The first of its time that I've reviewed from CRKT, we will look at the Goken here.  Others is in the family line will include the Hissatsu and Heiho folders.  The Goken has some improvements that interest me.  But first I'll get a couple of rants out of the way...things I've noticed when I review knives of this sort!  Then we'll look the specifics of the Goken and answer the real question if this would be a great Soldier blade.

CRKT starting to come around with the CEO, now this, - seems like they are listening to the EDC masses. I see you CRKT. However, CRJB is knocking out of the park lately!

Also, this blade makes me think of the new strider pro-tech with tritium button. Sick!

David Gaines

Would you be willing to review a CRKT M16 . The spear point is one of my favorite light, low budget carry options. I’d be interested to hear your opinion.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yes! I agree. Many CRKT designs are ground breaking and they have broken away from the "same ole" syndrome.

Thanks for making my day with another great krv! I got 2 knives from this lineup for my boys heading into the military. The yukanto is the fixed blade and it has a perfect sheath for LBE. Also got the otanashi no ken because I like the size. I'll probably get one of those for myself as I do security work in Philallujah PA.

I think the name was derived from an unspoken legend of the Samurai Ken. Who constantly battled with Irritable bowel syndrom. Go Ken will be remebered for the sweat on his brow, gritted teeth with a fierce war cry and the flaming fury he left behind.

David Gaines

Awesome! Vintage TNP will make it even more fun.

David R Benkendorf

You're funny... "been carrying it for a few days". I bought a bunch of knives back when I started watching, but I've been carrying the same Endura 4 Wave (Lone Wolf edition) for I don't know how many years now.

"... was derived from an unspoken legend of the Samurai Ken. Who constantly battled with Irritable bowel syndrom. " As usual Jonathan I stand in awe to your wisdom and grasp of history. Good one

WHAT?! You don't speak fluent Japanese? Just like that, the NutnfancyIsAClosetSamurai movement goes up in flames. And to think that all this time you had us fooled...

Kenny VanCleave

You don't have to wear your gloves, we love you in spite all your flaws. But for God sake don't take your shoes off. I think I just threw up in my mouth. ;)

Nutn, been thinking about adding a unique style blade to my edc rotation. The Civivi Brigand flipper caught my eye. 3.5” modified wharncliffe style D2 blade. 3.4oz. $60. Any thoughts/opinions? And no, I don’t already own it.

Connor Murphy

Hey, what do ya know, my edc for today is a Cutlery Shoppe Orange s90v Manix Lightweight. Great video.

Kind of "meh" on CRKT. The Goken looks kind of cool though. I think their steel choice was a miss. They probably have a big portion of their customers that don't know or care what the steel type is. Hope you get a chance to look at a Cold Steel SR1 (yes, I already have one). Now THAT's a soldier blade. Thanks Nutn.

Derek W Tiller

I like the Scorpion in resin paperweight.

Anthony Schaad

Great review Nutn, I do like the design for a tactical blade , but yea I wouldn’t use it per an exchange knife. It looks kind of smooth, I can’t help it , I like blades with good textured grips. Ohh and btw the manix2 are awesome, just got mine in the translucent blue, lightweight n razor sharp... spyderco is gonna be receiving quite a bit of my money from here on out I think lol. Anyway as always great stuff Nutn !!

The idea of a “fighting” knife is actually pretty ridiculous in the 21sr century. Any locking knife with over a 4 1/2 inch blade is capable of devastating and deadly damage. Perhaps hundreds of years ago, may have require a blade for hand to hand combat and numerous battles. Any knife worth it’s salt can be a fighting/defence/“tactical” blade. The concept of creating a blade specifically for that purpose is laughable - also, they usually terminate into such a fine tip that they are essentially useless for any other task but piercing. And to that point, do people not understand how unbelievably delicate the human body is? I suppose people will say that you need an ultra fine tip to penetrate thick denim or leather or something LOL get real!!

Andy Pask

One more thing; if you buy a CRKT, you’re more likely to cut yourself than anyone else. I’ve never seen a major brand with such poor build quality and wretched tolerance. Smack most of their products on the spine and they will fail immediately. Avoid!

Haha I love the rant Japanese cutlery craft history just don’t give a shit lol 😂
