In the mountains again reviewing gear for your systems! I continue to fill requests from TNPrs for more tent reviews. As such I used your donation dollars to do just that. Here you'll learn about the Kelty "Far Out" series of tents. The 2 and 3 person one, used for this review, are shown. Also a fun new POU for your tents is proffered and one I've used several times, you'll like it!

These Far Out tents are lightweight, full featured, have great flies, provide xlnt ventilation, and won't break the bank. This might be a good choice for your Bug Out Kit integration and the Far Out series replaced the Gunnison (shown) which have served in my BOKs for over ten years. Along the way you'll see me dispatching grasshoppers and I'll tell you what the "GPS" is... ha ha.

I would love to buy one of these but I am still trying to wear out my Kelty I purchased in 1990 in my single days. I’m old and married now but I made countless backpacking and fishing trips with this. Got 2 boys through Cub Scouts, then to earning their Eagle Scout in it and it’s still going strong. Hopefully one day it will give up and I can get some new tech. BTW, I have the same problem with a 2000 Toyota tundra!

Moe Mansour

Love that you're doing camping vids again.

The Nutnfancy Project

If it's still working, run it! These more compact tents are good choices for your BOK so make sure your kits are equipped. Remember once they're in the BOK they stay there.

Rob Miller

Good point. I’ll buy one more asap.

Mattimus

*burns ants with magnifying glass* -love the call-out to get alone and think. You’re right.

I've been a huge fan of Kelty after buying a Kelty Trail Ridge several years ago. The first night it withstood very high wind and rain. It's still going strong with only a small leak in the fly after all these years and multiple storms. Thanks for recommending Kelty. I love my Redwing 50 as well.

matt

Very nice tent. Would work great for my bok. I am 5'8" so length is perfect for me. Glad you are doing momore tent and outdoor gear reviews. Keep them coming. Now will be taking some full size scissors when truck camping.

Greg M

Thanks Nutn! Blessings to you!

Aquanaut

No way I can justify a 235.00 purchase for a stash and forget tent in a bug out bag. I'm not sure I could justify that cost for a tent in regular use.

Steve Feeser

I just took a nap to last Friday Saturday. I drove 2 hours to Bald Eagle State Forest PA. Walked a mile and set up my Kelty Brush Creek 2. Went to sleep at 8pm. Got up about 8am. It was great. Read my Bible and rested. I needed that.

The Nutnfancy Project

Copy that. I don't think the price is outlandish at all though. I could understand it for a BOK, more like $125 perhaps. But for lifetime use, it's cheap for this quality. To get it lower I'd have to review pure communist China tents from Amazon.

The Nutnfancy Project

Kelty won't let you down, I'm hearing lots of love in TNP for the brand, all warranted

Nate Berglund

I've been looking at the Kelty Discovery Trall or Late Start as a backpacking/BOK tent. the Far Out tent looks great but the bright yellow fly is a no go for me, as I prefer to keep a low profile. Any chance you're planning on reviewing those? We love Kelty because we've heard you raving about them for over a decade lol. Every piece of gear I've bought based on your review has been legit.

Zack Harris

Kelty is good value n quality, been ruckn same kelty Comanche pack for decades… competitive option for less is the slumberjack brand daybreak series… been using for a few years … decent color, sawc for >6ft, and the 2 person is around $100 on OP. FYI

Ian

Pretty similar to Alps Mountaineering! Also great value. Next purchase for me is going to be that Nutnfancy Blade we got teased with a Lil while back...

Snip snip! Mmmm nap POU.. Thanks for the vid. Currently modding a Pro Trek to accept Zulu strap. Wish me luck!

Chris Fischer

For a napping setup I prefer a hammock.

Adam

great tent review I like to see some good mountain camping systems reviews

Carl Bailey

I'm short it would work for me. I need to pick up a smaller tent as the second wave of kids are leaving.

Hubert Todd Bramblett

Nice great setup I would love to take a side by side up to Taylor pass Colorado and pitch a tent by that beautiful high elevation mountain lake. Already have the tent and working on the side by side. Bought the the tent years ago after watching one of your reviews using what I learned from the video it's been great still doing the job. Keep up the good work teaching people how to be happy on this side of life.

BadgerTails

YES! We have been running Keltys in our Moto ADV rally kits for MANY years, they ARE durable, buy Barbie shelter with confidence. I run a 3 man one now, IIRC bought in about 2008; zippers are still good, vestibule is a huge plus when you need to keep boots etc. outside, and the overhead mesh is still G.T.G.. It's incredible therapy to be sleeping on ground, get away from the City lighting, campfire talk, waking up to weird noises like a raccoon growl or a barn owl HOOOOO!!! Been touring on BMWs since '96 and here is an observation note; when you find a great one ( of anything you love ), buy another real fast for backup. The companies get bought out, etc., and replacement is another rabbit hole. SxS query; what sort of range do you get in the back-country crawling around? Is it even an issue? Here in Wisco/UP MI we have a massive growth in the ATV/UTV sector and the vendors are taking note, even in the backwoods. Drive on TnPers!!!

BadgerTails

Which one? That si a growing market too....

Chris Fischer

Just a cheap Amazon one. I usually take the rating at 75% of the max on those.

Carl Bailey

Great nephews and nieces. Waiting for grandkids.

Nathan Andrew Lewis

Love the outdoor gear reviews. Good outdoor gear can mean the difference between life-and-death and certain situations.

Elijah Ballard

How do you guys do that with young children? I take them when I can to give the wife a break.

Chris Marchi

I remember the Boy Scouts had some great canvas tents.

Chris Marchi

Army GP small canvas tent was great too

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

Well I'll be buying and taking this tent backpacking in Texas and New Mexico. Thanks for the review. Love the gear reviews Nutn!

This looks like a great tent. Plan to acquire this in 2025. I’m short so, the headroom is not as much of an issue. I think looking at the video that an average height dude wouldn’t have a problem either. This looks like a wonderful tent. Thank you for the review.
