Would be glad to see you have Emma on as often as possible. She's a perfect addition to both MR and now TMBS when she appears.

Nice call from Norway. I'd tell Daniel the key to securing social democracy is to stop equivocating, stop being pathetically economically illiterate, start learning real monetary economics and use the full power of the public purse: give everyone a living wage job guarantee, reduce unemployment to zero, make sure they are productive jobs, then on top provide free education and free healthcare with no insurance nonsense, but with oversight safeguards against fraud. Then you raise productivity and societal happiness and make it emotionally impossible for neoliberals and conservatives to gain any future foothold. Leftists fail (along with everyone else it seems) to see that government deficits are not Keynesian pump priming in recessions only, deficits are necessary ALL THE TIME, since if governments run surpluses they are shrinking the rest of the economy. Lefties have to not shirk their repsonsibility for massively raising deficit spending. Taxes are only needed to make the currency valuable and redistribute wealth, taxes are not needed to actually pay for government spending. Once lefties realize this they will be unstoppable. but while they continue to fear deficits they all be vulnerable to neoliberal hell. The Scandinavian social democrats have not yet woken up and realized what a government deficit actually means (it means private surplus). Once you realize this all conservative and neoliberal "fiscal responsibility" arguments vanish like the mirage they are.

How could Emma compare Lula to Jimmy Carter? Carter was distinctly anti-union and pro-capitalist. Carter was Third Way before Third Way was a thing. Lula is nothing of the sort. Only vague tonal similarity is that both leaders on the surface were anti-poverty and Lula is not overtly anti-capitalist, but unlike Carter, Lula is certainly not pro-capitalist exploitation. The fact that this is Emma's default mental impression of Lula da Silva is worrying, it suggests good psychological reason why most Democrat leaders are not speaking out in support of the Lula Livre movement, since they would be to the conservative right of Emma.
