Dev Log #1 - New Game (Patreon)
Content
Hello there, Lucyfar here. Today I'm doing my first dev log, I'll be talking some things about my experience on developing Empire of Heroes. Let's start with some numbers, like I've said before i already have the whole Prologue story's planned out, I'm now in the process of writing the actual dialogues and scenes, here's what we have so far:
6 written scenes (out of around 20 planned scenes).
7.138 words and 39.274 characters (across all scenes).
All main characters and side characters models done.
All main love interests routes already planned out.
What needs to be done:
• Write the rest of the scenes. (Around 14 more planned scenes)
• Make some extras characters to be in the background.
• Clear more storage in my PC to get more maps and items to use in Studio (I'm planning on buying a new SSD but for now i have to delete more than 300GB of storage space).
• Start rendering.
• Start coding in Renpy.
• Make a new GUI for the project.
• Find free copyright songs to use in the project.
• Other minor stuff i probably forgot now and that will get back to bite me in the ass later.
Alright, now having said that i guess i can talk about my workflow and the pillars of this game's development process. I have divided my workflow into separate categories, i like to call them "My Pillars": Story, Visuals, Coding and Misc.
Story: Everything related to the game's narrative, the planning of the story, the writing of the script, notes about characters, notes about world building stuff, character sheets, etc... What X character likes, what X character hates, what's their secrets, what's their opinion on X subject, what's the current political state of the world, how a society with super powers have evolved of the course of decades? What happens when a hero kill someone? What happens when 2 powerful individuals clash in the middle of the city? What society thinks about heroes? All this stuff, i write about to help me make sense and logic of what's going on in the games world.
Visuals: Everything related to how the game will look in your monitor screen, the characters design, shaders, filters, the font I'm going to use, the GUI of the game, the lightning, posing, facial expressions, animations, camera angles, etc... Basically the visual fidelity of the project.
Coding: Everything related to Renpy really, putting the script and renders in the game's engine and making it into an actual game, paths, routes, how the player's interactions will change the course of the story or relationships with its characters? How can i put a system that i thought in my mind in the actual game, sometimes it's a simple IF/ELSE situation, sometimes it requires more complex stuff i still don't know how to do, but I'm always studying and learning to get the job done.
Miscellaneous: Everything else that doesn't go in any of the first 3 categories, like music for example. Or marketing, making people aware of the existence of the project. Do i have money to use to improve the project? Do i need help with something? Do i need to make daily posts on patreon or people will lose interest in the project? Do i need to comission something? Everything else comes here.
That's all for today, i hope you guys like my first dev log, I'll probably polish the next one more, I'm kinda in a rush atm, gotta go to the gym and when I'm home it's back to the Lab! Oh yeah i have a secret room in our Discord called THE LAB, it's where i put experimental stuff, for now I'm not ready for anyone to see it yet, and honestly i don't think i ever will haha it's a very private place but it helps me in organizing some thoughts. But yeah, i wish you all a great day and until next time!
