Marc at Island Watch in NY does some really excellent self branded watches. This is one of them. I do think this is more of a field watch than an aviator but it doesn't matter; both of some of my fave styles and incorporate elements I like. For instance Seiko auto movements, sapphire crystals, great hands, great straps, and great lume. Some equally if not better competitive options are also shown!  Donor commenters on this WRV will be scrolled in an upcoming watch review btw!

I usually like a Type A dial more, but on some faces with certain configurations I prefer Type B. I love the Momentum Smokejumper, but for thus Islander I really like Type B.

Same here! I've recently got my 2nd AVI-8, they're freaking awesome! Love TNP Watch show.

I'm still hoping someone makes a field watch with tritium inserts that's solar powered with atomic time and accepts 20-22mm NATO straps. I'm ashamed to say how much I would pay for that. Basically the Casio WVA-M630B-3AJF but with tritium and a titanium case.

Looks like a cheaper version of the Laco Type B (which I love). Laco is still made in Germany but uses Miyota movements. I love my Laco, but I also like these for the price.

The Islander watches are a great value. They give you the things that you want and need in classic designs. The companies that offer similar watches stop just short IMO by not including sapphire crystals.

My kingdom for a 44mm version!

Mark's channel is really good, if anyone hasn't looked at it it's great! Islanders are pretty good. I haven't bought any but it has tempted me. Besides the deep blue for 99 I think most of mine have been eBay bargains or other second hand purchases. I find most go into a drawer and have little too no wear so why buy new?

I won't be able to watch the vid till I get home tonight. I've got the A dial version of this watch and there is a lot to like about it, but there's one minor and one major flaw. The minor is that the lugs are too short for my liking. I like to use Seiko diver spring bars with my NATO straps as they are built more robustly and rated to fail at something like 50 pounds. The lugs are about a millimeter or two too short to use the thicker spring bars with a NATO strap. The major flaw is the water resistance. The first example I got fogged up badly and had water droplets under the crystal after swimming in my backyard pool. (10' at its deepest point) And yes, I did have the crown screwed down. Marc was great on the warranty and swapped it out for me immediately. The second one I got on warranty also showed a slight fogging under the crystal after swimming in my pool and I have never gotten it wet since then. I didn't contact Marc about the second one, I just sucked it up and decided I'd never take it in the water again. Still works fine, and I'm sure it would be ok in the rain just not submerged. This was in April of 2021 so any manufacturing issues may be resolved and I may have just been particularly unlucky. I like Marc and wish him success so don't take this to be a super negative review. I just feel like it has to be said, and I would urge anyone buying one to take the leather strap off and submerge the watch right away so you know if you can trust it or if you have to warranty it.

Hey Nutn, I love your watch reviews! I never heard of AVI-8 watches until I watched one of your reviews. Now I own one! Keep it up!

I have the watch bug for a 5th that must be an auto. The Smokejumper is my favorite daily wear with the cool Type B blue-faced Glycine Airpilot GL0362 a big, shiny, heavy and very happy weekend warrior. Your efforts are appreciated.

You are correct with your watch review comments, yes, there are still a number of us (non smart watch) out here. Press ahead with your timepiece review work.

Love the watch vids, keep 'em coming!

I agree that the face is a bit too plain for me. That sizing though is perfect for me. I've got my eye out for a blue/red/yellow shinola duck to hit a sale or the used market. More than I want to pay for a new one. Still may have to sell a current piece to pay for it though.

Don't feel sorry for us. We know what we signed up for 😆

Keep the watch project rolling! Turned me on to deep blue and spinnaker, the collection keeps getting better every year.

Good feedback. Thanks! I’ve wanted the black a-dial silver case for a while.

I think I’ve seen those Shinola Ducks. They are super cool!

While I like the idea of a smart watch, I don't need yet another piece of tech with me all the time. I got a watch so I didn't have to check my phone all the time. It is unlikely I will be getting any smartwatch anytime soon...

I have the Smokejumper. The Fieldwaker auto has now caught my interest but it’s discontinued. Used on eBay $325.00.

Nice review … ps when is a TNP special edition watch coming ?! Yes please! 😂

I have the ISL 16 Pilot watch with the other type A style dial... for the price I couldn't pass it up, leather band is too thick for me tho....

I’ve been looking at these watches for a while and I like the idea of supporting Marc. Second cool flag 🚩I like the sterile dials.

Great review! My only hang up is no date! All the cool watches coming out since last year are dropping the date even if the movement supports it and I’m bummed! I’m not caving on my date necessity

I really like the B face green dial. It kind of reminds me of the AVI-8 Spitfire Type 300 AV-4037 which is also an automatic. It’s more expensive at $400 but has a clear case back with aviation inspired rotor, two bands (both a stainless bracelet and tan leather strap), and the date. Comes in olive green also and is available on Amazon. Definitely another option if your budget allows and you like the style. I found it to be a lot of value for the price.

Paul Kwiatkowski

I’m liking the idea of an automatic but not over $250. Thanks for the insight.

F-14 was Long Island built plane as well.

Love Marc and love islander watches

I'm not a field watch, aviator wacht guy, but there is no denying that is a high value, good looking line of watches.

These watches are really sharp! I had previously checked out the earlier his Islander Pilot watch, which also looked great, but was only 39mm I think. Seemed just a little too small for my wrist. These 42mm designs are an improvement imo. Found my next watch.

Johnny

Love a good field or aviator watch. I'm rocking a khaki pilot right now.
