Douglas Lain (@DougLain) joins TMBS this week to discuss Marx's 'Critique of the Gotha Programme' and how it can inform the left's approach to the capitalist state and organizing under capital.

Appreciate the spirit, point, and effort; but this was less good. I know it’s super hard to strike a balance between those who haven’t read anything and those who have (believe me, I’m a teacher). But the show is SO much stronger when you have people speaking from points of experience and expertise. No offense to Zero, which is of course great, but DL is no expert on Marx. Why not get him to speak about what publishing is all about on the left now? That would be so much more informative than limping through a latter-day appreciation of the elderly Marx’s predilections.

TMBS

John, Doug actually is a very serious reader and analyst of Marx and the discussion was not a look back at an old essay but something with potential major implications for how we can conceive of a social democratic project today. Sorry if it didn't come through for you but the purpose and expert were on target. Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you for responding. As far as taking your larger point, I get it and appreciate it. We just don’t agree on some particulars. Won’t stop me listening, though, and keep up the good work!

TMBS

Seriously thanks for the feedback! I'm always eager to read and hear it. Thanks man!

Read the Dispossessed, already. I promise that it’s worth the time.

“For my FB friends only: Bootleg link to my Patreon subscription to ‘The Michael Brooks Show’. This episode is an interview with Douglas Lain, publisher of Zero Books and Sci-Fi novelist. Both are neo-Marxist strategic thinkers and champagne socialists. They do a deep annotation of a monogram written by Marx in 1870 that is remarkably applicable to current day liberal/Left political projects. {Yo fam, I’m such a nerd that I pay cash money for this content!}”

Any chance this one can go public, really want to post it as a must listen for the local DSA chapter
