THE QUEENS ARE BACK! | I-DLE - Crow (MV + Performance Video) Reaction

WE ARE OFFICIALLY LOSING OUR MINDS OVER i-dle’s pre-release track “Crow”!!! This was SOOOOO GOOD!!! From Soyeon’s absolutely savage opening rap (that whole first section was INSANE), to Yuqi and Shuhua serving that fierce choreography and mean attitude, then Minnie coming in with those literal siren vocals that gave us chills… And THEN Miyeon rapping at the end!? DANG… They completely broke away from the traditional K-pop formula to deliver something filled with pure ambition, resilience, and dark energy! We also checked out the performance video, and WOW… that was one hell of an experience. We’re so happy I-dle is finally back! So glad you guys checked this out! I got the same impression on the messaging of the song. Doesn't matter what people say or think, they'll take all of that and turn it around into another reason to keep soaring. As for the member who is gone, from what I understand, bullying accusations were made against Soojin from when she was in middle school and the company terminated her contract. I don't know much about it all myself, but the other members seem to still hold her in high esteem even if they don't really speak about it - I assume b/c the company doesn't allow it.

Wow I didn’t expect your reaction for idle. I am a big fan and love their bsides too. You were right about lore and change of music. Idle, especially soyeon, were harshly criticized for last cbs. Moreover, fans didn’t like them removing letter g from group’s name. Cube has always been a mess and if Soyeon didn’t wrote ‘latata’ and girls didn’t push it, their debut wouldn’t happen. They never had big support or good management from cube and the moment girls decided to relax a bit their popularity started to decline. I think that’s why they are using crow to describe themselves bcs it is especially easy to lose influence for them in this industry. So with this album idle really pushing themselves and trying new things. Soyeon used to be very strict about giving members specific part. For example, intros were always given to her or Minnie, pre chorus to miyeon and yuqi. But in Mono Yuqi starts the song , which was very unexpected for me and sound is very unusual for kpop. I hope you will react to mono and upcoming album too.

About Soojin, it was bullying scandal which was not true. At that time mingyu from svt, hyunjin skz and lia from itzy were all accused. As you can see only soojin was kicked out.

I'm obsessed with this song - I think it might be my favourite (i)-dle release! And the music and performance videos, not coincidentally, have also served to intensify my belief that Soyeon is experimenting with gender - which in turn (IMO) tracks with the message of the song. Like, I don't follow (i)-dle as closely as I do some other groups, but there is, to me, a very interesting trajectory in Soyeon's writing and presentation, starting with NXDE (overtly feminist rejection of the male gaze), progressing to TOMBOY ("it's neither man nor woman"), QUEENCARD (which is almost, one might argue, both a satirization of hyperfemininity and a last ditch-attempt at attempting to reclaim it), and WIFE (a much more overt and scathing critique of the type of femininity that's both performed for and desired by the male gaze) - after which they drop the G from their group name in pursuit of a more genderless, inclusive image. *Then* we get MONO, which is an overtly queer track, and now we get CROW, the vibe of which is very much "if you tell me I'm unlucky and bad, I'll embrace that and use it to get even stronger." (Also, it released in pride month! Coincidence? Possibly, but I Choose To Believe.) And in both videos, Soyeon is visibly embracing a different appearance than the other four - that final group shot in the performance video particularly has her with a very masculine silhouette which the blocking/framing emphasises rather than downplays. You guys compared her to Zico, and I think that's not only accurate, but intentional: she's going for a masculine look. Also: I don't have enough information to rule on this, but that undulating cry at the start of the song reminds me of something I've heard at various First Nations ceremonies; similarly, some of the choreo, particularly the last bit at the end of performance video, makes me think of dance clips I've seen from powwows. And if I'm correct on those counts, it would add a whole other layer to the song, because the Crow in a lot of First Nations traditions isn't a negative scary thing, but rather a symbol of intelligence, adaptability and rebirth.

"WIFE" is unironically, or even a bit ironically, one of my favorite 'new songs' they've done in recent years. It is 'most played' on my 'house-cleaning playlist'.. which in itself is an irony. It's SO GOOD though. Through the many eras of i-dle, (G)I-DLE or whatever, I think this 'era' is Soyeon's greatest in terms of visuals. She (as are they all) are stunning as ever, but she exudes such power through just her presence alone. She's not flashing skin or being sexy or even feminine, but it just yells through the screen This Is Me. ngl, that's hot. I would love to see H.S do a deep dive on this group. Because while they know many of the songs, the b-sides and performances and just how they came to be such a supergroup in the 'female' kpop world.. while also still being a bit.. underground? That fascinates me. It's like everyone knows Blackpink and Twice.. and later Aespa and Lessarfim, IVE, and NMIXX, but there isn't anyone that I know of who does it like i-dle, with this much success and 'clout' and yet still they're somehow under the radar of 'global superstardom'.. (this is not to throw shade at, compare or... anything amongst idols, male or female.. but I, even as an enjoyer of their music feel like there is so much that could be learned, from me, by the H.S knowledge of Korea/Korean and the entire male vs female.., not that it is a competition for me... but it is still a 'thing' of.. male vs female... and how i-dle have navigated it all through the years. I can't be the only Sausage wanting that deep dive.
