I'm not sure I understand Edward Murrow's claim that "the line between investigating and persecuting is a very fine one". Isn't the point supposed to be that there is a very clear gulf between investigating and persecuting, but unscrupulous zealots bridge the gulf for nefarious means --- and in both directions making out that grey is white or presenting black as grey --- no better witnessed in recent times than when the investigation of Kavanaugh was made to to look like a persecution. In that case the GOP hardly even bothered bridging the gulf, they just stood on the investigation side along with everyone else and called it a persecution.
