Hello everybunny!
Today we have an interesting post for you. We'll review and show how to use a special presser foot for your sewing machine ^^
As instroduction, you may know that in some classes and sewing instructions we've shown that we sew a ribbon over seams that attatch different body parts together. Seams on stretchy fabric can stretch and deform, and the ribbon avoids that. For example, we add this ribbon wen we sew a head to the body with the sewing machine. We came up with this technique while thinking how to avoid seams stretching and later discovered that it's actually used in many mass produced plushies.
It's a very good technique for plushies, no doubt. Specially for plushies made with mochi fabric, which is veeeery stretchy. But the method we used to sew this ribbon was rudimentary. We used the default presser foot, sewed the seam regularly and then sewed over it adding the ribbon manually. But this way, the ribbon moves around easily and the seams con't turn out very straight.
And now that we released Gomamon where we used this technique, a few weeks ago a couple patrons on the discord server were discussing how factories sew this ribbon directly, without sewing regularly first like we do. We thought they used a special machine or expensive accessory out of our budget. But after some research, a patron found out that there's a special presser foot for it! Presser foots usually have an universal size and work on almost any domestic sewing machine.
It's called "Lace presser foot", and we didn't hesitate to get one and try it out when we discovered it.
And today is the day. We've put it on the sewing machine and did a couple tests with both minky and mochi. The results were great! You can still sew the ribbon without it, with more patience (just like we did until now), but this presser foot keeps the ribbon in place which results in a more stable seam. You can be sure that the ribbon won't move around while you sew ^^ Also, it's not an expensive accessory, we found several that ranged between 4 and 8 euros on Amazon, and you will probably find them in most sewing machine stores as well.
Here's a video review showing the presser foot from close and how we use it, so you know how to use it too :D You can also see the difference in the seam's stretchyness without and with the ribbon.
We think it was a great discovery! It will make sewing mochi plushies easier for sure ❤
We hope you find this review useful. And if you liked it, we will try to show more techniques and tools to help you in the future!

Hello everybunny!
