Bill Fletcher Jr. (@BillFletcherJr) joins us once again to discuss the midterm victories for the left as well as what the midterms tell us about the durability of the GOP's nationalistic base. Why Bill talks about "emancipatory politics" and not "identity politics." Trump's core support is ultimately interested in annihilation. Why some, even on the left, need to get a better understanding of the democratic party as a diverse collection of coalition blocs.

Bill Fletcher, Jr. said what many of has have been thinking for a while. That is, the Right, I call them Nazis, want to "annihilate us" and establish a theocracy so we will be condemned to hell. We need to proceed with our progressive (socialist) agenda with that in mind and act accordingly. Given the current Trump administration, nothing should be off the table, cause nothing is off the table for them.

Whoa there Greg. Absolutely some things are off the table (violence, lies, hypocrisy, corruption) but I think I know what you mean. Here are my quick thoughts: The left has to destroy and annihilate the whole conservative movement --- not by political warfare so much as by rendering them utterly irrelevant to the lives of a majority of ordinary people --- but that'll never happen unless the left seizes power ruthlessly and refuses to compromise on supporting the poor and working class. The Orange King was telling the truth about one thing over the last week: he mentioned the Republicans are much better at playing dirty (and I think by implication playing violently) than the left, and so violence, corruption and unethical politics will never be the path for a winning leftist movement --- we can't turn up to a nuclear war with machine guns. Good ordinary folks are the base for the left of that vast "coalition bloc" and that is one heck of a source of power. It has to be wielded though like the frickin hammer of Thor. If you champion the working class they will champion you and lay waste to the conservatives and neoliberals. I'd say though that if the takeover of the Democratic Party by Progressives does not eventuate soon then something more radical will be needed, a broad based non-ideologically driven third party, not a narrow interest party like the Greens, but a self-admitted hodge podge of the left, socialists, anarchists, communists, greens and progressives, no brand finessing, just a genuine coalition of many coloured people. (Along the lines of what Nick Bana is organising.) But with one particular group rejected and spat out --- the neoliberals --- they cannot be allowed back to the genuine left, they had their time, and they fucked up the whole world, and did it a hell of a lot more effectively and heartlessly than conservatives. If the neoliberals continue to dominate the Democratic Party then the genuine left has to splinter and say goodbye. That's not a prediction, it is just my advice to US lefties. In addition to all this, basically, I think we are slowly seeing the end of capitalism as we know it (but horribly slow to die... might take another few decades?), but also a much more interesting end times, the end times of political party machines devoted to one ideology.

Why do you intentionally misrepresent the midwest's choice between the two scams they had to choose between as them "finally" seeing through the Trump scam ? You really are blind to how everyone would have fallen back asleep and ignored the corporate fascism of the democratic party if Clinton had won. The fact you cannot see that in the end Goldman Sachs took back the white house from CITIbank, and that Cheeto has exposed the (not so)elite for being more like Cheeto than they care to admit has been one of the most educational moments for our electorate in modern history. The elites hate Trump because they see themselves in him in a very unvarnished and unpolished form. He blows their cover....... Nothing will ever come from the democratic party, the action is in the street. Until there is massive and sustained non violent civil disobedience in the street your "top down" solution will be continually bought out, co-opted, or hi-jacked by the corporate fascist billionaire elites. When will you finally see through the fake left/right scam ?

Seems like there are lot of people who would rather burn the country down than evolve. And they have a lot of matches (guns). The assumption here is that people who aren't rational, can be dealt with. They can't.
