It's different for sure. The Kimber R7 Mako is an enclosed slide design...not too many of those around. I'll ask the question as to why along the way; probably has something to do with setting it apart and making it "Kimber special."  A few surprises are in store; Jardine and Mrs Nutnfancy help me shoot the Mako (cool name btw).  The R7 has great ergos, lightweight, xlnt sights, good rounds capacity, and this version is red dot equipped (you TNPRs love that). Lots of fun shooting shown, I'll give you the bottom line on the Mako, and end with a colorful ocean testing video.

Light primer strikes with Blazer Brass is unacceptable. But Kimber will no doubt improve reliability as time goes on. They certainly won't lose money on this one. In the gun community, there are always plenty of people willing to overlook things like design features solving problems that don't exist, douchey marketing propaganda, premium asking price,...because they simply want something different.

Downtrodden

I was cheering for Kimber and you had me all the way up to Reliability. Someone will have the patience to smooth it out. I couldn’t get through a single mag on their Micro 9 without an issue. They always have the coolest looking guns at the counter and that alone will make sales.

Jordan Parker

An interesting option for sure. Too bad it didn't run 100% with some of the ammo... Reliability is my number one priority for an EDC pistol - it can be butt ugly, but if it's reliable and I shoot it well, it's a winner for me.

JARMYSTRONG

I don't mind a review that hits on Kimber a little, makes me feel better about my Springfield budget.

BadgerTails

About the size of a G36?

Brad Fegan

My very first thought was hmmm, not sure about this, stovepipes are going suck. Sure enough you had one with it. Side ejection makes me also think of a high-point.

Bluegill097

Jardine in the house! Nice. I wish PSA would make a mirco slimline

Plumber Angelo

Interesting gun, I like that kimber is trying to make new shit. Maybe this one missed the mark.

Great review. Always love the GRV POUs. Have a good weekend y’all.

Gotta admit that I've never been interested in Kimber, or several other gun mfg's btw, when their 'name' on the gun tacks on a 20-30% price hike when compared to the comp. Kimber always has some very purdy lookin' pistols for sure. The R7 Mako is something to look at if they smooth up the ejection and primer issues with a street $ of like $600 for the optic one.

Nutn, how could you possibly name this video "Funky Monkey" and not have Brass Monkey playing as the intro??? C'mon man! lol

Matt W Plank

Never had a Kimber I liked. I had a classic 1911, a sub-compact 9mm, and that Evo 9mm. They all sucked, for me. And, that is the point, we’re not magic for me. Nutn’ has spoke to this often. For example, I got an Sig p320 5 years after his initial review and it is absolutely magic, for ME…1.25 M.O.A at 15 yards. Personal preferences and a number of the “human factors” play into it. When I was a tennis professional, students would always ask me what racquet they should get? I would tell them, “I don’t know. I suggest trying 3-4 models I believed fit their game, but THEY shad to interface with it. This gun won’t be a shiny new object, for me.Thanks, Nutn’!

Shield Plus, thanks.

Racing Psychosis

Jardine! That's an interesting gun. But. Why have ambi controls when the spent brass is bouncing off of Jardine's thumbs. This should be a Right Hand only pistol. $750 is way too high. Hate proprietary rails. Nice looking sights, I like U-notches. I haven't gotten into the Kusiak Leather, I'm still a kydex guy, all my small carry pistols are in Knightfall Customs holsters. Not a fan of that CT red dot. Can't go back after shooting an ACSS red chevron. The Hellcat eats everything.

Porter3861

Great review Nutn! Thank you! And ditto on modern production pistols that don’t shoot steel cased ammo. Both of my XD’s regularly choked on the Russian ammo and I moved them on. I just don’t want them in the stable. Did you shoot steel cased in the Hellcat? Please keep up the good work.

Is Kimber taking design cues from Hi-Point?

Harddog

Nutnfancy, put a Wilson Combat grip module on the 365 and its then perfect!

DudeDudeDude

I have not been too impressed with Kimbers with the exception of their revolvers which were surprisingly spectacular.
