Remember those scholarly articles, from the 1990s, about applying game theory to voting behavior? Academics were scrambling to make sense of how someone like Ross Perot could win 19% of the vote in ‘92, and it went something like: Voters are rational and have ordered preferences. Normally, a voter’s ordering of the candidates would be something like A>B>C. Therefore, the voter would prefer A over C. However, there is a subjective component to selecting — or a lack of a significant difference between — candidates, which can lead to what appears irrational. If A is preferred to B because of economic policies. B is preferred over C because of foreign policies. But C’s economic policies are only slightly different from A’s, while B’s economic policies become unfathomable during a peacetime election. Then, C may later be preferred over A due to his/her views on — or their experience with — foreign policy. Afterwards, the voter “calculates” the difference between A and C on economic and foreign policies, the likelihood that their vote will be needed for either candidate to defeat B, and lastly, the amount of uncertainty they have regarding their preferred candidates’ policy preferences. Eventually, they realize that they prefer Perot over Clinton, and Clinton over Bush. But these voters realized that supporting Perot led to a surge of Republican voters moving towards the Independent Candidate. As such, voting for Perot — dependent on their state obviously — benefited both of their “preferred candidates” directly. They had very little uncertainty about Bush’s policies, but hated his economic policies which outweighed his strengths in foreign policy after the Cold War. So, B lost and academics turned to the streamlining of primaries in all 50 states — in order to solve this “third party problem” and give everyone a chance to vote for their for their most preferred candidates before the general election. Jimmy Dore and his followers don’t fit that framework whatsoever. There’s no way that they preferred Trump over Clinton policy-wise — unless they actually did and are being disingenuous with themselves and the left — nor did voting for Jill Stein benefit Clinton as their 2nd most preferred candidate. Considering that the uncertainty with Trump was low... Meaning we all fucking knew he hated Hispanics, Muslims, and all other non-white immigrants. We also knew his economic policies ran contrary to every tenet of a rebalanced economy — with Socialism — by redistributing wealth towards the bottom. And we knew he had right-wing authoritarian impulses very early on... Moral of the story: Jimmy Dore doesn’t get to act as if he were the “rational one” when he specifically chose the candidate that brought about the lowest probability of us implementing a socialist reengineering of American domestic-and-global capitalism, in the near future. He also can’t act that way when it was clear that the guy would kill more innocent civilians, jail more American citizens in private prisons, and deport more productive immigrants than that “neoliberal” Hillary Clinton who rigged the primaries. They protest against the DNC’s treatment of Bernie Sanders, but are largely silent about the wall, Dreamers, and the increase in military spending within the Budget. Oh, I get it! They are irrational since they’re incapable of moving away from abstract values and desires, towards practical realities — with consequences — since they’re probably within the most privileged segment of society. I honestly don’t think that their decision-making and critical-thinking capabilities are in sync with democratic processes. In that way, they aren’t very different from that immovable Trump bloc. They’re simply less inclined to point the finger at the poor and marginalized. Seriously, that’s the only difference between those two groups.

Seriously, Stalin? He's the Hilary Clinton of the Cold War. Everyone knows Trotsky would have won!
