Another superb heart-felt opening. What I've increasingly thought is that the social democracy movement needs to start PROMISING these benefits of universal programs and social justice, and not get too bogged down in debates about implementations, because the crises of permanent poverty, a permanent precariat, permanent war, are our reality, it seems ever more crucial to give people a justified hope. Working people are basically at war with the system but also pitted into competition against each other. Socialism worldwide needs to start projecting an alternative narrative and promising a brighter future. We know we can deliver on such promises when post-capitalism gets closer, because from the fairly conservative academics like Jeffrey Sachs to the more radical TZM the economic analysis shows we live in a world of abundance, and can afford to make the cut-backs which are environmentally and social harmful. Once people start believing in the promises socialism can deliver, and once there are small scale implementations, I think the tide of socialism will be unstoppable. But we have to start acting not only like we believe in the promises, but educating each other in knowing exactly why our beliefs are justified. I think there is far more room here for activism on the positive project side, rather than on the rather narrow limited side of critiquing capitalism and libertarian and paleo conservatism. But one reason a love TMBS is because the critique of neoliberalism and capitalism is done so irreverently and hilariously. I think that's the way to go, it keeps things positive, since we get so many laughs at the expense of the neolib capitalist elite. Less bitching and moaning and depressing anxiety and more lulz and ridicule of these amoral capitalist f___kers. Because of this, I think TMBS is going to grow a massive audience. The 1911 patreons at present seems a very low number, it will surely expand enormously once words spreads wider.

I hope Anna got her royalites for her prominence on the GiIlette commercial. That was cool whoever edited the video placing Anna as the first image from news media.

What about that "Aloha India" news anchor asking Gabbard, "As a soldier what do you think about use of torture..." I find that f___king depressing. WTF do I care about what a soldier thinks? They are among the most brainwashed professionals on the planet outside of stock market analysts, police/ICE, oil executives, and gang members. Why not just ask politicians, "As a <human being=""> [ or insert: mother, educator, socialist...] what do you think about..."

Just my HO, but I think Matt and Brooksy bend over too far even to speak of the "one in a trillion hypothetical scenario" where torture is warranted. Why even make the case that you would do a Jack Bauer if you knew the torture would extract the info needed to save millions? That's not a hypothetical you ever need to give to Gabbard or Harris. There is no way on Earth you would ever know the information extracted would (a) be correct and (b) actually allow you to save the world. Ergo, in the real world torture is never justified. There are always other ways to save lives, like preventing the root causes of terrorism in the first place, like dismantling all US hegemonic ambitions and pulling right out of US oil dollar superimperialism.
