For this week's theory video I've selected a video lecture by Tariq Ali. Looking back at the decade following the financial crisis it is clear that capitalism and its alternatives are now on the table. But crisis is not a program, and the developments in left-wing politics over the past decade must be examined from a materialist lens. In this video, Tariq Ali breaks down the various left-formations that have developed over the past decade and analyzes their tendencies, prospects, and the conditions that lead to their growth.

Tariq Ali is a titan of the Left. He is the author of countless books on history and capitalism, an editor of the New Left Review, and a frequent commentator on politics. Politically active throughout his entire life Tariq Ali has been an indispensable voice on the left throughout some of its most challenging decades.
