All testing complete, it's time to consider the Glock .22, the model 44.  It's super lightweight and has the same size as a Glock 19.  That pistol btw makes several appearances in this tabletop with TacticalDoodle.  We might differ a little bit on our opinion of the G44 which makes things interesting.  Would this be a good BOK choice?  Is it reliable, accurate?  How about that 10 round magazine...why?  A few competitive options are considered as well with a surprising visit from a forgotten yet still awesome choice.

Glock 44 .22LR: Decades Late, Still Cool

Haven’t watched the vid yet but I couldn’t believe how light it is.

Joshua Wilson

Thank you for the weekend entertainment. In the garage doing some woodworking, and now enjoying some nutnfancy audio.

David and Elizabeth

In our opinion, Glock "Perfection" was Gen 3 with frying pan finish. Extra points for RTF2. Honestly, we haven't really been interested in Glock offerings since mid to late 2000s. But we can't really blame owner Gaston Glock for not being more innovative over the years. He was 50+ years old when he began designing his first pistol and is now 90+. And his kids aren't involved in the business. The personal fortune he amassed later in life was likely beyond his wildest dreams. Well done, Mr. Glock! 👏 👨‍👩‍👧❤

Will Teasle

NF comes through again. The energizer bunny of adventure gear reviewing. Honorable try for Glock. However Ruger’s magic sauce for making reliable .22 Long Rifle firearms is yet to be topped.

Aaron Martin

I want a 44 so bad. My wife is defiantly going to let me have it if come home with a new pistol. Even if it is a 22.

Lon N

I'm with TD, 22/45 all day. Another excellent GRV guys - seasoned with common sense. I hear the new Pamela Anderson posters are not flying off the shelf either.

Micahbraedon

Love mine. I got it private party $300 so no FFL. I like the full form G-19 accessories are ubiquitous and like you said it presents like a G-19 at a glance. It is my bug out kit gun. Still cheaper than the Ruger SR-22 although sans threading. Another option I’ve considered is the Kel-Tec P-17 if you can find it; cheap, lightweight, and threaded. Thanks for the review Nutn and Doodle always entertaining.

Joshua S

Stocking stuffer?!? You guys are too much! If I got one of those when I was a kid, my excitement might literally have killed me. Can I do Christmas at your house? Fantastic review, yet again. Thanks guys!

The Nutnfancy Project

"I hear the new Pamela Anderson posters are not flying off the shelf either." No doubt!

RowdyRon

Glad to see your review, however I share TD's lack of enthusiasm. I'd rather get an SR22. Thanks Nutn.

Todd Farnham

Love mine too. After about a thousand rounds it runs the cheap stuff well with only light primer strikes every few hundred rounds.

Nicolas Ellegiers

Being Flemish, we can have 20 rounds in a handgun 🤠

David Goodridge

I think I’ll stick with the Ruger SR-22. This G44 is cool, but I like the SR22

David Gaines

Love the idea but gotta have better capacity. There is no reason there shouldn’t be at least 20 rounds in there. Still prefer the SR22 in a head to head.

Greg Malcom

I just bought one a month ago despite the mag size irritating me. If 9mm was 18 cents per round, never would have bought it. Discovered it was great fun. 4 of 5 brands of ammo ran flawlessly.

Jacob Leage

As a lefty, I really dig it. No manual safety is a win. Standing by for higher capacity mags. Thanks for the review Nutn!

Marko B.

I'm thinking of buying a .22lr pistol and still haven't decided what to buy. Glock 44 was an option, but there are just too many negative reviews out there...i don't know. PPQ is the highest on my list now.

Trevor

Love my p17 lighter way more capacity and I paid less then $200 edit plus the barrel is threaded

Joseph N Vigliotti

You should see the prices of Glocks in Massachusetts. $ lot f money. They are not legal for citizens in Massachusetts. Gen 1,2, some 3 you can buy from a FFL in state. If individual has a Gen 4 ,Gen 5 you would be able to buy it. in Massachusetts they are a lot of money 💰.

James Spires

I got rid of my Walther P22 for the same reasons Nutn.

Jacob Hurst

Time to make a “barrel girth” patch 😂😂😂

A

Would love to see a Kimber 10mm video!

Racing Psychosis

Likely an unpopular comment, but Ahhh.....yaaawwwwnnnnn. Good video, and review, don't get me wrong about that, my comment is directed at the gun. I like Glocks, but this thing does not interest me whatsoever. And hell no in my bugout bag. It's a lot of money for a G19 trainer, spend the money you spend on this 22 buy a stockpile of 9mm ammo and train (obviously shortages will effect that now, but in normal times this 22 gun is useless to me as a trainer and useless now as I do still have some ammo to train with, and heck where I'm located you can't find 22LR at your LGS either). I'm just not into it, definitely not buying it.

Racing Psychosis

And its not just Glock either. That Ruger LCP 2 in 22 cal. is in my opinion just stupid.

Marcel Silveira

No threaded barrel and only 10 rounds in the magazine for how much? No thank you.

bugout

you could not be more wrong about the lcp2 22lr... mine is 575rds out of box w.out a single hiccup, fte, ftf - flawless... rem bulk, cci velocitors, cci lead nose, etc 10+1 pocket carry, lightweight accurate (amazingly so) and fun to shoot!!

bugout

+1 im continuously amazed by my p17, crazy accurate, crazy reliable (730 rds in)... sr22 fits better in hand but p17 growing on me w every range trip!

IndianaBen

Not having the option to buy it with a threaded barrel outright is pretty lame.

Cesar C

Walther ppq 22, 12rnd, two mags, threaded barrel. And a rave review by Nutn 2 years ago. I have the Walther ppq 9mm. Love it. An inspired purchase by Nutn's reviews. Thank you for all that you do and keep up the good work! (Love the POL vids too (Philosophy of life))

Jonathan-James

Thanks for the vid, Nutn and T-doodle. Great content and honesty as always.

Jonathan-James

Is Pamala associated with Hep-C these days?

Tommy F

Seems like every time I go to Academy they have G44s in stock, and I have to talk myself out of buying one. Not like I need another .22 pistol but if I decided to buy another, I think I’d be better served with another 22/45.

Lon N

I have no idea- Pam was a hottie when I was young..many years ago.

DTP

I'd like to see you get a hold of a keltec p17 if you haven't already.

Racing Psychosis

I have a LCP II in 380, and its a great little pistol for its use. BUT to me the 22LR version completely useless for its POU as a deep conceal carry pistol. If you want a range pistol find something that actually has some sight radius.

Andrettski

Typical of Glock to stick their nose up to the air and not go that extra bit for the end user who screams what features they like. And nope "we're Glock" so just buy it and shut up. Great vid none the less guys. TNP always says it like it is so keep it coming.

James R

Agree with everything said here I myself put my g44 against my Tx22 the Tx22 has over 8000 rounds with only three ammo related failures and g44 just broken in and the Tx22 beats it all day butttt the G44 is awesome because ... it’s a Glock 22 guys lol

Marko B.

Thank you for ur reply! Yes, also Kel-Tec is on my radar but due to no distributor in my country its hard to get. To build a bugout bad with a firearm sounds so sexy to me, but all our guns are registrated and we are not allowed to carry....sux.

Chris Marchi

I think if I’m going 22lr, I’ll just get a 22 revolver.

Michael B warner

I'm with you Nutn the G44 is cool and all however it's like just 20 year's too late. My son and I just watched this together. On his 5th B-day I bought him a Tx22 he's nine now. After the review I asked him, so do you want me to trade your gun in for a new G44? I thought for sure he would say yes because he likes my to shoot my G27 he definitely surprised me. Here was his exact words I like that Glock 44 but my Thumper is way cooler. 🤣

The Nutnfancy Project

Been trying, real hard to find. I hope it's reliable but I have my doubts. Most KelTec pistols have issues until factory tuned.

The Nutnfancy Project

The Taurus TX22 as shown is also a great COption, we like it. Not as reliable as the Glock 44 however.

The Nutnfancy Project

That PPQ .22 is awesome. I didn't have the money so I didn't buy the review piece but I would have. Pairs up nicely with your PPQ for sure. Thanks for the great support through the years.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yep two big misses. Most other options have those; Glock needs to get with the times.

The Nutnfancy Project

Your 5 yr old son is wise! I would choose the TX22 over the Glock 44. We still like the G44 a lot (at least I do) but the 10 rd mag blows.

Michael B warner

Yah that 10 rnd mag and non treaded barrel is disappointing. He's been shooting that Tx22 for almost 5 years now. He turns 10 in May he wouldn't trade his gun in for anything.

Trevor

Yeah mine feeds everything so far will be paired with my AAC element 2 when it gets out of ATF jail I made a conjugal visit it’s a blast

DTP

Good luck. I was expecting the same but pretty much every review has been surprisingly positive given their reputation.

bcbrin

I'm with Doodle on this. G44 is solid, but way too late to the party to get excited. Especially since COVID-ammogeddon, my high value Ruger SR22 long-slide has so many rounds through it and still keeps chugging along.

Alex Scott

I'm thinking the TX 22 and p17 are probably better options for the money but the fact the all my holsters will work makes me want the g44. Plus 2nd kind of cool

Rick Grad

Another PPQ 22 fan, and I'm glad I have it now:) .22 ammo was just over 2 cents a year ago, and that was my buy point to stock up. I took my wife to the range today, had a blast with the PPQ 22 and M&P 15-22. Great video once again!

Outrider950

I just sold mine. It was met with a “meh” response in our household.

john milochis

I think I would rather have the keltec p17 it hold a higher magazine capacity and is half the price of the Glock

Chandler Theis

I have one. I'd take it over the glock any day

Shawn Kuse

I will stick with my Ruger 22/45!

William H

Scully only needs one shot, so that grip is fine.

William H

This seems like a neat .22 trainer. If I shot a Glock in .40 or .45, I'd probably want it.

Mike S

Still baffled that the G44 didn't come with a 15 round mag straight out of the gate. Guns like the TX22 or even the older Beretta M9-22 have 16/15 round mags in 22LR. I know there are people mentioning Keltec P-17 in the comments, but I'm still not sure how I feel about keltec's quality.

Casey Jones

Thanks for the review Nutn. Funny thing, I differed with you on the .22lr pistols on reliability, until literally this weekend. I was getting my hunting stands ready for deer season when I came across a 4ft timber rattler. I had my PPQ-22 on me. Now I’ve put about 400 rounds through this gun with zero jams. Here I am in a situation where I needed it to function and my 3rd shot jammed. I got it cleared and scored a head shot next. That cut my opinion of .22lr pistols down to size, lol. Glad it wasn’t a total dire situation. Great review, if I get another .22lr pistol the G44 will be the one I get. I agree with the talking points.

Tacticaldoodle

What kind of ammo? Seems like lots of the hi power stuff these days does alright. It's the perfect time for murphy's wrath, that's for sure.

Casey Jones

It was federal 40gr ball leadnose standard velocity. And that’s mostly what I’ve cycled through it. Now I haven’t cleaned the gun too, and that particular round might have been slightly underpowered and in combination those 2 factors may have induced the jam. But I’ve put Eley subsonics through it too with no issue. The jam was the next round missed the chamber and jack-knifed above the barrel. I had to drop the mag to clear it. But as soon as I cleared it, she went back to cycling with no issue. Overall I’m still very pleased with the PPQ-22, wouldn’t sell it and certainly would recommend it. But I’m certainly better informed on the risks of using range grade ammo in a critical application

William J. Kassab

Unless you were buying this for child as his/her “own” pistol, I don’t know why anyone would buy a 44 over an advantage arms conversion kit. Even for a child, buy them a full sized Glock 17/19, put the centerfire slide away till they’re of age, and give them their own pistol with the advantage arms slide installed. And then you have another centerfire Glock if WROL ever arrives. With how well the advantage arms kits run, I just don’t see a need for the 44. Now, advantage arms should study those Glock 44 Mags and put loading tabs on their mags. Loading the advantage arms mags sucks.

Another awesome review and very well done! Just followed you on Twitter (I

This gun is flying off the shelves in North Georgia. I wasn't interested in the Glock 44 at first, having already purchased a Taurus TX22 which is an absolute dream of a pistol. BUT there's a constant stream of new shooters out there , and a ton of them are senior ladies and even men, first time gun owners who finally realize they need to be able to have at least some protection on them or in their homes. and when I say seniors, I'm talking in their late sixties and seventies who have never fired a handgun before. They love this pistol, and I've been impressed with it in their lessons. no, I didn't tell them to go out and buy it. They showed up having already purchased it. I was pleasantly surprised with how well it worked, no problems, no failures to fire or eject. I say the G44 is not too late, it's just in time for a whole new generation of gun owners. (However, I still like my Taurus TX22 better.)

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

I mean again as you, TD, and everyone has said why just the ten round capacity that is lame. I'll probably pick one up after the hype dies down used :)

Mike

TX 22 all day but a great review. Also for the “Die Hard “ fans “That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. It doesn't show up on your airport X-ray machines here and it costs more than what you make in a month!”

Doug Scofield

Nutn, great minds think alike !! I absolutely love your selection of bug-out guns... and you have certainly reassured me of the wisdom in my choice of SHTF weaponry. While the ol' interweb is chock full of postings from keyboard Ninja's sitting in mom's basement, espousing the necessity of every GOOD bag being equipped with no less than three .338 Lapua long guns, I quietly packed a stainless Marlin Papoose and a S&W 622 in both my wife and my go-bags. You have the luxury of choosing almost any production weapons... and to now know that you too choose these platforms to ensure the survivability of your loved ones, ROCKS!!
