For this week's theory video, I've selected a lecture by academic and activist Brian Jones on the legacy of Karl Marx and the Civil War. Marx's work as a journalist provides us with an interesting and often neglected expression of his thought, particularly in relation to American society. In this lecture, Jones works through Marx's writings to deliver an understanding of Marx's thoughts on race, racism, and the Civil War.

Brian is great. Really wonderful comrade formerly of MORE (reform caucus within the UFT), now working at the Schomburg in Harlem. Reminds me, I wanted to suggest 1) that y'all have Jane McAlevey on at some point and 2) you include some coverage on the LA teacher's strike kicking off this week. Easily one of the most important left struggles going on at the moment.
