Amílcar Cabral huh? Always pays to learn a few diacriticals. Tantalising illicit history in store thar'. But hey, Bill Fletcher, if you are going to tease Brooksy on pronunciation, you'd best learn your French. It's <neee-sh> not <nit-ch>, no matter what the f___king Miriam-Webster says. The word is French in origin, so the trailing "e" tells you "neeesh". Get with the program Yankees, respect the native languages.

I loved that clip of Winnie Byanyima owning the Yahoo! dick. DElicious. But I have to note that "going beyond taxes" is actually critical from a socialist perspective. In very nerdy leftie econ circles it is well known that redistributing wealth does nothing much to change the Pareto-type power law distributions, because chance market-driven effects alone are sufficient to cause exponential or power law distributions (which is Piketty type inequality as we know it) even with redistributive taxation. Even-handed tax regimes are thus not the sole economic policy committed socialists should want (see https://hrcak.srce.hr/file/114043) The only way Pareto-type inequality can be avoided systemically is if taxes are highly focused in redistribution onto the poorest people, i.e., not just used for deflation or funding universal programs. Taxes thus MUST be augmented by several other policies of a moral/spiritual economics, basically policies which manifest the higher aspects of humanity like kindness, love, honesty, compassion, unity, cooperation. So like truly objectively justifiable wage rate ratios (democracy of wages) and virtual abolition of non-productive and predatory financial activity like ... pretty much all rentier activity, and huge (I'd say 99%) tax on capital gains. If entrepreneurs need funding, they should apply to the government the same way most scientists have to (science [as opposed to engineering or "tech"] is typically not-for-profit because you have no frikin idea if your hypotheses will turn out true). And if there is a way to make all forms of capital gains which are parasitic on the real economy just disappear that'd be great too. De-commodify family housing as well, no one should be bidding in a market for a place to live. Such sets of policies MUST complement progressive taxation in order to reduce inequality and injustice. It's still not rocket science. You do not need nerdy econometric and complex agent-based econophysics models to guide you in how to run political economy along spiritual principles. (Such models would likely be corrosive on policy because they make for lazy uncritical thinking, because GIGO.) You just need spiritually compassionate democratically elected representatives.
