I've tried so many flippers -- front, back, and end -- and have decided I'm just a thumbstud guy. I do have a couple Spydercos and a couple autos, but when I look for something new it's pretty much limited to thumb studs these days.

I don't like how they stick out into your pocket and can get in the way when trying to cut some things. I'm not entirely against it if its done well like the Plethiros, but I really dislike traditional flippers in most POUs and find myself carrying front flippers, button locks, or normal spydercos almost all the time.

Only one I have is that TNP honey badger lol and for the cost I like it a lot but honestly I much prefer my spyderco knives like my para 2 and I'll let my benchmade bugout have 2nd place. They're just faster and more intuitive for me all other features being equal.

Personally I don't own one they aren't practical for me. But there are some cool ones I've seen just haven't come across one yet that I would buy.

I have no hands on experience with one. I like a good ol' Spidy hole best or a thumb stud second best.

Pat McGroin

Most of my gear is flipper related. Including the Mrs. God bless science.

Chase Ferguson

Mostly thumb stud myself but I don’t hate flippers that are executed well.

Andrew Stutzman

Don't like most of them. They just don't seem to have strong locks. I like a strong lockup folder like Cold Steel in case of emergency defence POU.

Trent Thornton

I like them better than a regular flipper with the tab.

Joshua Pulliam

I have no experience with them at all. So I have not formed an opinion as of yet. I find myself carrying some flavor of Spyderco the most, followed by OTFs. I almost never carry knives with flippers or thumb studs.

Jordan Embry

Way over saturated in the market. I've got large hands and have no problem deploying but isn't as efficient or reliable as thumb studs or flipper tabs

Matt W Plank

I voted hate ‘em, but it is more of a why? I guess we are so spoiled with so many options that is easy for preferences to prejudice what could otherwise be a fine knife. It’s no doubt a training issue, as well, for me. I have so many autos and wave able knives, that I am biased against the type. But, that’s me…

Ezra Chambers

I prefer good manual thumb studs

Seeker Keyl

Never owned one. Used to really find them appealing, but that was probably linked to the fad several years ago. Practically I don't view the front flipper as any particular difference than other front folding knives in principle since you need to re adjust your grip anyway. Lock style is more of a deal make or break for me these days. I love the axis-style lock and I look forward to trying to compression lock soon.

Dean

Flippers tend to be liner locks. Although I have a few flippers, my preference is a button lock.

Dean

Emerson super karambit is a great self defense liner lock.

Clint Raby

I voted Hate-em, but it's more like I just don't see any reason for them to exist.

Mark MacBayne

Front flippers just never work well for me. I only have one and unless I see a knife I otherwise love, it will likely stay my only one. Now regular flipper, all good. That's probably my favorite deployment method.

Rick Grad

I have one, and I really love it because it was a gift. I don’t think I would seek one out myself.

RowdyRon

I like flippers, but own one, or maybe two. They're a design that's more critical due to the unique deployment, and they don't fit as many people's liking I'd assume. Thanks Nutn.

Patrick Richards

Never owned one, I like regular flippers a lot. Seems a little unnecessary and pointless to have a front flipper?

Desertrance

Love them use them one of the 3 I carry daily and its for opening boxes!!!

Pedro

If the rest of the knife is cool I’ll get a flipper. I do tend to prefer before then liner lock knives and auto over flippers.

Chris Lacher

Changed my op from "meh" to hate. Too easy to open inadvertently in a pocket.

Sootch00

I can't get used it them. I've tried a number of front flippers but it's always awkward. But maybe I'm awkward. : )

HappyFrancisMacomber

Hate em. Novelty. Try using A front flipper in gloves. Spydie hole 🕳 for life.

Andrettski

Never bought a front one because I'm sure I wouldn't like it. I like reg flippers and studs too, but need to be done right or they're a nuisance.

Keanu Alfaro

Cool in theory...but sort of makes me feel like a left hander using a right handed knife...no offense to you lefties out there <3

Gary Groeschke

Not a big fan a little unorthodox to use in my opinion, just for me i personally prefer a flipper, Spidey hole or a good ole thumb stud.

Paul Colburn

What is a front flipper knife?

Aaron Walker

I think 15% doesn't k ow what a front flipper is

Reinbeck_11

not my thing, my dexterial accuity, is simmilar to my spelling and my punctuation

Richard Leonard

I'm leaning towards a 4" fixed blade for EDC use on the weekend.

RB

It doesn’t matter

John K Regan

They're cool enough but I loathe when a knife design omits the thumb-stud in lieu of the flipper, as opposed to having both. They sacrifice 1st cool to enhance 2nd.

Joseph

Honestly don’t really care about them. Wish more knives had the Emerson wave. But sadly the spyderco’s I love most don’t offer that. Only the delica and endurance. Great knives, but I like the zero grind of the Tenacious or resilience. Sadly those are the China made spyderco’s would love to see those in VG10 love the G10. My absolute favorite material. Price point is great though. So ehhh I’m just happy with the spyder hole opener

Donald Gulbrandsen

Civivi imperium. Kinda unexpectedly fell in love with it. Great fidget factor with the thumb studs as well. Very smooth pivot. Good steel. Nice jade g10 handle Good price for the knife.
