Content

This will be another touchstone video in the TNP Motorcycle Adventure, core content for well over a decade now! Sean the TNPr and I team up in the garage for some insight on how we stay comfortable during long, cold, sometimes wet motorcycle rides. The emphasis will be on safety as always as discuss evaluating road conditions, experience levels, and equipment.

We'll lay down a philosophical foundation as in all Nutnfancy System videos and then get to work on the specifics. Video from 7 hard drives is pulled for overlaying the discussion representing my Moto adventures here since 2013!

By watching this video and buying smart, you should be A OK for Moto cold weather riding. They are some of our favorite rides.

Awesome. I'm hoping to take the MSF course in April and start riding. Probably gonna start off with a cheap beater off Facebook. Wanna make sure it has abs.

I've never riden before but I still enjoy watching and supporting the moto videos.

I love the adventure videos… really AWESOME!

Keep the moto content rolling! I really appreciate insights from more advanced riders than myself, including you and Sean. Thank you!

when I went to france in december, they motorcycle there all winter. BTW those guys are extreme riders. very experienced around cars and traffic. but they use the grip covers and they use a snap on cover that fits on the bike that covers your feet and legs, think blanket at a football game LOL. but that snap on cover they run takes all the wind off their legs and feet.

Wow, what a great video. That's great you guys ride all year round. When my brother Mark and I were kids delivering newspapers in the cold winters in Maine, we rode our 10-speed bikes on icy and snowy roads without crashing. Much respect to you. Your focus on comfort and safety is top notch. The quality cycling gear and hi-vis colors make a big difference for sure.

I've done cool weather kart racing before, those first few laps are sketchy. That would be around 40F. If you have a sore knee, its fresh air icing the knee. Although lately with the super mild winter we are having the tracks are opening up here in February for the 50+F days. I Don't recommend winter motorcycle riding in the Rust Belt if you like your chrome or polished aluminum because of the de-icers that they use around here. I see guys that do it on some pretty crappy looking bikes, that they likely don't care about the appearance of. The brines that they around here are horrible.

Temperature for me is a secondary consideration. My primary is precipitation. Rain/snow and I'm out. Don't use heated gear or grips. Hippo hands, snowmobile gloves, and layering do it for me. Seems like anytime you leave for a ride it's 50 when you finally get home it's 30. I have a gear backpack that I kit out for the season I'm riding in. I grab it and a helmet every ride.

Ah yes more Moto content. I typically ride year round in NH, off road and commuting when warm and as soon as ice hits off road is basically off the table. Because of the salt and sand they treat roads with here, it gets super sketchy in winter. Nothing worse than being leaned over in a turn and hit a patch of sand or rock salt. I pull the bike out if we get a warmer 40 degree day after no snow for a while.

I like to ride during colder weather, anything above freezing. But when it’s cold out I have concerns that car drivers are not paying attention to expect a motorcycle on the road.
