Our first ever Japanese track from SVT and ohhhhhh this was NOT what we expected :D

We won't spoil the details cuz we got the vid right here XD but we will just say, there is this....image of a typical Japanese title track when it comes to boy groups. Not talking about genre, etc. we mean specific to each group, there is this pattern...and SVT did NOT follow that pattern—music and dance both. :D

Not that the pattern itself was something bad—it was an awesome pattern we loved—but we also love to be surprised, and this was a pleasant surprise :):)

Now, track aside, let us know if you want us to check something else to (again) wrap up the previous two albums before moving on to the next one :D We know we checked out some stuff for Clap, etc. but there were some other links people recommended that we never got to, so...now's the time! :)

So let us know, and we'll see you in whatever the next vid ends up being!! :D

Enjoy <3

I am very much a Landline generation. Call Call Call is for sure in my top 5 of SVT Japanese songs, the video is just so good and the concept, the styling lovee it. The chorus just sticks in you head even after one listen and the choreography omg!! it's comparatively easy to follow (only the tring tring part😂) when it comes to SVT choroes. But even though it seems easy I guess the more times you watch it you notice, specifically Woozi in the choreo video, when they have to switch positions and some members have to move very far away, they are so smooth with it. In the chorus choreo, if you follow Woozi he changes places in 3/4 moves effortlessly from one end to the other basically. Like hats off to all of SVT members they are just amazing dancers. There many transitions like that in this choreo. This also makes me request if you guys would be open to doing SVT individual fancams some time, you get to see how much individuality every member puts in their performance, it fun to watch. Jeonghan learned Japanese from scratch so most of the time it his him giving speeches or translating sometimes. Fun fact he was named 'Prince of Japan' by his japanese fans, he is also very close friends with Kento Yamazaki (from Alice in Borderland) and did a limited 5 episode chat and explore Korea and food kind of series on HULU. He has also attended SVT concerts sometimes to support Hannie. And ofcourse the colab with band Omoinotake to make Better Half song. Also Jeonghan often deos a lot of Japanese song covers and even has a solo song he wrote in both Korean and Japanese called Dream. He is for sure the most popular in Japan when it comes to SVT members. Also just to remind you guys because I guess it was a while ago that I commented!! but would you guys be able to squeeze in the 300 Fan Chant video where carats surprised SVT next time 😅😂 300 Fan chant - https://youtu.be/2l3OyUIdJVw?si=DTW77HcFZXp9kClb Links for Highlight (Jap ver.) choreo - https://youtu.be/p8Qm_EDTyt0?si=7zrHHE_f2KeRaph3

Call call call!!! Just to add to the big collection of SVT x HS universe coincidences, this song comes up, albeit briefly, in a future content you'll be watching (i don't know if you already pre-recorded it, but you'll know what I mean 😅). Maybe it's really fate working its wonders lol. About the vibe of SVT Japanese songs: I totally get what you said about this being very SVT both in music and choreo! But I think their Japanese songs have a certain distinct 'flavor' that I can't describe. Still very svt but sort of its own universe in their discography. Idk if that makes sense, but you'll probably see once you get to more of their Japanese releases 😅 And speaking about pre-choruses, yes!! omg, pre-choruses are truly the iconic parts of songs. One svt Japanese song comes to mind that has a pre-chorus that is just OUT OF THIS WORLD (carats iykyk). And I love the vocal team usually getting to shine in these parts, and how distinct their tones become. Of course we have to talk about the choreo too. I'd argue this is one of the most intense choreographies they ever have; a full workout like you said. Their choreographer once said that he can trust the performance team and Woozi to be the ones to move quickly from one end to another in formation changes. Here you can see Woozi in the far right (9:35) basically moving on ONE FOOT from one end of the stage all the way to the far left. He's crazyy. Fun fact: Jeonghan is sort of their Japanese "spokesperson". He and Hoshi are usually the ones assigned to do the Japanese ments or speeches during award shows. He's really good at it and is seen practicing Japanese in one of their contents! Japanese SVT tracks just sounds like Seventeen in Japanese, and that's the influence of what Woozi does. He says that he studies the style of Japanese songs to make sure he can fully respect the music culture there while incorporating the Seventeen sound. Some of their JP tracks are so fucking good, like you don't even need to put them in a different category from the group's main tracks they're included in my eyes. I would actually love it if when you finish reacting to all the Japanese title tracks you did a ranking of what's your favorite and I bet I could even guess right now what would be on the top (but I won't say it for now to not influence anything) because there's like a top 3 title tracks that everyone and their mother agrees are some of the best music SVT put out there in 11 years. Seventeen are massively popular in Japan and some people even think Jeonghan is Japanese, he has a whole separate cult-following fanbase in Japan because he fits the style there so well. He's also learning Japanese and he's like the leading Japanese speaker in Seventeen. Woozi is also really good at Japanese but when he talks he sounds like he's in an anime (which makes sense because he loves anime) and Jeonghan sounds more like a proper "I was taught in a classroom" Japanese. I am not a native Japanese speaker but I did study it for years (I am a bit rusty) but from what I know and hear at least in the first few JP tracks they did, it's all very rudimentary words and expressions they use in the lyrics. I think the constraints of writing in a language you're not fluent in is that your choice of words is much slimmer than you'd like compared to how, for example, Woozi is so expressive and poetic when writing a song like Smile Flower or even something witty like Clap. Still the lyrics themselves even follow the popular sentiments and what you'd expect to hear phrased in a certain way from other J-pop/J-rock songs so I'd say that intent wise they did a very good job. Pronunciation wise (to my ears) they're very *careful* of the way they say the words the way you would be when you're not fully used to saying them. I think Minghao has the thickest accent but in a way it also makes his voice stand out to me the most. D'some said something along the lines of "you can't expect them to go all out" during the performance but I will say, that for Seventeen those words are a challenge. They WILL expect THEMSELVES to go all out and the choreo might be one of the toughest ones they have to this day but if they weren't doing the song as an encore in that particular fan meeting they would have gone all out and more. That's what I saw when the concert clip played because they were just playing around due to it being an encore, "Inkigayo vibes" like Han-c said, but I have seen them do this song with full energy on tours and let me tell you they put everything they have into it. "Did they ever do a Chinese song" well yes and no. They did a Chinese version of Home that was directed by Minghao, they also have a fan song they did for concerts called Xiāng Yù De Yì Yì (相遇的意义) (The Meaning of Meeting) but it's a digital-only track that is only on Chinese music streaming platforms (plus the audio can be found on Youtube but not on any international streaming platforms) and from what I know it wasn't promoted as a CHINESE DEBUT like Call Call Call was and that largely has to do with the fact that PLEDIS has very bad relations with the Chinese side of managements and promotions due to NUES'T mishandling (that's a whole other story) but as a side note Seventeen are popular in China as well even though they never fully promoted there and Minghao and Jun are massively popular there outside of Seventeen, Minghao especially as an influencer and celebrity and Jun as an actor. Back to the song though - I really love it. I love all of the Seventeen JP songs but Call Call Call has a feral side to it that is really fun to listen to. Fun fact: the first line when Scoups goes "SEVENTEEN" is exactly at 0:17 seconds. NEXT! I can't really think of a specific video I want to recommend you guys as a wrap up because I think I covered most of it in the TeenAge album wrap up, so I was really debating because I do wanna start looking for links for You Make My Day but at the same time sending the links too early is also kind of rude, in my eyes? Like I'm hurrying you or something. BUT! Just in case, I will leave two links to the first track of YMMD which is the title track OH MY! hi

I'd love for you guys to check the korean version of this song out!!

konekochan

so true it's like Woozi put a different kind of drug in their Japanese songs, there's no words to describe how freaking good they are 😩😩

lks17

It's cool how you guys mentioned 부석순 because 거침없이 came out just before Cal Call Call !!!

Thunder Monkey

There is so much SVT contents being released for you to "over eat" DSome! I hope we can all pig out together. Can we look forward to variety contents like Mingyu and The8 on Youngi's No Prepare and The whole group SVT (except active military members) on Boo's show, Bibbi dibobidi Boo? Or however u spelling tt?!?! 🤣 thank u love u and HanC so much!

Call Call Call is such a fun track! Not in my top SVT Japanese tracks (I think 24H is probably my ultimate Japanese SVT track), but still thoroughly enjoy when I do listen to it, which is pretty frequently on my workout playlist. The drive/energy is a perfect motivator! Love that they kept that identifiable SVT sound even with it being a Japanese release, even with other groups I do tend to gravitate towards their Japanese tracks where they utilize aspects of their typical sound vs. trying something new. Jeonghan sounded SO GOOD on the pre-chorus, thought it suited him perfectly! Also a big fan of the choreography and how they attacked it, it's always so satisfying when SVT show off their power and synchronization as a whole group. And somewhat random sidenote, but I feel like I've started to notice this more and more, they really like a Wonwoo ending moment, and he always delivers! Personally, I'm ok with moving on for now, nothing in particular comes to mind as must-check out performances from the most recent songs/albums you've checked out. But I will also gladly watch (almost) any SVT content so if others do have recommendations I look forward to seeing them!

I weirdly enough listened to the Korean version of the song first so to me this one feels like an alternative version. But both versions give the same vibes and I love them both equally. Worth a listen to the Korean version on your own time.

It’s difficult for kpop groups to break into the japanese market, that’s why groups tend to adapt their sound or style. However, for SEVENTEEN, their music, "theater kid” style, and backstory resonates with japanese audiences. Even before promoting in Japan, 17 Carat entered the Japanese charts, and Love & Letter reached No. 1. That was really impressive for a rookie group from a bankrupt company with no Japanese members. Maybe that’s why they didn’t feel the need to change their style. I mean, If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. Now, I wasn’t sure if y’all wanted to move on or if you wanted more links for this song, so I’ll give you both. For CALL CALL CALL, I’m guessing y’all want to avoid using more Ideal Cut clips, so here are some other options. I tried to find more recent clips. It wasn’t easy because most of them aren’t on YouTube. If you want slightly better quality, you can make a free account. 2018 SBS KPOP AWARDS (korean ver.): https://youtu.be/hgg8W9jsVmw?si=q9iyFUbErGbWRPsV 2022 BE THE SUN TOUR (encore version, no eng subs btw, but still fun and wholesome to watch I really recommend): https://www.bilibili.tv/en/video/4799281089879040?bstar_from=bstar-web.homepage.recommend.all 2019 HARU JAPAN TOUR (different arrangement): https://www.bilibili.tv/en/video/4793161156006453?bstar_from=bstar-web.homepage.recommend.all In case, yall want to move on “Oh My” is the first track and title track of their next album. I know this song before i even knew seventeen. Heard this from a shop i used to go a lot here in japan. Didnt even know the song name and the artist, i just know the melody and the oh oh oh part. It’s been stuck to my head for a long time. Imagine my surprise when i deep dive into svt and heard the song😂

Not sure if anyone's put it on your radar yet, but I'd like to recommend the Chinese show CYZJ. It's a competition/collaboration show that Jun and The8 are cast members on that aired around this time (2018). They perform some Chinese versions of seventeen songs as well as covers of other artists' songs. I love the show, it really shows a lot of Jun and Minghao's growth as artists, and to this day I think there are sides of Jun in particular in this show that he hasn't showed much in other content. It's also the show that made me Jun biased after originally biasing another member when I first got into the group so I do have a soft spot for the show :') Other notable cast members are Yanan from Pentagon and Samuel, who trained with svt and was on 17tv. Samuel was pulled from Pledis by his mom iirc bc she felt he was too young to debut (he's an '02), he later debuted as a solo artist. Here's the link with English subs if/when you ever get to it! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG1J7bHQoU7CJX5eevmmPVud7ZtWvBCw3&si=F6cXtksytIT2NuXc

Ima sugu dewa shite~ ah yeah~~ lol.. 1. funny you ask about if Seventeen has Chinese Song as a whole group right when you are entering YMMDay and YMMDawn era as both title track of the album actually have chinese version of it. 2. Seventeen has 1 chinese original song titled 相遇的意义 (만남의 의미 / The Meaning of Meeting), which Woozi Bumzu composed in celebration for Seventeen performing in Macao after I think almost few years of not being able to perform in chinese speaking land. Minghao and Jun really loves and happy singing the song. 3. For Japanese lyrics, tho I am not Japanese native speaker, Woozi-Bumzu has tendency to match the melody with Japanese lyrics perfectly, meaning that it was never filler words but actually fit naturally to the songs which is why their Japanese original tracks is so beloved by J-carats. 4. Woozi reveals the process of writing the lyrics would be Woozi and the team will write the lyrics in Korean with Japanese nuance in mind > Japanese translator/lyricist will translate the lyrics into Japanese using the right words and match the melody > then they will cross check again by translating the song in Korean to see if the messages precisely convey. 5. That is why when Japanese Original tracks were made in Korean Version, you will find the sound in Korean is more awkward as it is translated back into Korean with Japanese Nuance in mind. 6. Kinda odd and complicated but the fact that I listened to most of idols Japanese tracks will have more awkward Japanese nuance and natural Korean nuance as most of the song were pre-made in Korean then translated into Japanese, makes me felt Seventeen Japanese tracks always were made with Japan in mind instead just using ready-made-songs. Anyway. Looking forward to the next one! Love, a Sausage and a Carat. 🌕💍

I am not sure if it was mentioned before but dxs also has song called “feel me” which was released in ‘essential’ channel Also v8 released mvs for their solo tracks and girlsnboys

I’ve seen people saying that “call call” is their jp “aju nice” Personally, svt jp songs are my favorites. Their lyrics are especially beautiful imo.

First off, definitely original phone sign generation here. Call Call Call is such an exciting song. I saw it live the last time I saw SVT, and it's literally their Japanese Aju Nice; that's how fun it is live. I believe they kind of treat it like they do Aju Nice for encores when they're in Japan. Now for next steps, I think we can move on. I'm so excited to see you guys get to Oh My! I keep having this recurring dream/thought that you guys have reacted to Oh My! Lol. Like, I come to Patreon for a rewatch convinced that you guys have covered it when obviously we haven't. So, only to get me out of this cycle, let's do this!! Oh my MV: https://youtu.be/_5PELxP8Udg?si=ydO7laOqHHwNeVU4 Oh my dance practice : https://youtu.be/0_L-OE6Q3Mg?si=hq8_RwVfn5p-153q As for live performances, there are so many good ones it's hard to choose from, so I'll leave it to other Sausage Carats to give suggestions!!

Fay

You can tell why their fan base in Japan is one of the biggest amongst K-pop idols! This being their Japanese debut says it all

Jordan

ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES OF THEIRS!!! MY FLABBER WAS GASTED WHEN I SAW THIS!

Jordan

I love hearing your takes on the behind the scenes in the music. And you guys will always pick up on things within the music that i (a person with very limited idea on music) could never find lmao. I always saw this song as a seventeen song, with the japanese fast pace beat. Also in this song, im pretty sure this is the one that jeonghan had the longest time dancing. He almost never left the stage which is incredible. They have, with my knowledge, only a few group chinese songs and that includes covers of other songs/their own like Home. They have a song https://youtu.be/RB5KLykp6_o?is=fdhi8FyhbCvmjzPQ and i honestly done remember the name of it bc it was in mandarin but it is absolutely beautiful! 😂

Hansol's Gums

If you focus on woozi, you'll notice he moves from one side to the other in like under 5 seconds HAHA It's my fave discovery abt this song Yes they do have CH songs!!!! for the next 2 albums hehe (YMMDay and YMMDawn)

Hansol's Gums

i just say bibaboo coz it's so long HAHAHA

Powerful from the very first note and with lyrics that left a strangely powerful impression, the song—which embodied the slogan of the time, ‘A Debut in True SVT Style’—was a huge success and remains a track that gets the crowd going during encores to this day. As many songs from this period were characterised by their guitar work, the band led by P.Kitae-hyun and Woozi’s creative flair truly shone through. And even after this, the title tracks from their Japanese releases continued to deliver genuinely moving moments that have gone down in history. (Is that an exaggeration??) As you may know, CEO Han Seong-soo is said to have led BOA to great success as a solo artist in Japan. So, I feel they put a lot of thought into how to make an impact in Japan. As for the lyrics, they created unique, catchy moments; for instance, answering Vernon’s call with ‘moshi moshi’ is iconic. The most memorable lyric is in Minhao’s part, where he used the term ‘SUMA.HO’—an abbreviation? or a neologism? 【Smartphone】that’s starting to catch on among young people. Everyone’s Japanese pronunciation is excellent, and Jeonghan, Jun, Seungkwang and DK have recorded many J-POP covers. Wonwoo released a digital single yesterday… This has gone on a bit too long, so I’ll leave it at that :) Carats are so Happy July.

Bet!!!!! Lets goooo then. I wish Han'C and D'some could spoil us and gift us just a solid week of Seventeen contents bcuz they love us so much! 😇 There is just so much art to share! I cant help it and im sorry to the other fandoms but im just greedy. Not a multistan just loyal to my soil with the originators not the Imitators day 1s of SVT! 🩷🩵🩷🩵🩷🩵🩷🩵

Callx3 is such a special song for me. I was living in Japan at the time and just got into them between Thanks and this song. I managed to get a ticket to their debut showcase for this release and it was so good. I had to rush there after work and my ticket number was terrible, but I had a great time anyway. I hadn't really noticed Seungkwan as much before, but I vividly remember just how charismatic he was in real life. I've loved him ever since. I don't know if video exists of it, but they sang an acapella ver of Callx3 and it was so freaking good (duh SVT, but like idk if it was planned at all). Lots of Japanese Carats also praised them for their pronunciation (particularly for 'z' sounds). It was obvious they had worked really hard. I loved how fresh and SVT it was for a Japanese release. The rest of their Japanese discography is just as good, if not better.

Also to let you know the third video was fanmeet during covid times.
