Essentially a Winchester 1300, we tested the FN P12 shotgun. It hasn't lasted in the market place for some reason so in terms of market place it was a fail. BUT it still had the xlnt rotary bolt of the 1300/SXP series so that meant it was fast and reliable.

It's a shame that it's not around because it really just needed a few tweaks to achieve the same heralded status of the Winchester 1300. Tactical Doodle and I do this shotgun review and he brings his normal silliness. We'll talk about high end mountain bikes and plate carriers too here. But we get down to business and give the low down on an FN product that should still be made.

FN P12 Shotgun: Didn't Last

Comments

David Gaines

You’ve had me pining for a 1300 for years. I have kept my eye out for one. No luck so far...

Pedro

Love Full squish mountain bikes. They carve so hard on the roughest stuff. Plus new trail bikes do so much. Can’t wait to watch the video

Nathan P Hubsch

Bought an SLP after you reviewed it Nutn. I love it, but it needed loctite. Stock was coming loose, sight rail was coming loose. I don't understand why these companies don't use loctite

Gilbert Cuzdey Jr

I had a 1300 for a bit. Recently sold it sadly because it was shooting crazy high. Ended up getting a 590.

Adam Boyd

That review stinks 💩 😅🤣😅 I give TD's participation 5 turds on the stinkability scale.

Bernal

=Mtn. Bike Trail (Location)= -Soquel Demonstration Forest -Braille Trail.

Bernal

Maybe a good headlamp is a better shot gun option than a mounted ligh.

Lon N

Note for TD: If you fart like that on a first date etiquette demands you light it on fire - If she brings her own lighter for the 2nd date...you got a winner. Always in for a GRV, thanks gentlemen.

Todd Strelka

I think that's a FN nice shotgun. Sorry I couldn't resist.

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

THANK YOU FOR TACTICALLY SQUARE AWARE REFERENCE PHYSICAL FITNESS!!!! Also TD keep laughing and making your dad laugh. I love y'alls interactions More plate carrier reviews please. I do own the condor and a spare for the gf. Would like to know what other options there are. :-)

Andrettski

Shotties are just good damn fun. Been eyeballing those Mossberg 940 JM PRO models because I like semi-autos. I might consider the Turkish Winchester for a steal but it still is only 4+1 in the pump.

Joshua Pulliam

TD mentioned the Magpul furniture for Mossbergs and Remingtons. I’d love to know y’all’s opinion on them. If it’s worth it to switch out the factory stuff or just keep rockin’ it. Also I’m sorely lacking in the tac shotgun area. I’ve got a Mossberg 500 that came with a hunting barrel and an 18 inch barrel. It’s still completely stock.

Ben H.

I have maverick 88 18in barrel. I have no experience with shotgun accessories but I'd keep it simple. Weapon light, side saddle and or sling with shell holder and tube extension.

Nate G

Love the shotty reviews. Have you seen the Tristar compact tactical? Its a Saiga action, bullpup 12g. Also, different topic, if you're able to get one, it'd be cool to see a review of the Ruger AR556 pistol.

Ryan Reese

+1 on the fitness. I was “watching” this while I was running. It’s about 40° and I wasn’t very motivated until he mentioned that. BTW the Gfire vests are down to $62 on Amazon! Sounds like Nutn paid $80.

Ryan Reese

Ben’s right with the simple mods. The Magpul furniture is really cool but for the price it doesn’t add much capability. I’d still consider the 500 a “tactical shotgun” just do what make you more proficient first.

Jason Boyles

For anyone that has never seen a breakdown on a winchester 1300, be prepared for the easiest, simplest, most uneventful (in a good way) teardown ever! It was my first shotgun and I was lucky enough to reaquire one a few years ago. After messing with my friends 500's and 870's, I have no desire to own those guns. Lol

Joshua Pulliam

That’s been my hesitation with the Magpul stuff for it. Looks cool, but what’s on there works. I did get the backpacker stock for my 10/22. It has definitely been worth it. Other than that I’m really only wanting to add a sidesaddle and a pic rail for a light.

STLParkRanger13 (IG: Sharpshooterjon)

I have an FN P12 and I absolutely love it. They do get slicker with use, and the action bars love a little gun grease during break-in. I'm actually working to get it approved for use as a personally-owned long gun for use on patrol. The capacity issue isn't a big one for me; most of the area PDs issue shotguns - mostly 870s - with a 5-shot magazine tube in this area.

The thought often appears to acquire a shotgun, but motivation tends to be tempered by frugal pragmatism. Shotguns have a mythos of unassailable reliability and durability. In reality they can be short shucked under stress and are always rounds limited. The frugal angel on my shoulder always wins. They look cool while often being left in the corner for more capable long guns. TD is enjoyable addition. Thank you for the continued effort and dedication.

"Suppprt the farts and GRVs as a donor." Classic! TDs laugh is infectious (much like Covid, the flu, and socialism). The difference is laughing is a good thing.

Schmuckatelli

gunbroker.com The prices are starting to come down from where they were a year ago.

Schmuckatelli

Mountain biking is a great way to get in and stay in good shape. Bikepacking is also a great way to lighten your backpacking gear and eliminate unnecessary gear as well as test new ultra-light gear (camp stoves, tents, sleeping systems, etc)

Pedro

Absolutely. It’s great cardio and endurance training without beating up your knees. I’ve integrated a road bike to the system for health and ability. When cars are down, roads clogged and fuel scarce. It’s time to bust out the bike.

Pedro

Wouldn’t go that far. Having shot both stoger-franchi-benelli there is definitely something to be said for Italian shotguns. Stoger is great but the fit and finish is better on franchi and benelli but more $$

Craig

I remember the rusty marlin rifle!! You mentioned it in a previous video

Phillip Robinette McKracken

I'm in the group that considers that a vest may be required to engage in shopping for groceries in the near future. Good point. Also for gardening in the spring. And the summer horking season. (Large armored bodies, creating a new master race, and swimming without swim suits. Possibly while watching NASCAR.) I'll take an 870 dude. Thanks turdical doodle.

hoplite ⚔️

Man I want a semi auto shotgun. I think I’d go 930 as well. “Bamp bamp bamp bamp bamp - chk chk - bamp bamp. Fight’s over”. Benelli SuperNova was my first FA. I got to get to the range again!

Bravo

The gun that was referenced fro rusting out at around 11 mins in has to be the marlin. Not a shotgun- check, big name company- check, tactical orientation- check. Confirmed it has to be the marlin!?!?

Andrettski

Those Supernovas seem like a great buy? Did you or can you put a 2-5 round extension on it? And yes, more range time please. It keeps getting more difficult to get people out because of schedules and these crazy ammo $$'s. Shooting alone isn't much fun, at least for me.

The Nutnfancy Project

That's correct. The Win 1300 very easy to takedown. Still my fave pump shotgun of all time.

Joshua Pulliam

Thanks Nutn! I have no idea how I missed that vid!

Bernal

Headlamp = Stupid Idea.

Bernal

Scope mount? Is that what guys are using?

Robert Avery

As always, really enjoyed the review fellas. Still anxiously awaiting the Titan one. 🙏

Tacticaldoodle

I put the forend on my 500, had a folding "recoil reducing" wire stock for a bit, but it's back to the stock one now. The forend adds a lot, the rear, well, I like them a lot, but not $100 since the normal one fits me well enough. If I needed shorter/longer LOP and sling attachment points then it would be more attractive

Tacticaldoodle

Yeah I'm the same when people want to buy into them for beginners and wives. We've shot with normal, gun toting dudes a lot and even they short stroke from trying to show off on camera. I wouldn't feel comfy depending on one myself if I haven't practiced a LOT to the point where the muscle memory is firm, much less a wife who doesn't even care about shooting to begin with.

Tacticaldoodle

I kinda wanna buy one, I have a few saiga mags but nothing to run them!

Tacticaldoodle

yup, happened last year. Hopefully Ruger squares them away!

Bravo

@Tacticaldoodle Eay doodle it’s cool to get a reply from you. Love you in the vids it’s neat to have someone with a different Philosophy from nutn but still got some really solid points. Hope your doing good. And yes hope they get their crap together that’s unacceptable from marlin

Nate G

They're definitely inexpensive, for the type.

Eric Ohme

That was hilarious! I have the same affliction as Doodle!
