Psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan was a thinker who has had significant influence on radical philosophy and political movements. His famous claim that the "the unconscious is structured by a language" influenced many to investigate our own, often contradictory, understanding of the subject.
In this video, a young situationist interrupts one of Lacan's popular lectures and challenges the psychoanalyst's role in giving people "justification for their miserable lives." The full lecture can be found here.
It is worthwhile to work through Lacan's challenge to the radical student protests in 1968, "As revolutionaries, what you long for is a master," he warned, "You’ll get one."
