As an advocate of better loads for the special purpose 5.7x28mm round, an elite TNP Donor and I team up for this expedited test and review of two high preforming loads. Several aspects of these two 5.7 loads are covered. It ain't all perfect as some reliability issues cropped up in the two tester guns. But in terms of terminal performance and, in one case, amazing penetration you might want to take note if you're carrying the 5.7x28mm in any capacity!

Thanks to TNP donor Tim Cartwright for supporting this project!

You Won't Believe What 5.7x28 Ammo Does

I would love a lightweight carbine but the ammo cost has to come down.

We start our talk about penetration with rant about women not wearing make up. Nice

I was wondering if you'd ever get on to this ammo lol I came to the same conclusions with this ammo in my p90. It is amazing. Expensive and hard to get but damn... exactly what the 5.7x28 was meant to be.

Btw. Bought a treadmill, gonna lose 40+ lbs. no 5x7 for me today hahaha

I wonder if the ruger 5.7 is sensitive to hot loaded ammo? EA loads a 34gr round at 2000 fps for the FN fiveseven pistol, so 2100 plus is getting spicy. Although usually the longer barrel carbines are more sensitive to hot ammo than the pistols are, and the keltec didn’t seem to mind. For reference the FN labeled ss198 27gr round is reported at 2200 fps from the pistol. I’ve done a good amount of reloading for my SBR PS90 and my FN fiveseven and I’ve learned if I load full power for the pistol it will jam my carbine. If I load for the carbine then I leave meat on the bone for the pistol. This was especially true before I SBRed down to a 10” barrel. I do have some of the T6 ammo from elite ammunition (very similar to the black fang) and I chose to dutch load my mags with the T6 and the V-max ss197 when the SBR and pistol are readied for home defense. It seems like a good balance between penetration and energy dumping. I need to get some of the hornady rounds and see how they work in my pistol and SBR.

Treadmill does not work. Start in the kitchen. Then go walk. Then walk with weight (rucking) Then do resistance training of some sort. A Goruck 40# Sandbag would be a better investment than a treadmill.

Saw a lot of gun websites selling Ruger 57s on the cheap. Makes me wonder about the popularity

Give G9X an external hollow points a try and see how you like.

Wish you had some Fiocchi ammo to test, PSA just had it on Daily Deal for $19.99 a box. I ordered 400 rounds for my Ruger 57. I'm waiting for the GEN 2 Ruger PCC carbine to match it up with my pistol.

You should try underwood’s 115 gr 10mm xtreme defender
