@4:55 C'mon guys. Lefties (even hard core marxists) need to get to grips with MMT if only to answer "how can we pay for it?" There is, and always has been, only one answer to that for anyone controlling a fiat sovereign currency, which is: we can pay for [goddamn] anything or any service we like, provided the resources exist to produce it or serve it up, and provided we are not diverting resources from something more vital. It's NOT about the Benjamin's baby. For a sovereign government it is never about the Benjamins. Learn some economics and fiscal monetary realism Ben. Then your logic will be even more powerful. If you start off conceding to the lunatic neoclassical that "taxes pay for things" you have already lost half the debate. We cannot play that realpolitik game, the public consciousness desperately needs to understand taxes do not pay for sh*t. It is not naive to pretend people will be easily swayed by this reality, but it is worse than dishonest to play into conservative neoclassical econs hands. Once you give them "taxes pay for social programs" you might as well put a bullet in your head or head home and hibernate like a coward while the neolib apocalypse era proceeds.

In fact, taxes pay for our ability to spend more, since taxes (a) redistribute wealth (when non-regressive) and (b) keep a lid on inflation --- which allows more spending. Taxes also, (c) make the currency valuable. That's it. Taxes do nothing else. When this is acknowledged you start to see why wage taxes need to be abolished (because they serve no purpose) and capital gains and rentier F.I.R.E sector taxes are probably the only major taxes needed to achieve ends (a)--(c).
