Taking influence from the Spanish Navaja, the Strata, especially the XL, is impressive. Slender, fast into action, and well built, the Strata belies its relatively low price. It's one of the few American factory Big knives that you can get. Others discussed a bit and one fave is shown. I'll talk to its defensive capabilities and you'll see the cutting test results! Both versions are recommended, see below.

Kershaw Strata XL: Navaja Defender

Nathan P Hubsch

That's my Strata, but it's not the XL, it's the regular.

Pace Shelton

Reminds me more of the Cold Steel Espada, than the Luzon. But the Espada is much much more expensive.

David Goodridge

I wonder do you feel sexy in skintight wetsuit? Sorry couldn’t help it

Nathan P Hubsch

It reminded me of the Cold Steel Espada, but for way less money. I love the lightweight of it and how slender it is, been using it as a large EDC blade and paired it with the Bestech Lizard.

Nathan P Hubsch

Think the Espada's went up in value too, never bought one, but I kinda want one now.

Metal-Militia

Love these XL blades. Love them since Rajah II & Navaja. You can't see it to well in my profile photo but I'm sporting a FDE Rajah II in the field. Practice my brothers.

Joshua Mount

Cold steel broken skull bro. I'm not the world's biggest fan of cold steel but that knife is easily pocketable for the size/weight and it is a quite formidable defensive blade. I've personally never had a problem the thin handle ergo's but obviously never needed to use it against a bad guy trying to mug me either. Solid blade and solid price tag. In my childhood when wresting was popular stone cold Steve Austin was my favorite. Ever since he got beat up in the bathroom while peeing and went away in the ambulance only to drive the ambulance back into the ring later on while drinking a coors light. I absolutely don't condone drinking and driving but that was incredible when its like 1998 your 13 years old.

Hey Nutn’! Didn’t you know? Fighting knives aren’t tested on cardboard! They’re supposed to be tested by cutting the new 511 Commando Kilt into tiny little pieces🤣

William P Rizer

Heads up to anyone looking for thermal capability. The Flir Scout is on sale for 425 on amazon.

Mark MacBayne

The Strata looks sick, but I gotta go with the Luzon. I got the XL and while it is ridiculous in size for a folding blade, it does fit in the pocket of jeans and I do carry it. Not all the time, but it was on me today paired with a CRKT CEO. How's that for size extremes? What can I say, it makes me happy. My boys got me the CEO for Father's day a couple of years back, so it is a fav, but back to the Strata, I might just have to add it to the list because it looks so cool.

Todd Strelka

Great review. Ha, I thought that knife was bigger at first until the Luzon was out on the table. When I first saw the Strata I thought it was similar in shape to the Cold Steel Espada, also a Spanish design.

Yum. Looking forward to an XL blade review. The XL CS Voyager makes me happy when I open up the armoire…

Paul Kwiatkowski

Pry me a river…fun review Nutn … the Momentum Smokejumper is my daily wear, great watch.

maxmfs

Seiko Turtle in the house, and representing! Outstanding! Oh, and I liked the knife review too.

DuginIN

Halfway through your KRV I thought of the Luzon. I have the large in a drawer by my recliner and was playing with it when it was shown in the video. BTW E PLURIBUS UNUM. 👍

Schmuckatelli

It wasn't until you whipped out the Large Luzon that I realized this was a KRV and not a challenge coin review.

Schmuckatelli

Thanks for sharing your watch so that the rest of us can enjoy the review.

Plumber Angelo

Great KRV! It’s definitely a funky looking blade! I thought about buying it when it was released but decided to pass.

Moe Mansour

I actually bought this on my own volition before the video posted. That might be a first 😆 I found the bead blasted D2 corrodes very easily. Mine pitted just from finger prints.

Moe Mansour

Nutn' tested the RAT 1 on carboard. Remember "The Stabbing Protocol"? I believe he posted that video in about 1992.

Bernal

No. But I do remember eating dangerous amounts of breakfast cereal and watching Married with Children circa 1992, mostly just watching Kelly though.

Brad Fegan

Is a neat looking knife. May pick one up but, I just this week purchased a Cold Steel Voyager xl Vaquero blade. Looking to get a Cold Steel Rajah ii next.

Ol Retired Fed

So you convinced me it was time to order a Cold Steel Luzon in the large blade. They are still available on Amazon for $42. Been putting it off for ever. Sorry but the Strata just didn't cut it for me.

Joshua Pulliam

I love my CEO. I don’t carry it very often though. I scored mine at Bass Pro for 15 bucks! It was hanging in the wrong spot. I was going to buy it anyway that day. After I told them it had been displayed with the wrong spot they insisted on selling it to me for that price. Even after I tried to pay full price!

Joshua Pulliam

This may have put me over the edge on ordering a Kris Voyager. . .

Brad Fegan

That's a cool knife too. Good blade length. I am on the path now of the longer the better as a defensive knife.

J Ram

Hey Colonel....can you provide a link to the silver coin on the bottom right of the table top...I believe I would like to buy a couple of those...... 😂

hoplite ⚔️

I remember handling one at my local Army Navy. It was awesome. And it reminds me of the CS Frenzy which is diabolical.

hoplite ⚔️

I’ve wanted a Rajah 2 for a while. Good call.

hoplite ⚔️

Thanks for sharing your watch addiction!

hoplite ⚔️

I watched the Stabbing Protocol vid not that long ago. That vintage TNP.

hoplite ⚔️

The Strata picked my interest when it came out but I decided to pass as well. Fun review. Love the XL blade content. Freaking Luzon doesn’t even fit on the screen. Comical.

TechNeck

Mmmmm D2 steel... so good

Brandon Hutchins

Your knife videos always cost me money for a new knife! That Luzon is a must have!

Paul Griech

i noticed there’s 4.5 in blade and the larger xl i think i would like the smaller knife

Derek W Tiller

"general lock bar" always puts a smile on my face.

Blizzak454

I edc my 5.5" talwar everyday. Yes it gets a dedicated pocket and its factory edge has never touched another object, but the pocket sword is always at the ready.

Foxhound

Everybody reckon it's Cold Steel this and that but all I'm feeling is Emerson Gypsy Jack vibes.
