TD and I take it to the TNP Bunker to show you a confused AR10. This dude spent lots of money on this gun but in the end ended up with a boat anchor. And he sold it. That usually means he did not like what he ended up with! So we loan it from Gunnies and pick it apart.  You may be surprised at its accuracy too. There are some great additions on the gun but again overall it's confused and the builder got lost in his POU focus and wasted lots of money.

Here's some build components I recommend, guys ask me all the time:

What Not to Do with Your AR10 Build

I was just in Gunnies last weekend looking for a AR10. I always go to gunnies when I drive up north. Nobody has any ar10s in stock. Thanks for the review nutn!

Trevor

Will listen to this on the way home Nutn we need a “Roast me rifle” series of vids where are setups just get railed on it would be so funny

James Mabe

Al lase my vote mattered lol

IndianaBen

Been dying to see some AR-10 content. It’s a much different animal in a lot of ways. And not easy to build one light, but also shouldn’t go ultralight like you easily can with an AR-15. Also some different nuances with reliability and performance, they can be more finicky to get tuned in.

Tacticaldoodle

I think the top solution is a lightweight barrel with a carbon fiber sticker put over it, seems like half the car stuff does it these days. Those 1/32 FW-190's are around, there's one on the bay for about $100 which is an okay deal, usually they're a bit more. The days of this stuff in big box stores were pretty cool.

Gilbert Cuzdey Jr

I used to have that 190 when I was a kid, and a zero. Of course I broke them and they're gone now :(

TC Carstens

Who doesn't know who proof research is? That barrel is a very slim steel covered in carbon fiber. They're very high quality barrels with excellent characteristics. They don't build heat like non cf barrels. You get a super rigid barrel without the weight of a heavy profile steel barrel.

Moe Mansour

Excellent, got some entertainment for my lunch. Thanks for the video!

Pedro

This build to me says a PRS gas gun competition gun. 8 shots- 3 positions on X barricades- 90seconds at unknown distances. Proof is very popular in the PRS crowd.

Zak

Muzzle device looks like a Tactical Precision Mfg Titanium Full Port Muzzle Brake.

Guy Actual

I have built two .308s. A 18" SAPR and a 16" MBR. The 16" with a FN Light Weight barrel sports a PA 1-8 FFP PA optic mounted with a ATIBAL 30mm mount, 13" handguard. and lots of Light Weight parts. Unloaded it is almost ar-15 weight. I love it as its a great shooter, is plenty accurate. The 18" knows its roll as its meant for a LP/OP or short distance trips and with its Satern barrel and Rise 434 will shoot sub MOA using good ammo. Someday I'd like to take them both out to the desert to see how they run around the sand... But I have to wait for Ammo prices to come back down, or for the right powder to be come available to reload. (I don't want to eat into my reserves) :)

Aquanaut

I've purchased 5 firearms based on your reviews. Haven't been disappointed yet. I'd like to see some reviews on "subterranean" storage options in light of today's political climate.

Guy Actual

I used to love Mega Arms, and have several of their uppers and lowers. My local shop (Rifle Gear) used to get their "in House" uppers made by them. But, once Zev purchased them, I refused to buy them any more. They re-released the "Mega" uppers and lowers, but the ones I have seen are not of the same quality. I shed a tear when they were purchased. If you can find any of their forged uppers/lowers that are pre-zev, I highly recommend them as they are greatness. FYI, That rifle makes me dizzy to look at. The Proof barrel, while expensive and cool looking is REDICULOUSLY PRICED!! As is the MATN upper/lowers. And the real trump card to that rifle is running the 25rnd mag on top of it all. It amazes me that there is no Bipod on that rifle, or a Tripod adapter. The whole package is a really expensive nonsense rifle. (Lots of First Timer Mistakes). With those types of groups, I wonder if the barrel is properly torqued down. Such a sad result.

Jon Doe

+1 , total roast sesh. People would volunteer and then melt into michael scott from the office after it kicked off. Lol. Im not volunteering mine!

Jon Doe

My subterranean storage would be my lifeless body pressing it into the bloody dirt after they tried to take it. Its gonna kick off some time, might as well fight it as early as possible. If not now then when? If not me then who? And with that I'll probably die alone lol. Least I'll die free But hey..hopefully doesn't happen. Definitely not hastening the day.

NatvMan

I wish I would have never sold my PA10. At the start of COVID I needed 2 computers so my kids could do online school. Sold the gun and got 2 cheap computers

Rick Grad

I think this is a great video for 2021, as a lot more guys are forced to build due to new in box rifles not being as available. Bummer, no way this guy is a TNPer. I learned a lot from watching the 2016 "Best AR Build" video like 5 times before compiling my parts list for my first build. I think if the dude would have had some guidance, the rifle could have turned out great.

Kelly McClellan

Ha this was funny. I used to build guns. Now I just buy stuff from Daniel defense, colt, or BCM. I generally spend less on a factory rifle, and they are covered by warranty which is nice.

Christopher Scott

Timely! I’m just about to start on a couple of builds, I found your comments useful... thanks for the great, as usual, content.

Joshua Wilson

Fun review, thank you gentlemen. I am trying to avoid the news right now (my BP needs a break), and this added some much needed mirth.

Ben Wagner

I made the mistake of putting a heavy fluted 18” Ballistic Advantage barrel on my AR10 build. It turned the gun into a boat anchor. I swapped it for a Faxon Big Gunner lightweight barrel and it totally transformed the feel of the gun.

Ben Wagner

That pattern is AR10. The DPMS pattern has a radiused rear interface (like extended AR15), whereas AR10 has the straight diagonal line from the rear takedown pin.

Tacticaldoodle

I sometimes share particularly bad ones privately, not always something we can talk about because we all run a little something that seems dumb to someone else.

steve garrett

holy shat that scope is mounted way way too darn forward. usually the scope bell lines up at the back of the castle nut, on almost all my builds. unless the scope has some crazy eye relief differences.

The Nutnfancy Project

"The whole package is a really expensive nonsense rifle. (Lots of First Timer Mistakes)" BINGO. Another on target comment Guy A., thanks again

The Nutnfancy Project

Dang, that PA10 is such a win. Maybe you can score another one later. Grim availability on all this stuff and commie executive orders inbound though. I hope you're well Natv

The Nutnfancy Project

" I learned a lot from watching the 2016 "Best AR Build" video like 5 times before compiling my parts list for my first build" Very humbled to hear that, glad it was helpful. I think I'm going to do an AR Build video too soon. To be posted on UGET. Just a "this is how I do it" video.

The Nutnfancy Project

Indeed they are. Probly the best way to go, esp. the AR10. So many good ones out there.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yeah I'm not watching the news anymore at all and have not been for months. I'll watch a Salty Cracker episode here and there. It's all propaganda in the MSM so I checked out a long time ago.

Schmuckatelli

Loved the rail session on the build. It was very educational. Also looking forward to "Red Pilling Normies, Part 2" on UGETube. I keep checking over there to see if it's posted yet.

Lon N

Thanks for reminding me the old FAL isn't the heaviest 7.62 NATO capable rifle possible. ;-p Luv it,.. thanks guys

Brett B

Thanks for the laughs! Great review!

Jonathan-James

Enjoyed the AR10 review. Thanks Nutn and TD. After hearing the parts price tags, my purchase regrets seem so minuscule. And I got the gen2 PA10 just a before the Gen3 was released. The parts and lower to build the complete rifle was only 550. Lucky timing.

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

Heavy as hell, I couldn't carry it. Even for a SAPR way too heavy for me. Like I've said previously. If I need to reach out I have a 6.5 Grendel upper (PSA hah) that can do that (actually better) and it was MUCH MUCH cheaper. Free for you to test anytime Nutn :D

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

Rick, Best AR build is where I got a LOT of my information for my AR build which weighs just under 5 pounds 10 ounces. I did a few things differently, but generally all the data points came from that video. I'd love to know what your parts list was for your build Rick!

David

I have a POF ar di in 224 Valkyrie I could send to y’all for review. As far as I understand they don’t make them anymore.

Shane Mack CDH

Pretty sure thats a Fortis Manufacturing rail.

Rick Grad

Spikes upper/lower, Spikes T2 buffer/tube/spring, MFT stock, geissele G2s trigger, Wilson Combat Recon 18” mid length gas 1/8 twist fluted barrel, Wilson Combat BCG, wilson combat tube and block,15” BCM Alpha rail, Leupold 3x9 Patrol in a Aero mount.

Sheepdog

Nutn: "When was the last time we saw a clip with this much personality?..... I would say probably NEVER". Exactly what I was thinking when Nutn said it.

Lon N

6.5 Grendel rocks.

Maplebrew

Finally we see some Nutm potty mouth: “Are you F’n shutting me 26 ounces”

Tacticaldoodle

Oddly the thing I see a lot is super fancy, angular receivers a lot. Guys seem to go a little more premium when they build the 10's, and I guess having some space age lookin' thing does it for them. They look cool, but I like getting ambi capability with it if I'm bringing spare metal like that.

Schmuckatelli

Thanks for posting it! You da man!!! Hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of sharing the link to the video to several large groups on Gab. Hope to see the views start jumping soon.

Galen C Cook

The POU was actually to confound the Nutnfancy clan, and create a rant that would restore order to the galaxy, give peace to patreon subscribers through quality content generation.... and ye refocus us all in our own systems development....Thus fulfilling the prophecy of "The One," who would bring balance to the 2 kinds of cool .

Craig

Damn it! It’s just better when doodle is on the show.

Kyle Soucy

I think that rail is Fortis and the mag release is Odin Works. I’m really surprised that barrel didn’t shoot better!

Chris carr

I was hoping to hear about 6mm arc being the “game changer” 😂😂😂. Jk waiting for that review and even if it is a coupe years. I’m over being on top of the latest fashion tactical kardashian elitists.

Cheesewell

I want a FNH FNAR, 20 inch. Probably not the best option, but I feel like it'll make me happy.

ThisWe'llDefend

How about a 5.9 lb AR 10 build? No need to build one because POF has already, The POF Rogue. TNP should review one. It would make a great contrast to this boat anchor.

The Nutnfancy Project

".Thus fulfilling the prophecy of "The One," who would bringing balance to the 2 kinds of cool ." OMGosh, so funny! Thanks for the good laugh. He achieved his goal then.

ThisWe'llDefend

I did. We had some exchange back and forth about it in PM. That was back in November and you stopped responding. I wasn't sure if you got one someplace else or were just sick with Covid and had more important things to worry about at the time. Hit me up if you're still interested.

Phake A'Count

So, it's a really expensive long range bench-rest gun with an inexplicable light weight barrel.

CDK

I think the Christensen barrels like that are only rated to around 800 - 1200 rounds because the stainless barrel is so thin.

Robert Ring

Wont load for me. says set to private?

Dustin T Goettsch

What you're missing with the UBR stock... You guys wouldn't know, but many collapsible stocks bite whiskers between the top of the stock and buffer tube. UBR or fixed stocks are my only known options to avoid this.

Dustin T Goettsch

It's funny, I did this exact same thing. 6.5cm AR-10 that weighed 13lbs. No thought into the POU. I ended up wanting to use for PRS but was too light for that and too much $ to back track one way or the other.

Andrew Maynes

I’m almost afraid to weigh my build now... lol

sean

Reviewing bad builds makes for great content. Your commentary on POU is so right on, not only for this particular build, but I think it applies to modern builds that trend towards doing many things ok but nothing well. Optics, illumination, barrel length, bullet weight, accuracy and total weight should be heavily influenced by your POU and environment. I see tons of generic 8 to 9lb AR LPVO builds, but very few purpose built short / lightweight CQB style ARs or medium weight SPRs with optimized optic, ammo and accessory selections.

Trevor K

not sure if someone said already but that 190D was painted like that as a fighter protection for the Me-262s while they would take off and land. the red was so their AAA would not shoot them down. the reason they had to protect the 262 was it took so long to get off the ground and stuff. one American i think in a P-51 killed two 262s before they could get them in the air. Mosquitos and blackwidows i guess at the time 45' would just roam around and tear shit up also. They never had a chance.

Mothball556

Nutn show us the 21st century toys P51 and P47.

Chris Fischer

Glad you said it! I have an AR-15 that's 11.5 pounds. Built it to be a bench rest rifle for ultimate accuracy. Shoots .5-.75 MOA with hand loads. LOVE IT!

Andrettski

So far, all 4 of my personal builds are on Aero Pre. upper/lower receivers. Best quality for the money IMO. My 4th isn't finished yet but it ain't gonna be light. Will be strictly a table/bench shooter, 20" BCM SS barrel, Magpul PRS Gen 3 stock w/bipod and haven't chosen the glass yet. Hopefully the bench won't be over 35 yards from the truck.

The Nutnfancy Project

M&P10 is for me a go to AR10...still. I will check out that database, thanks for that!

The Nutnfancy Project

" Optics, illumination, barrel length, bullet weight, accuracy and total weight should be heavily influenced by your POU and environment." Thanks for that excellent summary and indeed it's spot on. It's probable you can't do everything with one build. Decide what's most important, for instance lightweight, and stay laser beam focused on it. It may mean it won't be the most accurate but you are most likely to have it with you when the commie zombies come.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yes that it what the paint job is used for. That use is annotated clearly in the video: ME262 airfield defense. I had found that out later in some research. Thanks!

The Nutnfancy Project

There ya go: for ultimate accuracy weight is a good thing. For bench resting and light hiking, I would accept a heavy AR10. This guy made the mistake of mixing LW and HW components.

Leonidas King

What ar10 are you looking for? I just dropped off my smith and Wesson m&p 10 performance center to my FFL, I’m going to post it to gunbroker

Cz-Bundy

I'm looking for a m&p.

Cz-Bundy

How much you asking?

Randall

F on handguard is Fortis MFG

Tacticaldoodle

Honestly, I can't believe no one's ever put a cooler roll mark imitating the Colt horse. Just having like, even a funky thing like a Sambok or deer would look rad from a distance, and people pay a ton for the marks. That A is cool, but old school filled in stuff just does it for me. Most all my recievers are PSA/Aero.

Andrettski

TD, you started me on posca pens for filling in the marks. I get SO many good comments from everyone out shooting. I refuse to do it to my Colt M4 and all my classic/historical guns though. I'm in limbo on doing it to any of my handguns. I did like it on your Walther PPQ that you have. Thanks for the feedback.

Chris

Awsome content!!! Love seeing doodle. You guys have a great dynamic together.

Daniel Herb

haha that was a fun video, thanks guys

Tom

Just became a Patreon member and supporter after seeing what YouTube is doing to many good content creators. Been watching you for years - first question and (no I don’t own a rifle, just handguns & shotguns) - Is the Sig 716 Gen 2 you reference in the video the same thing as the new Sig 716i the Indian Army has adopted? I have no clue and hope this isn’t a dumb question - if so I’ll try better in the future 😉
