David & Felix plush WIP 4: Designing the printed fabric (Patreon)

ENGLISH/ESPAÑOL
It's about time you see how we designed the clothes for this commission. After discussing it, we decided to try new materials and a new finishind; custom printed fabric, designed by orselves!
If you remember, we already used printed fabric for Lucas' rope snake. But it was a premade design on the store. We had never made something like this and it was hard to learn how to make it. There were a lot of things to have in mind. The image resolution, where each detail would be placed, the size of the fabric, reference marks so we could trace the patterns on the wrong side of the fabric. that wouldn't be visible when sewn... Plus digitalizing and drawing the details of each patern. Luckily, the references the customer gave us were more than enough and made it easier for us.
Since we're really happy with the result, we'll talk more about each design:First we have the shoes, which were one of the most difficult pieces to imagine in a 2D pattern, but we managed to get a cool design. Then we have the neck and cuffs of David's jacket. Since there isn't a cuff fabric with such small knits, we decided to draw the lines ourselves and print them on the T-shirt fabric. The jeans had slightly different colours, and Felix's were ripped so we had to add the effect. We thought on ripping them ourselves but finally declined the idea to avoid future problems with the fabric. In the bottom part, there are David's sweatshirt and Felix's varsity jacket. We're proud of the designs. We'd like the pockets to be real ones but they were too small. Then we have David's jacket, with all the alien patches, and the drawn zipper that will have a felt ziplock. Finally there's Felix's T-shirt, which doesn't have much more than the star. We were afraid to order all that custom printed fabric without any previous attempt. Our biggest fear was that the colours changed too much and to loose image quality.
And last but not least; deciding which fabrics use for each piece of clothing. We printed each piece on a different fabric to have a more realistic look. Felix's T-shirt will be cotton knit, while David's jacket will be a waterproof fabric. This means that all the designs will be printed separatedly. It's more expensive, but at the same time it will look way better.
Our only concern with this part was using fabrics that fitted the plushie's size. For example, we couldn't use denim fabric for the jeans because it was too thick. Instead, we used a similar looking cotton twill, which was thinner but still gave a denim effect.
