Heyho! Even when you're only doing super little and that super slowly ... I guess at some point a chapter will still be done nonetheless. So I hope you are happy about this surprise completion of chapter 8. I don't know yet what will happen to anything after this, as I'm only thinking in small chunks, so pls don't expect anything else soon, but at least we have this one done~

Sweet! Don’t worry too much and take care of yourself 👏👍👌

Small chunks is better than trying to force yourself to complete a project and struggling mentally. Please take care of yourself.

Zella B

What a wonderful surprise today! I’m happy that you are taking things at your own pace and hopefully not putting pressure on yourself. I hope you are doing better and keep focusing on taking care of yourself. 💜

Aria Marli

omg hiiiii✨ i’m so happy for you! don’t force yourself and only do what you can! your mentality matters more than those who “want” more art 🩵

ac1d_TigR

This is a nice surprise! Edit: What a great chapter. I thoroughly enjoyed the look into Reuben's past and his character. And Carter's well-meaning input

Brendon Bradley

Take care of yourself. Do what you can when you can. We'll still be here 💜

The joy I felt when I got the e-mail notification! No worries though, I (re)subscribed expecting absolutely nothing. All I want is to support an artist I have a lot of respect for. Take care of yourself first and foremost. As much as I love your art, it's not worth sacrificing your health for. 🦖💚

JH

Thank you! Take care of yourself! I think the stories you are telling are important and need to be told.

I was so happy to see this pop up in my notifications! It’s genuinely insane to me how much I relate to Rueben’s character (in a good way!). In the present day of the comic we know Rueben is good—great even—at what he does with hockey. But it’s not talent. It’s hard work, perseverance, dedication, and failing over and over again until the good habits start to form and you can see your progress compared to what you were at before. The full spread at the end of this chapter was beautiful and I’m so proud of him. All the characters in this story are amazing, but Rueben will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you so much for this update!! I’m more than willing to wait longer and longer for the next chapter/update. This story and world you create is completely worth the wait.

Irid3scence

Glad you and Crush3d are back! Even if you're taking it slowly, its still great that you're working on it at all— take care of yourself, okay? ☺️

ac1d_TigR

Lmao him requesting the harsh truth and then feeling hurt by it is so relatable

Noah R.

Little pieces of work are still work, and the amount of care and effort you put in shows in these beautiful pages! Thank you for sharing them with us, and I hope you are doing well.

Juni B. Joons

I love Reuben's story line. it's always my favorite one to read.

ChocolateRevel

Wowww I love this so much. You portray this type of abuser so well, and seeing the parts where his dad flips between being nice to being awful is so realistic to how people like that can be. And I relate so much to Reuben’s way of thinking and talking about things, and Carter’s anxiety. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous and dynamic, and the texture and colours are so beautiful. I’m always so blown away by Crushed pages. Honestly, working on it in small chunks as you go along like that sounds perfect. I’m happy to wait whenever it’s ready and for you to go at the pace that works best for you and your wellbeing. This was such an amazing surprise. I’m really happy now. It felt like a gift. Thank you so much for your beautiful art and storytelling 💜

Jamie

You can’t believe how much this made my fu*king day 10/10

Natalie

Omg!!!!!! I was so shocked and excited when I got the notification!

Bacon

I love your art style so much

新港 貞享

I got this notification an hour late?? Anyway, I'm happy to see you're well enough to draw again. Even if it's just a bit. Either way, just take your time.

HoneyPotatoe

Bro I fucking love Reuben, I'm gonna cry now

HoneyPotatoe

Thank you author, so grateful for the update 🙇

Receiving all of this was a nice surprise! I love reading your comic. Please take care of yourself and work at the pace you like; we wouldn't have the comic at all if it weren't for you :) About the chapter: -Reuben's childhood is very saddening to see. A detail I like is that Reuben's parents are depicted as caring as well as violent/neglectful. Most abusers don't act badly all the time, they can be normal and loving yet abusive in another moment. In that sense, it's an (unfortunately) realistic family dynamic. Hard to understand and navigate, especially for Reuben that already can't read people too well. -I'm guessing that his learning journey is part of the reason he's so disciplined when he's older. He didn't start out with talent, he built it by training a lot and very often. He's used to working hard for what he wants. He also feels comforted by routines and regularity. -Carter was gonna ask why Reuben didn't get tested for a disability, then got offended because he thought Reuben was saying that was something Carter wouldn't understand? (At least I hope I'm reading that part right.) Carter's emotional reaction makes sense considering he has a lot of pain that hasn't seen the surface and he wouldn't like people assuming that he's lived a hardship-free life, even if he doesn't realise the full extent of his trauma. -Also, nice detail that Carter's mind immediately jumped to sexual assault while the thought didn't even strike Reuben. Shows what kind of abuse they've both been through :') -Colouring is really beautiful. I've always thought your comic looked great, but lately it seems to have improved even more?? Hope my thoughts are coherent and that the English is alright.

I love this comic so much. The art is always amazing, the coloring is perfect, the characters feel so REAL I'm almost embarrassed like I'm invading their privacy by looking at them. Thank you so much for giving this to us. I hope you get better, even if bit by bit in small steps. ❤️

I love Reuben so much, and his story is so important to me. The confusion of being hurt by one parent, and the other not defending you, or even making excuses for them, or saying you could try harder. The desire to be anywhere but home, learning the best ways to hide and avoid them, because that's your best option. The portrayal of his dad especially, where he can both love his son and abuse him. It's a nuance I don’t always get to see represented. It's so confusing when someone says they care about you and then hurts you, but lot of media portrays abusers as black and white, purely evil villains. That isn't reality for most victims, and it certainly wasn't for me. It reminds me of Fences or Ladybird, especially how you draw attention to the impact that race and culture and socioeconomic status has on families. Unlike those stories, though, you don't force your characters to forgive their abusers. You let them be bitter, and I appreciate that a lot. Gah, I'm just really happy to see this chapter finished. I'm most happy to see you're still drawing, though. Even small chunks are huge, hold onto those moments of progress/stability as proof you are capable of healing, proof that you can be okay. 💛

mady briscoe

My boyfriend just made me read this comic as of recently hes been here since chapter two WE ARE SO EXCITED!!!!

mady briscoe

THANK YOU SO MUCH i hope your doing well with your mental heath and taking care of yourself!! ❤️

Rosa Maus

Omg, what a surprise! ✨🤩so nice to read CRUSH3D again! 😭 the topic was harsh, but the scene in which Reuben started crying like the actual little kid he was, after his coach told him about his ankle stiffness was sooooo funny and cute. ❤️😭 what a strange little boy he was!

F. Casanova

Thank you very much for your effort! I can't imagine how hard it has been. This part of the story is delightful, as always <3

I hope things are improving for you Yaa. Its always nice to hear from you. Corporal punishment is quite common where I'm from, especially older generations and you depicted it quite believably. Tbh it is a bit confusing to me how his parents both have dark brown eyes and no European ancestry and he has really bright blue eyes? Inuits and sub-saharan Africans universally carry brown eye alleles. Like it seems impossible to me realistically but its a comic so anything can happen I guess...XD

I did not go into a super deep dive about eye colors, but I saw that blue eyes can happen in non-Caucasian bloodlines as well as it is originally a mutation. That they are genetically recessive means that many generations can carry the information without it ever showing in the phenotype, until it suddenly does when the two parents bring it together. So it’s a possible but still freak occurrence and also supposed to be one in the comic XD . Reuben‘s dad himself is always unnerved by his sons blue eyes XD.

Was eine schöne Überraschung! Ich wünsche dir weiterhin alles Gute und freue mich <3

Thanks for updates! I am curious because in your last post you said you were going to hospital for a few months and then might look for a day job. I was in a similair situation as you a while ago so I could heavily empathize 🥺 But getting a day job was really helpful for me and I lucked out with wonderful coworkers and atmosphere so I recommend it and hope you luck out too. Hope to also see continuation of Java bonds some day. But its important for you to do what makes you happy even if you decide not to draw any comics ever again I support you fully!❤️

Cecily Art

Waaah, this is so cool! Such a long update 😍 Thank you for feeding us so well! Also the topic must have been hard to tackle, you did so well! All of the nuances and ambiguity Reuben expresses seem so realistic. Great job! As grateful as I am to read that many pages, take your time to rest as much as you need before taking on the next chapter, I honestly mean that.

pollo papi grande

The chapter is amazing, i hope you dont beat yourself up so hard because the comic youve created is amazing quality and has touched so many lives, including mine. I relate to parts of carter, scott, and reubens story. i see myself in the story you created and that experience is so valuable to me. I always so appreciate the way that you handle tough topics like these in your story because these are real things that happen to real people and no one wants to talk about it, but seeing these characters talk about and deal with that same things that i deal with but cant talk about helps me. Dont be disappointed in yourself, be proud, because your story is one of the best comics out there :)))

Lethal Butterfly

I'm so glad you're okay! At least I hope you're as okay as you can be. Gosh, I sure do adore Ruben. The more I learn about him they more I fall in love with the character, and the way you've implemented him in the story is perfect! I still tell my friends about the brilliance of his introduction being so completely reflavored by the context of his later characterization, in a way that absolutely gives the comic re-read value.

Rn I’m inbetween two hospital stays, the first did not work out so I’m currently home, but the next (hopefully? Long) one is starting super soon, so it didn’t make sense to announce „I’m back home“!

Susanna Lavea

Wooow what an amazing chapter thank you!!! The story is so wel written, each characteristics with a great deep background and hell... I love how carter is able to comunicate with reuben... It's really a ND kinda thing, understanding each other weirdness and being able to just be direct.... so precious 💕

Aniratac

I think we’re all willing to wait as long as we need to for this story <3 That being said Do you ever plan on putting the other volumes out for print? Cause I have the first and I would love to have the others in print as well Thanks for considering <3

Blueberry

Id be willing to get a tape every 10 years! take all the time necesarry and more. Now off topic: I was on my 5th reread of CRUSH3D!! when i saw this and i can't believe it took me so long to realize Reuben is most definitely autistic.

Char

Thank you 🙏

gawd damn

Crying rn, that was an amazing chapter. I hope you're ok and I have to say I, like many others, would be willing to wait years for a next chapter. But even if that never happens reading your work was still totally worth it!

A Tomlinson

Hope you are doing ok! Thank you for updating CRUSH3D it's one of my favorite webtoons I love hockey and the story is awesome thank you

Tabata

What a wonderful Chapter, I really like Reuben as a character so so much! But with that said, please take your time with this comic, don't overwork or force yourself to draw for us, just getting one page or a scetch once in a blue moon would be enough of a blessing for us. Your health comes first, we will be here until next time❤️

Lucía Villalobos

Did this take time to make it visible for nonpaying patreons?
