Probably another under appreciated TNP WRV and that's sad because this one is fun. TD is here with his silliness as we discuss the the great looking 300 meter U Boat watch product. This one is the Sommerso Classico. This, like Panarei, plays up on Italian naval heritage and we talk about it some. The details are impressive but there are a few misses that we don't hold back on. But overall several models of the U Boat line are impressive and one could become a crown jewel of your collection. Even the "Decima Flottiglia MAS" would wear this one. Compared to many other Swiss watches this one is cheap.

The valiant but often doomed Italian manned torpedo efforts of WW II. Example would be the so called "Glorious Failure" 25 Jul 1941 in Malta harbor, involving 2 "maiale" manned torpedoes. Italian Teseo Tessei would lead this disastrous attack ("Decima Flottiglia MAS") that was completely thwarted by the British. https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/manned-submarines-italys-daredevil-torpedo-riders/

I don't like wrist training weights and gauntlets for EDC or dress watches. For a watch for actual diving it has to at least not interfere with the sleeve of the wet suit. Genuinely I don't get the 2nd cool of them at all. 1st cool I can understand for size if the features justify it - and they must be features that require the size - and 2nd cool big watch mindset is like owning and daily driving a low rider. Generally: Big watches are dumb.

Matthew Sinn

Also wide chapter rings are dumb, and by extension watches with small effective faces relative to the case size are dumb -> unless the 1st cool features justify it practically.

TD hit the nail on the head, "pageantry"....ma ma mia!!! And did I hear a vacuum seal when the box was opened!!?? Outstanding!!! I bet the box cost $300 just by itself! Another great WRV, thanks Col and TD!

Thanks for the comment Matt, I love your strong opinions, they way it should be

The only “practical” watch I have is the I watch, the rest are all for fun. I Think the U Boat reviewed looks awesome. Also, please God All Mighty have Doodle end up with a first generation Italian wife. The family reunions would be comedic gold.

Nice review. Doodle is so funny man!

Fun review, and that is a very interesting piece. I don’t think I would wear it enough though to justify the expense! That oil filled one though…. Might have to look into that 👀 Well, after my finances recover from throwing down on a black PPK in .32…… whoooopsie Christmas present to myself

Tacticaldoodle

Well, most oil-filled watches I see are the Casio Marlin, it acts as a good trainer for DIY collectors. You can do it pretty easy, and it does look cool. Gets rid of the refraction when you turn it

I'm game, I'm more of a classic belluccian, tomei-an italo-milf guy though, not AS pumped to find the "greek towel boy" gio scotti look that's so en vogue these days...

Big watches are fun around-the-house pieces, outside the privacy of home there needs to be serious function (g-shock, navi types) in order to hitch a ride. I think my most-worn this month was a 38mm diver

Bluegill097

I’ve been pretty into watches and never heard of such a thing! Thanks for the info, Guess I need to up my game lol

JARMYSTRONG

Is it just me or does that watch look exactly like one of those gawdy Amazon $35 watches?

15:00 how do you “just flip [the crown protector” to the other side? Sounds like a major tear down operation.

“At this point I am sorry I ever brought it up” hahahhahahaha
