At its heart TNP's Red Skies is about showing how difficult SAWC can be in a self-contained man portable tactical system. SAWC is a key concept in my reviews and I preach "lighten everything." It's good to hit the field in a tactical backpacking multi-day adventure to reinforce the credibility on the concept. And many TNPrs have been waiting for another RS to happen; it's been 10 years!

Stalwart crew members Sean the TNPr and Jardine are in on this one. They are hard working, never complaining dudes that help make this whole thing a reality. You'll see us gearing up, talking guns, putting a boulder in Sean's pack (yes really), and  hiking in long range 80 lb steel targets. After all that THEN we start the actual Red Skies hike in and engagements. We camp that night at our location. Along the way we're engaging natural targets  and there's lots. Hiking in heavy loads (at least Sean and I!) gets the heart pumping so the shooting is slightly stressed. Usually we'd dump our packs but putting them on again was so much work I dispensed with this. Our area, scouted out on the KTM 890, is remote and we are the only ones out there...ahhh the bliss.

I carry the heavy hitting S&W M&P10 7.62x51mm SAPR https://youtu.be/-JPnPFp2G44. As I say in the AR10 reviews I'll always opt for a .308 SAPR if I can take the weight. The other fellas go with a ".223 pop guns" that are cute and easily to carry...ha ha (kidding). Of course the curse of the desert makes a strange appearance in this Part 1 and I'm mortaring the M&P10. Once past that it's smooth sailing as we engage, with fully loaded backpacks, targets out to 400 yds.

This is the "actual" part of RS22 so lots of hiking work is shown should there be any doubt the hike in actually happened! Music captures the moods and an old school Dudio song kicks off the synopsis.

Doug McGilvery

I love your Channel Brother! Just another reason why I am a Very Proud Patreon Member!

Aaron Carrington

I cannot believe you made Sean hump that rock!😂🤣😂 Can’t wait for part 2, LtCol.!

Cz-Bundy

I will be up at my camper this weekend doing the same thing. Can't wait. Problem is I will be the only one setting up lol. About 8000 feet. Around Little creek peak in iron county . Just up the canyon from my house. Thanks for all you do nutn. You have motivated me the last couple years to get out and move. Not just sit and lay down at my regular shooting spot. Appreciate all of it!

Todd Strelka

Absolutely epic adventure and scenery! Love this! Worth staying up late to watch it.

The Nutnfancy Project

You're welcome. You places sounds xlnt. It is important to indeed Get Out and test everything, esp. yourself. There's got to be someone cool in your neck of the woods that would enjoy the same adventure. I bet you can find someone.

The Nutnfancy Project

Good ole military sense of humor...I did these with some of my squadron dudes back in the day. One was a super cool Navigator named Jeff Grice. I had him haul a 20 lb boulder in his duffle from England to Souda Bay, Crete. I had a reputation.

Am I the only one hoping for the M1A to make a surprise return? Fingers crossed!

Paul Griech

a lot of heavy breathing going on !!! looks amazing i’m jealous

Connor Murphy

Man, I'm tellin' you, for some of the music you should use Red Skies by The Fixx. It's the perfect song for this series. Great job, thanks for doing this. I remember original Red Skies like it was yesterday.

Brad Fegan

Even though a lot of work behind the scenes, it looks like you guys still had a good time. 👍

Dione Kollee

Epic 1st episode of RS! Can’t wait for Pt 2

Hold Fast Joe

Congrats getting it done! Thanks guys

Michael McAtee

I love it! I look forward to part 2!

David and Elizabeth

You boys are doin' it! You've gotta work hard to play hard.🤘 We love it. ❤❤

Dylan Campbell

These type videos are my FAVORITE!!!

Andrettski

Only watched to 17 min mark. Great introduction so far. My boys and I haul our steel gongs, t-posts and sledge hammer up through PAC NW doug fir clear-cuts(clear...MY ASS) they're full of bramble, tree limbs and wild mtn blackberry vines which love to snag your boots like a trip wire. Got busy crap today but I'll finish RED SKIES 2 later.

Dylan Campbell

I’ll always go back and re watch Red Skies and the Eat led , Valley of Death videos with Chad from keltec that’s top tier entertainment in my house !!!

Bernal

I just had a great Idea. Red Sky + mountain bikes.

BadgerTails

Testing the Teams, pushing the mettle, Thanks for all the great works again! Those little girly 5.56s need to check their muzzle brakes!? ;-)

Jay

Fun WOW, when there is no enemy shooting back at you!

Cory Risseeuw

Well that AR10 sucks. Tim Kennedy would make fun of your LARPing. lol

Cory Risseeuw

But in that terrain, similar to where I live in South Dakota, there is a lot of distance to walk. Ranges could be inside your house or 500 meter or more. Weight has to be a huge consideration as you have been talking about for years and probably a decade. Considering the weight of the 308 I think one of my next builds will be a light weight but accurate 6ARC. Of course there is the ammo supply issue so I will need to reload. I am also looking at expanding my pack game. Can you talk about your packs? Size capacity? What is your target weight for the pack?

Cory Risseeuw

Fitness is probably the most important prep. I need a SHIT TON of work on fitness. We don't have a desert in South Dakota but the distances can be a long ways and the hills larger than they look.

Cory Risseeuw

Also no suppressors. At least with this first one. Can you talk about why?

Joshua Pulliam

This looks like so much fun! I have a couple buddies from college that would probably do this with me, but we all live hours apart from each other. I’d love to do an adventure like this. Any TNPers living in SW Missouri interested in getting together? The rock in the pack is just pure gold! The music in this vid just rocks! Can’t wait for part two.

James Hood

Two words: Most Excellent!

Charles Steimle

DICKS!! What a bunch of dicks!! says my wife listening in the background on what you guys did to Shawn 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great adventure!!

Matthew Hargis

Awesome. Thanks for the work and sharing your adventures and lessons learned. I absolutely love the Dudio opening. That’s a taste of old school TNP. Of all the TNP music he is my fav and I still use his music to prep for my AF PT tests after 10 years. God Bless. -Sharkey

Chris Adkins

This is primo TNP content, thanks for putting this together and sharing it with us, Nutn. Really appreciate all the hard work you and the crew put into this. One question about your scope mount, didn't you used to have an Aero mount on your M&P 10? Why did you go with this one instead? Can't wait for Part 2, and if you have time a separate debrief video would be excellent!

Andrew Mullins

Feels like old school TNP. Loved the video, thanks.

The Hide

Awesome content! Feels like back to the roots of TNP! I really like you taking the MP10 Nutn that rifle flat gets it done!

Gilberto Esquivel

Nice footage. Gorgeous Valley. Maybe I failed to read the 'Red Sky's Brochure' but I fail to see the point in of all this Nutn? And for some weird reason I seem to feel more concerned about your knees than you do..(I want the project to last forever and that's harder to do if your old knees are banged up) But I feel like a giant vagina watching this. When I was in the Corps in training or 'goin hot'. What I'm here to tell you is even in the Pros We NEVER humped that heavy and our knees were 3 times younger than yall's...Our shit either came along in a humvee or tank...or not at all...What we did hump was a lot of ammo and our A.L.I.C.E. harness...what you guys look like to me are a big wet juicy target from 500 yards away with all that ninja turtle stuff on you...If you guys were enemy, It would have given me a giant boner (from my M-16A2's IRONS,...Optics were for STA Platoon snipers...) seeing a target like you guys that slow and that big back in the day...just saying.

David Elkins

Nutn, put a slang on that thang! To pick a nit I’d like to see you guys do quick tac reloads before holstering or slinging. That’s some beautiful desert for testing your gear. Thanks for the awesome video.

Casey Jones

I love it. The rock was fantastic. Boys being boys, if we can’t have fun then why we doing it? Sean, you’re a champ the way you took it. Great shooting, great scenery, great times. Well done, looking forward to part 2. In the meantime you’ve got me wanting to find a place I can do my own red skies testing.

Plumber Angelo

The point of all this is to 1. Have fun, 2. Test gear systems in a more fluid environment (desert curse style), 3. Have more fun! Nutn even says in the video that if they were trying to be super tactical, they wouldn’t be walking in a dry creek bed. They would be moving in darkness, moving through dense foliage etc. But I agree, great and entertaining footage!

Plumber Angelo

This is awesome and I can’t wait for part 2. Also the super rare ( If ever seen?) Nutnfancy F bomb @ 45:55. Sweeeeeeet!

Gilberto Esquivel

Hm? Lets see: 1. Sound carries at night and on a good night you can see shapes and forms on the battlefield moving 2. All this without considering the availability of modern and attainable NV's...In other words, this makes no sense...Unless the whole point is Larping through the beautiful back country then that is second cool, no issues with that...it's a free country.

Eric Kelley

Super awesome. But— Didn’t pick up brass?

Plumber Angelo

You’re 100% correct on the tactical applications of their movements and live fire engagements. It’s not super realistic (which is stated in the video), but more of a friendly, video digestible version of ironing out some gear systems. I think getting out in some Big country and hauling gear, while randomly engaging “enemy” bushes and rocks is worth something. If not just for our entertainment! We agree on a lot but it’s not that serious of a video.

Alex H

The Edgemont area would prove you wrong. If you've ever been to the southwest corner of the state it's nothing but sand grass sage and cactus.

Andrettski

Just up to the 'rock' in Sean's pack. Sheesh Nutn, Sean isn't an enlisted grunt, he's your bro. Well, it's been nice having Sean in TNP, he'll probably be waving the white flag to going on any more adventures. Hahaha.

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

Jardine, I'm 100% That's a KA BAR knife and I have the exact same one. If so how did you like it?

david rockwell

This outing was certainly enjoyable to view. One can hope the participants enjoyed the adventure as much. The effort expended to facilitate this trek is very much appreciated. A friend and I hike 7 miles every week with fifteen-pound packs at a State park. Unfortunately no open carry in the State park boundary. Thank you for the continued effort and dedication.

Matt

Can't wait for p2 Nut'n. Enjoy the content as always! Good to see the Canik is holding its own against the Sig and the Glock.

D Ren

Awesome but damn, so much extra weight!!

Mike R

Dang I knew the pic with the Barrett was too good to be true, you got us good, but not as bad as Sean got it. Lol

Aaron Walker

LOL!!! Sean was being a good sport but you know he was 2nd guessing this excursion. He just didn't want to sould like a pussy. You should have told him AFTER he unloaded his weapons! Lol. Also, good on ya for packing the 308, that's like bringing your own 15lb rock.

William H

Thanks for doing this guys. I'm not going to lie, I'll gladly take the data points without carrying the packs!

Sean

It was picked up. Even after miles of heavy hiking and shooting, we grabbed the shells and some extra garbage we found too. It’s not very exciting video so he doesn’t show it very often, but we try to clean up whatever we can when we are out.

Sean

Yeah, the goal of this outing isn’t tactical maneuvering. It’s more about carrying a man portable system with everything needed for a multi day outing with potential for defensive encounters. The system gets carried and used throughout the trip so that we can find out what works, what creates a problem, and what will fall victim to the curse of the desert. It takes a lot more time, money, and manpower to fight a full scale war, or even execute a single tactical strike/extraction. This is more like three clowns trying not to die in the desert on a budget. 😂

CincinnatiDan (Ohio)

25:25 muzzle discipline? And again at 46:42. Camera man has a dangerous job.

Erik

When did PSA put there logo on their AR uppers? I own PSA and no logo on the Upper. I would love this

RB

Surprised I haven’t seen primary arms ACSS reticles show up in TNP. Wind holds, ranging, and ballistic drops are built in. Point and shoot. Less need for dialing in.

Steve Feeser

Get video! Thanks! Multi tasking tonight. Watched or listened to this while weight lifting and primed 100 30-30 cases.

Powernoodle

Honestly, you would have to pay me $6,000 to do that. I'll keep my cable streaming, air conditioning and Golden Doodle. But watching someone else do it? Yeah, I'm good with that.
