Before we start, I'd like to announce that from now on, Patreon and Subscribestar posts will be available in both English and Spanish. Thanks in advance for your support.
It was early 2023. Back then, Crimson Prison was nothing more than a far-fetched dream. I had already written most of the script for chapter one, but there was still a massive amount left to do: stat screen, quest book, missions, maps, training, skill tree, shop systems... literally everything.
At first, Crimson Prison was going to include a tutorial explaining how the game world worked; how to properly read dialogues and tell apart “”, (), and «»; it also served as an introduction to me as the developer, and a way to encourage people to join my Patreon.
Honestly, I never had much financial support to keep this project going, so I really appreciate all the help I've received these past few months.
The tutorial also included a couple of jokes and, after flipping a coin —a nod to my other project TSSC—, the game would begin.
Later, when the story reached the scene where Sora abandons Zinnia to her fate, my OC (the one you see in the image) would reappear, representing me, cracking a few more jokes before continuing the story.
This part was removed for several reasons.
First: even though I didn't start Crimson Prison as a professional writer, I did have some idea of what I was doing. At one point, I read on a forum that dumping all your worldbuilding at the start is a huge mistake; you should reveal things gradually to keep the reader engaged. That was a mistake I made with TSSC, dropping all the lore at once. Here, I wanted to go step by step. And even if it might look like I've already explained everything about Equinox and Solstice, it's still just scratching the surface!
The second one was because it killed the serious tone. Unlike TSSC, CrPr is a project with a deeper, more serious story. Kicking it off with a bunch of gags would have ruined the atmosphere from the start. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't drop a lighthearted moment or a joke here and there, but it's a whole different thing.
And finally, I knew it would've been a pain to replay the tutorial every single time someone started a new game. In the end, I deleted it, but I always keep all the files safe.
