A fun SF review on the Grip Pod gun accessory. This is a combined bipod and vertical grip for your tactical gun. We shoot off a garbage can to test it. Then some free form shooting as well, all at about 400 yds. The gun is a Franken Build AR with an xlnt 20 inch LaRue barrel on it.

Haha awesome! I always hated the grip pod but I have one on my M4A1 clone. I saw a lot of them in Iraq. They have a practical use, especially when resting on a barricade or equivalent but they aren’t as good as a bipod when you’re in the prone position. Very excited to hear Nutn’s opinion.

The L85A3 has that setup. I'd probably look more at a QD BiPod you can have in a pouch for SAWC. Seems like the better compromise. Not as quick to deploy for sure but seems like a lot of bulk to have when shooting off hand.

I got a Harris bipod that mounts to a sling swivel for free from Amazon. This will be a fun video to watch.

I was gifted something like this, it splits down the middle and extends to create a bipod. I hate it. It's heavy, the bipod action isn't as good as a real bipod. On my GTW AR, I use my Magpul MS1 sling as a loop sling like the one I had in the Corps. Basically, the slider portion creates an arm loop and you can use it like a traditional loop sling. I've used that setup to outshoot my buddies who keep bipods on their ARs and it doesn't cost me any weight. I do have a regular bipod on my .308 but for a GTW rifle, I think the sling is the way to go.

My favorite use for the Grip Pod is not tactical but administrative. It's a fantastic but overpriced accessory for keeping almost your whole rifle and not just the action out of the dirt, mud, or snow, while you're off doing literally anything else from setting up camp, dropping a deuce, eating a meal, etc. It avoids the perils of leaning the rifle against something where it can fall off, and is very stable when left alone. Especially useful for M16 length rifles and longer/ heavier.

Thanks for the review, Nutn! Have you seen the Blk Lbl integrated handguard/bipod for ARs, Tavor X95 & 7, Hellion, etc? They are pricey but so far look like a pretty cool integrated bipod system.

Dang I was just thinking about the grip pod yesterday haha. I think the idea could benefit from iteration.

Good use idea! Wished I would have mentioned that one, I'll paste your comment above.

We had these on m4s in the national guard issued during premobilization training. I think it made good sense with that platform. The further you get your bipod from the action the more stability it provides. Vertical grips are usually best in a neutral position 6-9in from the action for most folks. In the M4, with its 7in gas system those two overlap and so works well both as a bipod and a grip. As an artilleryman we didn't do much shooting M4 outside individual weapon qualifications and fan fires on pretty basic ranges, but it did provide decent stability in that scenario. I ended up taking mine off because it sticks out pretty far for a VG and I found it a bit cumbersome in and around vehicles.

i’ve been using a fab defense on my ar for awhile now

I love these on rear heavy Tavor x95 and Tavor 7. Helps balance the gun and add control to the heavy rear end.

David Elkins

Nah. If I’m gonna need a bipod I’m gonna want a real bipod.

Dan

Interesting. Not for me but interesting. Nutn … i sent you a PM.

I knew I had one of these sitting in my cabinet full of "stuff" and sure enough, there it was. My dad told me to get one a couple yrs ago and I did, but never tried it out. Will definitely take it out soon and get some reps in using it.

These are handy

Joseph

If anything, these are fantastic for your rifle setting up and not laying in the dirt

I’ve heard it called the “dad bod” of bipods. But like a good dad with a dad-bod….you can count on them

Matthew Kale

I've had one of these for years, very good addition to kit.
