This is a highly touted, at least by themselves, military watch with an NSN number. But it's very expensive and it's still a quartz movement. Worth it?~! We'll see.

The Marathon stuff looks kinda cool, but it's a little too pricey for me these days. I always thought it seemed like the ideal unit requisition piece, something mil-enough to show up on the NSN order sheet for end of year budget burning. It's got all the style in place though, definitely far more usable than something like a submariner at depth. I'll never get used to their tiny lume across the board, seems like you'd never see anything down there with silt billowing up.

I had that old General purpose hand wind model, it's died after years of faithful service. It will run for about three seconds and stop every time I move it, but uh......its plastic body is totally sealed, so I guess it's just a very militarian swatch. Made in1990, so it had a good run. That's two that have died on me, your original quartz one got smashed against a door jam in 4th grade and blew tritium vials all over the ground. You could see them with the lights off, which was cool.

I also have that Swiss Army knife too, goes along with my boker auto

I have been so tempted to pick up a marathon. in my case a GSAR. of course with the automatic movement. just picked up a deep blue commander, its satisfied my new watch fix for a while. Marathons aren't in any store I know of. kinda hard to spend that much on something I can't look at before.

David and Elizabeth

We love the Marathon SAR automatic line! A great daily!!!Unfortunately their prices (like everything else) have increased significantly over recent years. Sure, a Marathon is way more expensive than say a Casio. But they drip with 2nd cool!!! 😎😍

Not sure if "1st Cool/2nd Cool" is a registered trademark, but it probably should be. Such a perfect way of describing our purchases. I'm constantly juggling the two. Thank you Nutn!

Hold Fast Joe

It looks great! I like it a lot! Its outside my payroll but hey, very fun to look at

Hold Fast Joe

Thumbs up on the crkt bombastic! I like it as much as the watch lol

$900 for a Quartz watch??? NEVER! There...I said it. Paused the video when you mentioned the Wenger Roadsters were discontinued and jumped on eBay. I bought 2 used Roadsters. A Black Knight for $80 (does not have that awesome strap that yours does) and a black/orange without a strap for $40.

Ryan Reese

I will say that I’m please that the most expensive WRV is a Marathon and not a Rolex or something. Any of us that tear through watch searches on Amazon have seen a lot of Marathons. They check a lot of boxes for a cool, technical watch. I’m sure that we’ll all complain about the price but big thanks for making the video!

maxmfs

Too much for what it is, in my opinion. Spend the money on a Seiko ProSpex Turtle instead. Way more value for the price. I’d also steer folks towards the CountyComm Maratac watches. Nutn’, you should check those out, if you haven’t already.

I will say my dirt cheap deep blue has won my accuracy testing lately, beating out way, way better stuff. It's something in the neighborhood of +4.6 sec/day, IIRC. One swiss ETA has gone from an initial +1sec to about +31 in the last year. :/

steve garrett

the deep blue commander I bought has been about +10 seconds for the entire month of wearing!!! if you see a big swing in accuracy it might be magnetism. that is what Chris from frankhuaser suspects first, he adjusted my sallita based davosa to run within a handful of seconds over 30 days.

Bernal

After I heard the price of that watch, I was staring at that Swiss Army knife the whole time.

Schmuckatelli

Yeah...for the price of that watch you can buy a Smith & Wesson M&P-15, a couple of boxes of 5.56, shoot a communist, steal his watch, and still come out several hundred dollars ahead of the guy that bought the Marathon...and there'd be one less communist.

Todd Strelka

You have good taste in watches too review. Fancy!

Jesse (Sphinx)

Price is relative. I’ve paid more for a quartz (RESCO RTAC) and wanted auto but they stopped offering the ETA in that model because the GMT complication makes it too fragile apparently. The Resco folks actually asked me about my lifestyle and recommended quartz over auto anyway since apparently lots of activities involving recoil aren’t good for autos. I like this Marathon a lot, but for all that bulk I want more effective face. Chapter ring kills it for me somewhat. Looking at it next to that Deep Blue you brought in really underscores that difference. Great review—thanks!

They are cool. I’ve scoped them before.

hoplite ⚔️

Totally agree. Fitting for TNP. I’ve looked at them many times. The white dial Arctic GSAR is super nice. Here is a cool cheap Casio (love Casio) that has got to be the most affordable modern day field watch. Nutn reviewed the smaller MRW-200 favorably. This is the big brother. $29 https://www.amazon.com/Casio-Quartz-Nylon-Strap-Casual/dp/B08SSRZDNT/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=1MZE00AMTCCUZ&keywords=mrw-210hb&qid=1639018206&sprefix=mrw-210%2Caps%2C80&sr=8-4 There is a white dial version and one with an OD case. I asked the elves to whip one up for Xmas..

Jeremy doblinger

That S2r in purple is fricking sick dude!! I use mine alot maybe 10 to 30 times a day legit.. inspecting welds or different things I'm building or working on..best light hands down..bought on your recommendation of coarse.. I switched from a streamlight stylus pro..what up TNP!!

Ryan Reese

Good call, thanks. I should get a few to play with. The OD one looks good and I love the larger hands. I have 4 MRW-200’s 😬. The whole movement/dial fits right into an MDV-106 case so bought a couple more to swap them in and out. I’ll post come pics sometime. Check it out though.

hamilton khaki field watch automatic review please all around the watch that gets the most wrist time!

Ryan Reese

Check out DLTtrading.com they have all of those exclusive SAK’s. I highly recommend the Hiker. Perfect tool set and size.

Downtrodden

A Marathon automatic GSAR with tritium was at the top of my list when I started getting into watches. I’ve pulled back when thinking about long-term ownership. Replacing those tubes are going to be more costly than a typical service. The JSAR makes a little more sense for the long term despite my love of automatics.

Downtrodden

Commandeering a Komandirskie from a Commie wouldn’t be worth the effort involved.

Hold Fast Joe

I am pretty sure he had one once and it broke if I remember right

hoplite ⚔️

Oh man, I forgot those can be swapped out. I saw it once or twice when checking out MDV mods on the net. Would be cool to get a yellow or orange dial MDV. I know there are a lot of flavors of the 200. Would be cool to see your versions. Have you seen the new green bezel MDV? I think I need one..

hoplite ⚔️

Would be cool to have one in purple! S1R for daily edc S2R for work edc i3T for formal dress M2R in LBE Want to get a Warrior Mini for traveling when things like knives are restricted. Have to pick up a giant package from Olight from the post office. Obulbs for everyone this Xmas!

Ryan Reese

Yeah, the green one looks cool but I like the blue or Pepsi ones still.

Galen C Cook

I've got a TSAR that I went crawling into lava tubes at snow canyon in Utah... The watch is a TANK. I know cheaper watches could have held up just as well, but I felt like a bad ass wearing it and watching the glow of the tritium tubes in the dark. In the end, 2nd kind of cool won and and it makes me smile.

Alex Dodez

"he asked me not to bend his catalogue" -as Nutnfancy proceeds to bend the shit out of his catalogue..HAHA

Daniel Herb

Still recovering from my last watch purchase..... next time though lol.

Jayson Fraser

The “qualified yes” seems spot on. It’s an exceptionally cool watch. I’d love to have one. But it’s one glaring flaw is the price. For some people that’s a non-issue, but for most of us it’s a big deal.

Logan Holmberg

If you can rock a Gshock its not that thick. I've been contemplating one of these since it's a Canadian company and I love military watches. But you're right about the price though. If I can find one on sale I'm definitely in the market for one. Also If it was Solar I'd just buy it but being just quartz its defiantly I got to find a deal first. I don't mind too much that its quartz cause the Autos are unubtanium for me at those prices.
