The Center is emotionally freaked out about Trump, but not willing to recognize the full danger of the global-authrotarian moment we are living in. Trump, does not exist in isolation, authoritarian leaders are at the helm from India, to Turkey to the United States. The Left has to fight a two front battle against the dying neoliberal order and the New Right. Capital will move in between technocratic order and the authoritarian tendency. The reason, we need to do smart critiques of the neoliberal order is because we need the right framework to take on the global danger. Time to get less freaked out and focused on the full picture.

The LARB Super Ego article linked last in the above list leads to an interesting assessment offered in line with many of the "Third Way" ideas mentioned in Michael's recent August 3rd idea primer episode. Great well written counter views with other good points on the article also follow after in the site's comments section below it. Any chance on there being a guest in a future show offering the non-libertarian more pragmatic leftist rationale for having supported 3rd Way ideas? Maybe it's more a matter of constantly working to temper, pressure and transition neoliberalism into more socialist policies as Michael mentioned was happening with Obama. Things were continuing to trend that way, but now in the face of accelerating Trump enabled con man fascism, just stopping the onslaught from enabling total militarized oppression requires welcoming efforts from any interested parties willing and able to help in preventing any further fascist momentum. Also, the same article mentioning conspiracy theorist Louise Mensch makes for a pretty weak straw man that doesn't discount the serious gravity of Trump's crooked business ties to fascist Russian interests and his constant concern with the Mueller investigation.
