According to Google, "Knowing someone's exact birth year matters deeply in Korean culture because social hierarchy, " A person born within the same calendar year belongs to the same schoolyear and is considered an equal peer (chingu/friend). I guess they are just used to simply answering with their year of birth instead of their actual age 😂😂

I heard some time ago, that in Korea they use/used two methods of counting age. 1st is Korean (i think thats the name) metod. You gain 1 year at the begining of calendar year. 2nd is international. You gain 1 year at Your bithday. That's probably why when asked for age they answer with their birth year.
