-7hgutuksDbb https://youtube.com/shorts/hH1zTo3mke0?si=rUpUYYouZajEnp_r ) This song has another funny performance where Seungkwan substitutes Hao on the spot and is a bit lost. Still, he did well without practice, but that's more funny, haha. Below is Seungkwan's substitute performance. https://youtu.be/NfPv63Q-Ns4?si=doucw522taHCe4hW

Vernon was struggling because he was the one who did the fast hand of the clock, and he was fighting for his life to make it fast. It is funnier if you see some fancams of them secretly laughing during the performance. Also, I recommend to watch the Rolling Stone performance after your reaction to Trauma and Pinwheel. It will definitely change your perspective about performance unit.

Erika

I think this is one of the most striking performance unit's songs, both performance and music wise. It's their second evolution in a way, after Highlight. Like someone else said, they are not just the "dance line", they are performers that care a lot about their art. All four of them are credited for the choreo on this song and I think it shows each of their influences. PU is actually my favourite unit and there are other songs down the road that I prefer, but this one is so iconic that you can't leave it out when talking about them and their artistic journey.

Jessa

Oh and one thing, Trauma was written by the Hiphop unit members based on their personal struggles and fear. Mingyu sang the chorus part because he had a hard time writing the lyrics. He didn't fully grasp the concept Cheol wanted to portray and had no personal experience with trauma (his words) because he grew up in a loving environment. Also, Wonwoo was the one who sketched the box concept Scoups wanted and became the official teaser for Trauma.

finally THE Lilili Yabbay is here! yes, this is one of the PFU strongest/best performances & if you're already this amazed then wait til you hear THE Rolling Stone version! one thing about the Unit/Part Switches is that, they take it seriously by putting their own touch in it but you never know if their seriousness will be funny or actually serious. they definitely make sure tho to make sure you'll be either gagged, amazed or dumbfounded if you loved the clock choreo here wait til you get to one of their clock songs 24H. and if you feel like they're fairies or swans here, wait til you see Falling Flower for Trauma, we definitely shouldn't miss the MV: https://youtu.be/4tRsEUB6-bk?si=ptqQiaeolw4vpSXp mnet special: https://youtu.be/iqvkOFfTpLY?si=E62TNlinVlcJtiz2 2019 kbs song festival: https://youtu.be/6r2ebxB4NlM?si=rNeLX0NMzcifdE3- 2019 Ode To You Japan: https://youtu.be/-kw2AF4MTjg?si=ag5DuOLV9HnPw7bk i just wanna say that trauma is a song that tells about the story of their anxieties, struggles & personal experiences. a song that everyone can relate to til now. the mv has a lot of symbolisms & many have tried to write about it but i've always loved this genius article. hope you get to check it out as well - on your own or during the reaction for you to further know how the song came about https://genius.com/discussions/449082-Song-highlight-seventeen-trauma

Rolling stones live!!

drea

just leaving it here that i just subscribed for svt reactions and y'all are genuinely such a great reaction channel. you're actually interested, give great insights and y'all have great personalities too, keep up the good work!!

anayahss

thank you someone else sees the faeriescore in lili yabbay mv! i have been screaming about it for years! like others have said you HAVE to do the rolling stones video after you react to the songs from all units, specially for this song.

anayahss

also thinking if you have time (a LOT of it too, but no pressure) maybe you guys can react to old concert VODs for seventeen, correct me if I'm wrong but i think we've already done all the songs in the diamond edge setlist (minus the mixtape songs). Svt concerts are really some of the most fun concerts ever.

HISA

I’ve been waiting for this! I was wondering if there’d be any mention of the title, but did they say ‘Spell’? I wonder what it is? It’s been a mystery for years. I’m so excited that you’ll soon realise this track isn’t actually a DANCEPerformance song!! I really love their voices. I think this is a great album, especially as Pledis produced music videos for all three teams this time. In the second half, amidst all the buzz surrounding the hip-hop team, Vernon—who rarely speaks—is actually explaining the situation in an interview.

About the meaning of Lilili Yabbay, there is the thing that if you turn LILILI YABBAY upside down it looks like 171717 ㅅㅂㅌㅌㅂㅅ

T. A

The struggling part is actually from a behind the scenes story, when they all lay down on the floor at the beginning, they said that they ended up lying on each other's chest a few inches off than where they were supposed to be, so they basically couldnt breath well at the beginning as their chests were pressed down, thats the struggling story Vernon has told because he got the worse of it due to being at the bottom of the formation, hence the struggling part the carats might have mentioned. Also Caratland unit switch basically becomes a performance where each unit having fun with each other's song, and yes teasing and making fun of each other too, all in good fun, but at the same time they make you realise that they are all crazy talented and can do it all.

HISA

Thank you—that’s a really good article! ありがとう 凄く良い記事ですね!

Lulu

Lilili Yabbay with Seungkwan version please 😂😂😂

gigglyseal

i'm biased because teen, age is just one of my favourite era's in general (first comeback era for me) but this remains one of my favourite pfu tracks!! the choreo is so iconic... also i love how you mentioned nu'est! svt and nu'est w had a (sadly unreleased) collaboration song during the 2017 mama's called "heaven" and the sound gives me similar vibes XD would love for you to check it out as well! there's a (badly filmed lol) performance and a dance practice video!

PaperCrown

Also, when Carats say that SVT struggled with something performance/music-related, we are using an entirely different standard of measurement because SVT's skill level is so high. By any reasonable metric, this performance was awesome full stop. As you guys said, if you watch the video as is, the HHU performance is fantastic and if you saw it first and didn't know that it was a PFU song, then there'd be nothing to say about the HHU's powerful/heavier dance style since you'd never know that the song was meant to have an airy, graceful vibe (not that you can't also enjoy the heavier style anyway - I certainly do), but for Carats who watched the multi-cam version (aka, the main camera and multiple other screens which act like a fan cam for each member for virtual-only audiences), you can see Vernon suffering from being crushed by the other members laying on top of him, then you see them start a beat too early because Vernon and Coups tried to move Mingyu who mistook the gesture as a signal to start, and then you see Vernon struggling with whirling his arm around as the fast hand on the clock, and you can see the members who aren't in the center fighting not to laugh because of all of this. Mayhem of the Thirteenth Month.

Hansol's Gums

omg maybe HS can watch these when they go circle back after the whole album??

Hansol's Gums

vernon struggling for 3 min was accurate AHAHAHA

Hansol's Gums

Hope we can get a Rolling Stone reaction after hehe (Pinwheel, Lilili Yabbay, Trauma!!) and the shorts about the behind the scenes for this lmao Side note: Maybe Han C is the secret 14th member of SVT and he ghost wrote Lilili yabbay
