We're making some changes to how characters are "compiled" on the cloud (i.e. how characters are processed before they can be loaded in interactions). Previously, every single uploaded character and version of those characters were compiled, even though the great majority of them were never used. This is a great waste of time, resources and storage, and as more and more characters are uploaded to the cloud, it's becoming unsustainable and costly.

Going forward, we're introducing conditions that must be met for characters to be eligible for automatic compilation.

Eligibility conditions

Version of character is used in an interaction

This is an immediate pass, since unless a compiled version of a character is available, the interaction wouldn't be possible to load.

NOTE! It's only the eligible version of character that is compiled, not all versions. (I.e. the version that was used in the interaction.)

Uploaded within the last 90 days

If a version of character was uploaded within the last 90 days, then the latest version for that character will be processed.

Character has a score of 50 or more

If a character has a score of 50 or more, then the latest version of that character will be compiled.

If any of these are true, then that version of character is will be automatically compiled.

NOTE! Even if character is not eligible, you can still initiate a cloud compilation in the new queue system.

New queue system

Any character (both those eligible for automatic compilation and those not) can be put in a prioritized queue. If a character is missing a compilation file, then instead of "Load" button, you'll see a "Queue" button. If pressed, the character will be put in a prioritized queue for immediate compilation, becoming available soon thereafter (usually within 3-10 minutes depending on server load).

All the best.

do you have any suggestions on how furryvne can run smoother on my pc? i don't have a vert expensive pc but i was wondering if its possible to tinker with the graphics so it runs faster?

Try a lower resolution?

I would even argue a case could be made for only auto compile characters used in interactions and have other characters "request" compiled, provided the character editor can still load them and save them as a local file. That would let people start working on an interaction with a local version. When they are ready to publish they can queue it for cloud compile, then replace the local character with the cloud version and publish. (If the character is re-uploaded to the cloud, the person using it would need to load, save it local, and update the interaction) I admit it is not a good argument lol.

Other than setting the quality and resolution settings at the start, there's not much you can do. Our upgrade to Unity 6 tanked performance by around 20-25%, despite not changing anything. All this was done in preparation for render pipeline migration, which would improve performance, but that has been put on hold. It's bound to happen sooner or later though. Off the top of my head, I suspect a lot of people are creating interactions privately which they never share (or never finish). If a character has to be compiled in the cloud before it can be added to an interaction locally, you're still probably going to be compiling characters needlessly, and it's inconvenient for the interaction author to wait. What about something like a "compile locally" option?

FurryVNE Team

You can already do that. It's the Export > For interactions and then adding from file in interaction.

Ivee

Yes, I know that, but given this change, does it make sense to add a button to directly go from "add character from cloud" to "locally compiled character for interactions"? I'm just thinking about how that could reduce friction. A lot of people who probably _should_ be locally compiling characters will probably instead just press the "queue" button because that's the most obvious way to add a character from the cloud. I dunno, just spitballing here.

Thanks for using my Flint upload as the reference, I did make too many iterations of her and wanted to delete the older ones. hopefully this will remove the older versions leaving just her latest upload.

FurryVNE Team

Ah, like that. For now, you'd have to load it and then export it.
