- the movie takes place about 2 years before season 1. Watching it before makes sense chronologically. But it works just as well between seasons 1 and 2 or even between seasons 2 and 3 if we think of it as a 4-episode flashback. - this movie introduces 2 major characters from the Manga, Suguru Geto and Yuta Okkotsu, whom you will of course see again later. - your reference to Magneto and Charles Xavier is relevant when we think of Gojo and Geto, they are as close as Xavier and Magneto were, something very serious happened and their ideologies took an opposite turn. Opposite to the point that Geto, who saved humans almost his entire career as an exorcist, now sees them as "monkeys". Which made Geto an enemy of the exorcists when he was one of the very best of them. So Geto isn't a "Manichean villain." We've seen part of his past, but the most important thing remains to be discovered. He lost to Yuta, who only had 4 months of training. And we see him again in season 1 with a huge scar on his forehead and allied with (Hanami, Jogo, and Mahito). - As for Yuta, where was he during season 1? I won't spoil anything of course.

The movie came out after season 1, so for me that's where it makes the most sense to watch. If in doubt, I always go by release order, not in-universe chronological order. - That's a really fucked up way for a curse to be born. - I love how Panda is just Panda. He doesn't get an explanation. - Judging by the fact that this Yuta guy is nowhere to be seen in season 1, I'm gonna assume that he doesn't make it out of this movie alive. - I've heard of yandere but this is ridiculous. - Todo is not here so Panda has to take on that role or what? - Gojo can't supervise this job? Yeah, it's gonna go south. - Those curses look kinda fishy - Alright, that went surprisingly well. - They might have said something about Geto cursing a hundred people to death in season 1 but I honestly don't remember, this might be new information. - So that's how he operates. The first exorcism is free to get their trust. But then he probably goes and puts new curses on those people that he will only exorcise for a fee, eventually trapping them in a scam cycle. At least that's what it looks like to me. - BIRD UP - You know, on some level I admire Geto for being so open and honest about his intentions. Dude is evil to the core, he knows it and wants everyone else to know it too. - I love it when Panda goes ape. - For sure, Rika's curse is one that can get out of control VERY easily. - The most metal cursed speech ever. Just „Die.“ Enough said. Fuckin hell. - And there we have it. The reason we don't see Yuta anywhere in season 1. Self sacrifice. - Oh shit, he survived? - Bittersweet ending for Rika but this is probably the only way it could have ended. - But now I'm confused. Yuta is clearly still around. But we haven't seen him in season 1. Will he show up in season 2? Very good movie. And I think this was the right time to watch it, especially with them throwing in all those side characters without context. Having seen season 1, we at least know who they are.
