ENGLISH/ESPAÑOL

Today we have a bitter story that will give us extra work we didn't expect to have. Although it's an experience that will make us learn to not work with companies under certain conditions in the future.

If you remember, time ago we made the prototype plushies for the Sword of the Necromancer game. At first, we were going to make the plushies for the game's kickstarter, and we agreed that they would only sell 60 of them and that we would have a full year to make them.

Due to the inexperience of the gamedevs that launched the Kickstarter, they didn't limit the plush add-ons and they ended up selling 120 plushies.Since it was double of the agreed work, we told the company that we couldn't accept so much work, so they either cancelled some plushies or at least they gave us double the time to make them. We dind't really want to make 120 plushies, it's a lot of work and exhausting, and we have commissions and other stuff to work on. They told us that it was impossible to give us more time, that they had to meet deadlines, which we understood, but we simply couldn't accept it. It was phisically impossible for the two of us to make double the work in the same time. So at the end, the company decided to have the plushies mass produced by a factory. They copied our prototypes, we actually sent them to the factory so they could use the patterns embroideries, etc.

After over half a year, Grimorio contacted us telling us they were having issues with the factory, that they didn't make the plushies quite right, and there was no way for them to make the hairstyles right. Honestly, they showed us pictures of the prototypes and they were terrible, the fringe badly placed, all wrinkled...So they asked us, since at first we were going to make the plushies, if we could add the hair and give them an overall look before shipping the plushies to the backers. Making 120 hairs is a lot of work, but we wanted to help them, so we accepted.

Today we received the plushies. And we can only say that it's a job made with no care at all. The plushies arrived all crammed in boxes, with the stuffing deformed, thread remnants over them and more. 90% of the plushies have too much stuffing or badly distributed, so they need to be emptied and re stuffed. 50% need some kind of fixing like some hand sewing to correct the pose and such... And the 20% is simply trash because they have defects impossible to repair, like embroidery issues, badly sewn clothes, holes in the fabric... Luckily, they ordered more plushies than needed (they ordered 200 and only sold 120) to have some error margin.

The thing is that we can't just deliver the plushies how they are right now, and the factory that made them is currently closed due to covid, so they don't answer the messages. So the devs have asked us to try to fix the plushies as much as we can, paying us some extra. We don't really need to do it, because at the end these aren't our plushies and this was all caused because they sold more than what was agreed. But, honestly, we will feel guilty if we give away plushies in such bad conditions, since they contacted us first. Plus many people backed the project on the plushie tier thinking they would have a minimun quality. And we also don't want that a small indie game company that only wanted to have some cool plushies for their Kickstarter have such a bad product.

In conclusion, we have many hours and days of work to invest on fixing and finishing these plushies. Don't worry, your commissions are the most important thing for us so we won't put them aside. We've talked to the devs and told them that we will make the plushies little by little while working on our personal work, and they also gave us more time to make them since the plushies arrived worse than they looked like in the factory prototype photos.

Even if we have more time, this may delay our work a bit, because it's more work than we expected we'd have when we accepted their petition. We won't allow this to delay our work too much because we have more time to fix the plushies and we will give preference to our commissions. But we understand that there may be someone that don't want to wait even more for their plush because of this mishap. If that's the case, they can talk to us without problems and we will refund them the money of their plush. But we hope you understand that we didn't expect this project to give us so many troubles. And of course, that we always want to give the best out of ourselves.

So, well, here are some photos of the plushies we received. We will probably make some posts during the next months showing how we fix them. The "mistakes" with plushies are...incredible

As a final advice, be careful whenever you make a collab with other people or companies, and put extra emphasis on making your limits clear. Also, well, be careful when you have something mass produced, because you can receive low quality goods.

On another subject, yesterday we finished all the Applins we were making, so we will try to post a pic of all of them tomorrow so you can see how they turned out!

Big hugs to everybunny

Oh god they look terrible ... I feel sorry for the people who backed them hoping for a nice plush >.< ... You are making an awesome job even though you shouldn't be the ones doing it. You are really good people <3

Demodèx Plush

Oh God, that's a lot of mistakes 😓 I'm so sorry, why working with companies always creates so much troubles?

Zee

Thanks for sharing this, it's very interesting. The one plush that has a hole in it was a bit of a shock. The care and dedication that the two of you put into your work always amazes me.

Crafty-Scrafty

Oh man, at least they accounted for a large margin of error? Though maybe next time if the choice is between limiting the amount of handmade plush and working with a mass producer they will think twice.... It's very nice of you guys to pick the project up and salvage the plush though! Hopefully there are enough decent ones from the batch that are salvageable to not make too much trouble for you! I can't help but wonder if they ordered a sample from the factory before placing the large order? And then to make things worse the factory is closed, ahh.. Anyway. Lots of luck, you guys always impress me, I hope you don't overwork yourselves!!

WingedMortality

This is such a daunting task! 😬 It'll be interesting to follow along and see comparison photos of what you end up on fixing for all of them, but very time consuming. I hope they don't end up testing too much of your patience. You guys are incredibly too sweet to do all that you can to support them though, even when it means putting you guys behind your work. ❤ The amount of passion you put into everything you do is always incredible.
