Hi Olivio, thank you for your tips and tricks, very helpful. Just a note about something I discovered. The vector object is rasterised in some way, maybe along the same lines as the document DPI. Even if you copy these objects into Affinity Designer, they are still rasterised. I discovered this when I was creating some vector artwork in AP. In the end I had to re-do them in AD. I also seem to remember if you create objects in AD and copy/paste them into AP, they are also rasterised. I hope this helps somebody!

Thank you, Kevin. Really? I need to try that. That is sooooo odd! Why could that be the case? They are vector after all. I will experiment with them and write here what i find.

Thanks Olivio. I’ve been doing vector graphics in AD so long, I had forgotten that AP could do them. I’ll try what Kevin mentioned on my iPad.

Hello Folks. I just took a close look at AP ‘vector’ shapes. They are not actually vector graphics. If you zoom into anything produced by the shape tool or the pen tool, you can see that everything has pixelated edges (I never noticed this before). AP does not do vectors. Perhaps you should change the title of this tut ;-)

Hi Greg, they are still vectors, they are just displayed in a way that they are rendered to the resolution of the canvas. But you can resize them as much as you want and they will always be sharp (as much as the resolution of the canvas allows). Also you can turn any shape into curves - so they are not just pixels.

Hi Kevin, i tried what you suggested and when i copy the shapes from Photo to Designer, they are normal Vectors. Are you sure you didn't rasterize them before?

About the other way around from AD to AP: That's only how AP displays it, based on the pixel resolution of the canvas - it's still a real vector, but it's displayed in a way that makes it look like it's pixels.

Hi Olivio. OK. That kinda makes sense. I guess I was going by the definition I had based on AD, where the vector shapes have ‘infinite’ scalability without losing the sharp edge. It’s what they show you in AD classes on the first day “vector objects never lose their sharpness during magnification, while bitmap objects become pixelated”. I guess I thought that was a ‘test’.

Hi Olivio and Greg, thank you for checking out my discoveries. I had thought that the pixelated vectors in AP would cause a problem at larger scales. Like Greg, I was of the view that vectors are sharp at no matter what scale. I just wasn't used to seeing pixelated vectors! I double checked copying AP vectors into AD and they are fine. I must have rasterised the object at some point before moving it to AD.

Hi Kevin, thank you for confirming that. :) It's still kind of strange and confusing that they would choose to display them that way.
